Where to get hatch seals at a reasonable price?
Thanks for all the replies guys. 2many: The shifter boot is non original and leaks quite a bit, so i'll have to get someone to have a good sniff of the air coming though it when the cars moving. Zedrally, flyer4100: Will give scotts a yell. Thanks. 1Bravo6: If scotts is still too much then I'll give the wreckers a whirl. As for that drain hole in the mudguard well, while I didn't notice one there, if it was there, I've sealed it up. I swear I have sealed up every bloody hole around the rear of this car from inside and out. Another big one was around the fuel filler and the over flow hoses. The two vent hose grommets are still good.

There were a few small gaps there that I sealed up. Both from inside and outside of the car.

Where to get hatch seals at a reasonable price?
I sealed around the tail lights with a non hardening sealant at the begining of the year and that almost eradicated the problem. Now that it's back on the road after 7 months off, the problem is back with a vengance. I spent hours a few weeks ago pulling the whole back end apart and sealing every bloody hole I could find. No difference. This avo I sealed all around the hatch from the outside with masking tape and it made a small difference, so I'm thinking I'll have to redo the tail lights again. Might just get the proper seals from nissan this time hey.

Where to get hatch seals at a reasonable price?
I was somewhat shocked when I got the prices from all z parts: Inner: $185 Outer top: $55 Outer sides: 2 x $22 Glass: $145 Total: $429 I seriously just don't have that sorta money, I can't spare any more body parts and I've already sold my soul. I'm slowly killing brain cells with exhaust fumes here so I do need to replace them.....so anyone know of any other places where I can get them at a reasonable price?

R32 R200 diff center -> 260Z R200?
Sweet.... Might just have to give it a try when my mates centre becomes available.

R32 R200 diff center -> 260Z R200?
Hey, it's free.... Can't argue with that.

R32 R200 diff center -> 260Z R200?
My mate is replacing the viscous LSD center in his R32 Skyline with a 2 way Cusco mechanical unit soon. So i was wondering if it's possible to use the viscous center in my R200? What would need to be modified to do it?

Looking at a zed tomorrow
For $500 it probably wouldn't be a bad parts car.

Looking at a zed tomorrow
Mine does this... I'd assume it's sorta normal. They do have very direct steering, so it is fairly heavy when your going slowly. I was somewhat supprised by this when i first drove my zed. Mind you it is nice and light when your up and moving and I don't really notice the weight when parking anymore. Sounds a lot like my box (not an original zed box). It often gives a bit of a grind on the upshift to second if you don't give it some time, especially when cold. It takes a good shove to get back down to second too. If mine is anything to go by, it'll get better when it warms up and also with more use. I'm with Shannons and I'm paying $350 a year, full comp for an agreed value of $4900. The only catch is you need an almost spotless driving record and be at least 20 (i think). As for the rust, it looks like a fair bit to me (I'm no zed expert though). I'd be making sure you have a really good poke around the chassis rails though. Edit: I agree with the others, hold out and buy something better since you have the money.

Spend a good amount of time checking both the general condition and also for rust, under the car. Maybe bring a screw driver and do some pokeing. I'd say this is a pretty important one, otherwise you'll end up with a zed like mine looks good, but its underside is (was now) made of rust.

Is this chassis repair acceptable?
There was a kink/ripple in the left hand chassis rail that the panel shop missed when they were doing all the other work on my zed. Took it back so they could fix it, and all they did was beat the kink straight without doing anything to reinforce the area. So I was already a bit pissed off with that, when I discovered how they did it! They cut a 3.5cm hole in the side of the rail in the wheel arch, beaten out the kink from there, then just shoved a rubber plug in it. Not happy. :mad: I went to see the local transport authority about it and they said that when assessing such a thing they'd first look to the manafacturers guidelines for such repair/modification. Does anyone know where such information is available these days. What are your opinions on this "repair"?

Considering selling my z. Reasonable price?
Thanks lads. Gav, your figures sound pretty much like what I expected. Pretty simply, if I can't sell it for 6k, then I'll keep it. Otherwise I'd just loose too much money on it. I'll have a bit of time these holidays to really clean up whatever I can on the car, which would help. Might have a mild L28 under the bonnet over the holidays too. Would you expect that to have much of an impact on what it's worth?

Wrecking (and damn cheap at that)
How about right hand center air vent or the doobie hickey that goes on the footrest? Or, how about the tubing that goes to the side airvents?

Considering selling my z. Reasonable price?
Also forgot to mention it has a 2.25" sports exhaust and I've just put a brand new carter fuel pump under there.

Wrecking (and damn cheap at that)
I could use the plastic bit that screws on the end of the indicator stalk.

Considering selling my z. Reasonable price?
While I don't think I'll be selling for some time yet, I have come to the conclusion that I am too much of a perfectionist for my zed. Add that I don't have the time, experience and money to bring it upto the scratch I'd like it to be. So I just wanted to get some opinions from people of what it would be worth. Simply, if I can't sell it for a reasonable figure then I'll just keep it. March 1974, Datsun 260Z 2 seater. Fairly stock L26 Freshly rekitted/cleaned/rebuilt round tops (about 1000km ago) Extractors (going on soon) Brand new king springs and KYB shocks About $1000 spent on other misc mechanical items to bring it to roadworthy standard (bushes, seals, over hauled brakes etc etc) Floorpans replaced Rear sections of chassis rails replaced Right hand front section has been plated Paint is fairly new. Average job though. Looks good from a distance. Not perfect up close, but still ok. New sports seats (appear to be some sort of late model nissan seats) Retrimmed interior (neat but nothing special) Basic cd stereo Alarm system just installed The car drives quite well now. It isn't a rocket ship being a fairly stock L26, but is fairly stout I suppose. Gearbox and clutch are getting on a bit, but still working fairly well. All the chassis work has been done professionally. The body is straight, although there's some rust in the body, eg around windscreen and a few small bubbles that have come through on the panels this year. Hmm spose that's about it. users.bigpond.net.au/oceanz/z/zed They're from the begining of the year when I first got it. Differences now are it sits lower, new carbs and filters, different speakers and steering wheel. (carbs, speakers and steering wheel were stollen :mad: ) Just looking for some honest opionions keeping in mind that if I do sell it I'm not gonna bullshit the new owner about its condition. Edit: This is not for you if your looking for an original zed.

Jap spec bonnet mount zed mirrors
I imagine these wouldn't be a legal fitment in australia, or would they? Now that I think of it I have seen a few obscure old jap cars getting around with bonnet mounted mirrors. They worth any reasonable money? Seems a friend of mine has come up with some over in the solomon islands of all places. Should have some more details from him shortly. If anyone is interested in them, let me know.

Solex Locks?
jurven: Does the arm on the end of the lock cylinder have some amount of free movement in it, or is it solidly attached to the cylinder?
-
Solex Locks?
Hence my zed has an alarm as of 3 days ago. Has anyone ever managed to fit central locking in their zed doors?
-
Solex Locks?
Who does make replacement locks, including on for the hatch? What in particular should we look out for when replacing them?
-
Solex Locks?
Well.....I've just made a new slightly longer locking rod for my drivers door as the lock wasn't locking, only unlocking. As long as the lever arm is of the correct length it should be ok. By the looks those solex locks come with a whole bunch of them of different lengths. So with a bit of mucking around it should be possible.

Solex Locks?
Would there be any problem fitting them to the zed doors?

kings springs--anyone used them?
Hmm....doesn't look like much difference in the photos does it? It certainly made quite a big difference in person. Before it had somewhat of a 4WD look to it because of the ride height and big tires. Looks a lot better now.
