If I remember correctly the autos (or some of them) had more powerful starters.....or I could just be making this all up. :-0

Ahh I see. That'd be pretty cool if he can pull it off. I mean the car manufacturers have a hard enough time making a sequential setup work....let alone the guy at home doing it DIY. Would be good though.

Did this car originally come for Townsville (or somewhere around here?). There used to be one up here that looked identical to that. It was supposed to have something around 500HP. Tommo: They normally run sequentially. There's a simple mod that can be made to have them run in parallel. A friend has done this on her TT supra.....said it didn't really make too much of a difference.
  13. Oh...and from what I've seen and heard, an RB20 will spool a given turbo, later than a SR20 will. That's just the nature of them. Mind you, it'll rev higher than the SR will. Say my mates R32 with the RB25 turbo, it's making boost at just over 2000rpm, full boost (16psi) by ~3400rpm, then will rev hard right to the limiter at 7800rpm. That's a good 4400rpm rev range. Keep it up there and good power is always just a second or two away. But....there's always the lag. You back off around a corner, then get back on the power, it'll take a second or so before it's making decent boost again. In that respect, you simply aren't going to get good response from an RB20. With bigger turbos it's worse again. Another mate had an RB20 in his R31 with a pretty big turbo on it. That thing didn't hit boost till~4500rpm. Now the lag with that thing was pretty bad. Eg cruising along at 80kmh, drop it to second and floor it. It'd take ~2-2.5 seconds for it to the spin the turbo up. I suppose if you wanted good response a pair of small turbos would be good. VG30s for example will flick from vacuum to full boost in a flash.
  14. Provided the RB26 is in good nick....that's a total bargain. There's usually a reason such things are so cheap though. So what sort of drivig do you do? What are your reasons for wanting good response?

Personally....I think the Mk4 Supra looks better with the hard top. Z32's look the goods with the targas off though.
  16. I'd say if you really want response.....ditch the turbo idea and build yourself a RB30DE with some slightly more aggressive cams. You'll make the same power as you would with an RB20DET with a "responsive" sized turbo. That's all relative of course, IMO most turbo motors will never be "responsive". There's talk of people making ~190kW with a basic unmodded RB25DE headed RB30DE (just higher compression). No reason why you couldn't make a very streetable 200+kW. For example I was out doing naughty things in my mates R32 (RB20DET, RB25 turbo, FMIC etc) the other night, and I was finding the lack of power after lifting off and getting back on the accelerator quite off-putting. Where as, with a NA motor there's no waiting for it to build boost or any such nonsence....it just does what you tell it to.
  17. The simple answer if you want more response is to go a larger capacity RB. The RB20DET is simply never going to be a responsive motor AND make a decent output.

I have to say it is nice cruising around in my mates Z32 with the roof off.....wouldn't do it to an early zed car though.

Someone could have retrofitted it I suppose. Doubt it though.

The R series 1600 was only in the SS and/or SSS IIRC.

    The simple answer. No.

I'm another one that had this problem. I'd previously played with linkages and such with little luck. However recently a mates dad was playing with my carbs (due to another problem) and messed with just about everything there. Now that it's all back together as it should be, the sticky throttle problem is gone. I noticed that the rest position of all the linkages is slightly different now. I'm guessing the problem is simply due to wear on the plastic parts. If you can set it so that the "rest" postion is slightly different to what it was, it may just fix the problem. P.S. Makes life a hell of alot easier!
