If my ol dunger is back on the road by then, I might make the trip down to Rocky to say g'day.
  2. I'll be doing this job for the first time, within the next week. Fingers crossed! I'll post up any comments when I'm done.

Warren Skimmings was telling me that in racing circles, they were/are always after the 'star' from the original uni joints as they are the strongest. It would make sence with them being solid and the currently available ones having a hollow core for greasing purposes. I think he recommended the spicers uni joints.....I might be wrong. The one he ended up selling me was Federal (I think!).

Try Repco. Mind you there are some that are supposed to be better than others. Someone else can probably fill you in on that.

You might actually have some luck finding a facotry sump that fits as if I remember correctly, a few of the different cars the 2JZ's came in have a different sump position. Otherwise you can always go custom. Also, the exhaust is on the opposite side of the engine bay. Not a huge drama though. I can't say I've heard of the 2JZ swap being done before, but the 1JZ has been done a few times. Keep in mind the 2J is taller than the 1J as well. You'll want to spend some $ stengthening your shell too.

    Quite likely.

It's nothing special. Has three little dings, chome is still ok, just pretty dirty. The black rubber bits are cracked, but still there. Dunno that anyone would really want it. Would look ok though if I cleaned it up, straighten out those dings, and did something (?) about the rubber bits.

Yeah....I'm sure shipping wouldn't be too friendly.

Winning bid, $365. Far out. I think I'll be cleaning up my bumpers and chucking them on eBay.

Jebus! Currently at 307 farking dollars!

Agreed. I'm pretty torn between both sides here. So....when I am rich and stupid, I'll have both an imaculate, completely original 240Z and a modified zed or two. Now....better get onto that getting rich thing.

...hence a lot of the Ferrari GTO and Velo Rosa Spider replicas are built around zeds.

Have a look at the pipercross filters at www.sumidel.com They'd cuit your application well. I think ITG (?) have setups like that too. Other wise filtersocks will do the job.

Gotta see what it is first. I might have mucked up my calculations totally. Could just be a K box or something like that.

Probably not cheap from an upholsterer. I spoke to the guy up here in kelso about doing the boot and strut towers in my zed, and he was talking around the $500 mark. If you want, you can have whatever carpet is left in my parts zed. I just had a quick look and it appears all the passenger side is there, but some of the drivers side is missing. Come and have a look on the weekend and take it if you want it.

Cool cool. Ahh well, we'll see what it turns out to be. If it's worth something to someone then I'll sell it off. Otherwise it'll live behind my old motor in it's new home ....the basher ute!

g72s20: The ratios in my box sound sorta like yours too. I just sat down and worked out the approximate gear ratios going off the cars speed at a given rpm and my diff ratio (3.7:1). This is what I came up with. 3.5:1 2.1:1 1.3:1 1.15:1 1:1 Any ideas what this box would be? It'll be coming out within a month, so I'll be able to get any numbers stamped onto the box then. Judging by the speedo sender "thingy" still in the box, it came out of something with a tallish diff.....something in the low 3's. Oh yeah it's a bit shagged, but would anyone be interested in a short ratio box like this?

I could bet skimmo's zed aint the fastest in a straight line. But I'd say it'd probably be up there going around a track though.

Gotta say that spoilernet website is shithouse. But don't worry, warren does a roaring trade selling bodykits for all the V6 falcodores, excels and lancers around here. It's always funny when you walk into his shop, because most of what's in there is old school performance parts. But there's always these young guys and girls in there buying their plastic adenda. Bit of a contrast. MickieB: You have a PM
  22. Howdy. I'm in Townsville and have all of those bits on my parts car. Either leave me a message here, or give me a call any time after Thursday evening. I wont be available till then however, as I am very busy with exams. Justin Mob:0407891755

Hi MickieB! Where are you located? I'm a Townsvillian and deal with Warren quite a bit. He certainly has quite a wealth of knowledge on anything zed. Re his 240z. Off the top of my head, it runs a L24, bored to 2.5L, with a suck through carby turbo setup. It's making ~450HP (if I remember correctly....that's the ball park anyway) at 1.5bar boost. It's previously run a 11.8 over the 1/4 mile, and has plenty of quick laps at various tracks to its name. Last time I checked it still had the second fastest time at our local track. Don't quote me on those figures above btw....been a while since I saw the specs. I have a few pics of the car in my gallery if anyone wants to see it.

drunkenmaster: What sort of $ are we talking for sump no.2?
  25. Yeah bout that. I'm somewhat disapointed myself. Oh well.
