  1. Good stuff. 225's it is! Looks a bit funny with the skinny front tires as is, so I'll be glad to be rid of them.
  2. Currently my 260Z has 14x7's front and rear, 225's up back and 205's up front. I haven't really push the car much yet (it wasn't on the road for long and suspension was rooted....and sh*t tires) but it did seem to under steer when I did push it. What sort of tire widths front and rear do people generally run on zeds? How wide can you go on the front without rubbing in the guards? Thanks
  3. Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys....cheers me up a bit. Still yet more dramas, the springs Fulcrum sold me appear to be the wrong thing. :stupid: I'm certainly looking forward to getting it back. MicksZ: That zed of yours is gorgeous!
  4. Heehee......funny Hope you get yours up and running soon too. At least it has no rust. There were a few things I shouldn't have missed either. I spose some things we just have to learn the hard way. But your right, at the end of the day it's just money. What $^!#'s me though is I took a year off uni to earn some money.....then wasted (? still to be seen) it all on this thing! Oh....and then my other car died while waiting for the panel shop to fix the zed. Been riding my bike ~20km to uni everyday with four text books in my bag for the past few months.
  5. I've owned my zed for 8 months now and it's only been on the road for the first month of that. Not only was I sold a dud (cleverly disguised dud), but the path to getting it fixed has been just as rocky. The panel shop doing the rust/chassis work took four months, did a sh*t job and it got broken into twice while there.....which of course their insurance wont cover. It's getting all the mechanical work done now by my mechanic (a zed owner himself) and should finally be back on the road next week. (that's the very very very short version of all my troubles with it.....don't wanna keep you here all day) I'm really starting to think now the car has just been tainted by the whole experience. I know the car is going to be good when it's all done, but I still look at it and grumble *&%^# ^%$& ^&%&^!!! Hmm..... Other times I'll look at it and think "damn those lines are sweeeeet!"........so there may be hope still. Any one else had a zed that left that bad taste in their mouth that just couldn't be washed out?

Damn that looks good! I'm jealous...

Thanks for that....learnt a few things there. I'll have a crack at adjusting the linkages, but I don't think it's going to help as it seems the problem is something binding in or close to the latch mechanism itself. I might just have to bite the bullet and pull the mechanism right out.

The drivers door had always been hard to close and open (never clicked in my head that it opened easily from inside though). Last night when I tried to open the door the linkage fell right off. So opened up the door today and put the linkage back on (and slightly modified), only to discover that now the door wont lock! After some playing around I found that you can lock it if you loosen off the three screws that hold the latching mechanism. If you do them up then something is binding in there and it wont lock. I tested this with the door open (by clicking the latch "thingy" two clicks as if the door was closed), but when I tried by actually closing the door, it still wont lock. The door does close easily now with the loose latch. I assume it's the latch being loose that's stopping it from locking now. Haven't had any luck at all finding what's binding in there..... Any ideas?
  9. @ popcorn! Right....I'm off to the hardware store to get some fuel line. Couldn't find anything that would even temporarily fit that fitting around home, so looks like the z is staying where it is for now. Don't wanna take any risks. Hope I can start the ol sigma.
  10. Cool cool......the pics show it clearly. I'll try and rig something like that up.
  11. Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking I might just tap a fitting into the back of the new air cleaners for now.
  12. If my old carbs didn't have this overflow at all, would it mean it's non-essential and could just be plugged up?
  13. Hmmm......I think I'll be doin something about that asap! Thanks for the replies guys.
  14. What should it run into?
  15. My old carbs got nicked, so I got my hands on this pair. Just wondering what the fitting pointed to by the arrow below is for, as the old carbs (also 240Z items) did not have this? I'm still a newbie when it comes to carbs, so need to know what I should do? Should they be connected to anything? Thanks

Hmm..... I think I'll worry about it when I get the thing back on the road. Any idea what sort of performance hit we're talkin for not having the horns on?

That's the one mark! Thanks for that....much appreciated.

A few years ago one of my mates made a ram air setup for his 1st gen camry for a laugh. It collected air through a fibreglass scoop roughly 12" x 4" infront of the radiator. I'm not sure how different it felt to drive, but I know it increased the top speed from 160kph to about 175kph. Unfortunatly it started overheating once he hit that speed due to lack of flow to the radiator.

Does anyone have any photos of the stock horns?

How detrimental to performace is having the stock airbox removed along with the horns, just aftermarket pod style filters in their place? That's the sorta set up on my zed (as I bought it). Would it be worth while fit some aftermarket horns?

Can't remember exactly what the product is that they're using. It's a black aint rust/sound deadener type of thing from memory. Looks the goods anyhow. I can find out if you want. Arrhh.....it's so close to being ready now! I can't wait!

Mine does a similar thing. The lever moves with relatively little resistance in both directions for a fair few cm and will generally stay there, but wont turn the indicators on. You gotta push it just a little further, but against a fair bit more resistance for them to turn on. Is this a common thing? I think I'll have a go at pulling apart and cleaning the switch when I get my car back (which should be next week.....all chassis work FINALLY finished!!! ).
  23. Wow! Quite a response there. Thanks for all the advice guys. Unfortunatly the carbs i'm lookin at buying are 1300km away and aren't on a motor atm, so can't do the carby cleaner test. I'll go have a chat to the local zed guru for some advice on rebushing carbs. As for the L28, I'm not looking for anything flash as it'll only be staying in the car for a year or so. Just want something with a bit more poke than my L26 for that year. $~300 sounds fair to me.
  24. I'd have thought if there was only a litle bit of play, the amount of air that'd get through would be negligible. However i wouldn't know , I'm still learning when it comes to carbs. Is rebushing the shafts a simple/cheap thing?
  25. Q1. How much play in the throttle shaft of 240Z SU's is ok? If I were to say I could just feel a bit, would that be acceptable? Any other things to look out for when buying 2nd hand SU's? Q2. What sorta money am I lookin at to pick up an L28? Thanks
