SU Help 72 240Z
Miles, If lifting the pistions one by one on the SUs by hand, they should act the same (like your front one)...since they don't, your carbs are NOT balanced. You should be able to do the piston test on both and not have too much different results for each (imo) and from my experience, I would say you need to let out your idle screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn on the front carb, or a few clicks 'down' on the bottom adjuster. SUs are fun to play with! esp. if yours are from Z therapy, becuase it's almost guaranteed that you don't have any shaft leaks.

Accident and injured in a concours 72 240z
Sorry to be slightly off subject, but if you go to haggerty ins website, and put in my rig 1972 240z with my age, etc (birth 1971)...the total yearly cost at 18,000 value is only $174 per year...can anyone explain this to me? If I did have this insurance, I'd probably also have my farmers on the same rig, cause my insurance is only like $60 more a year with multiple car discount having the Zed on it. They also talk about cars up to the year 1969 a lot, so what does that mean? Does my 72 not qualify in the same? Lastly, Scanlon and Bean--who would you recommend for appraisals? I don't have any clue.... Richard--I feel for you, and wish you the best of luck. I would definitely discuss this issue with your attorney, or find one that has experience with this. Don't give in as has been said your isurance if you need it, will cover it. It isn't unreasonable IMO that another's insurance company isn't going to think a hill of beans on the 18000 value of your rig--hence your insurance...but first things first your medical bills are the concern here and I find it real real hard to believe that the faulty driver's insurance doesn't cover your medical bills...I am not an expert on these issues, but I always thought other partie's medical bills when you are at fault are the most basic of car insurance...if it isn't, man that is just wacked...I mean, why is the guy paying for insurance....one more idiot in the gene pool (and insurance co). Just my .001 dollars. Take care Richard and keep us current if at all possible on the situation.

10th anniversary 280z
<< Looks like they should have built one more year of S30. Then the 10 anniversary car would be an S30 and maybe they'd still have won that Motor Trend award by releasing the ZX in 1980. >> Motor Trend's 'car of the year' is only for brand new models...if the 10th anniversary car was an S30 it would have been disqualified...this is why the 'car of the year' from Motor Trend isn't much of an award if there aren't many new models that year... ie. See Toyota Tacoma truck of the year 2005 (or 6?)...good example...not many new trucks out there for the model year makes it easier. If the 280zx is so refined, why is it even today that racers use 240z's but never touch 280zx's?

Drive shaft u-joints
<< I am on shock and this is my way to calm down this evening with a brace on my arm. >> Man, I am sorry to hear that this has happened; it sounds like your car is a very very nice rig--sometimes things happen, and it does sound like you had a 'perfect' old z...Love has a way of helping others, and I'm sure you'll find it in you to get her back to original shape. Hope your finger heals nicely, God bless.

Drive shaft u-joints
one thing you haven't mentioned, is that this is a pretty easy job to do yourself; replacing u joints is something all z owners should be good at, at least with the half shafts (I know I am)... Why don't you just do it yourself? just the cost of the u joints, and some good hammer time!!!

best engine mods for stock 260z?
<< The flat tops are called boat anchors, and it is a myth, because no one really knows or takes the time on how to tune them properly. I cannot remember exactly the bore of the 70-72 carbs are but if I remember correctly, the stock bore of the 73-74 carbs are 10mm larger. Note performance gain? >> That's funny...the stock round tops don't bottleneck performance until 250+ hp...heh.

Who has the most rusty Z?
zman-- Did you inspect your z before you bought it? Even the slight glance underneath would've spotted the rust...also, it pays to test drive it your rig first--all the shimmy means something is up! Just kiddin man....I'd say get a magnet! :-)

'73 Fuel pump: its cut, where should it go?
it should just be standard 5/16" fuel line....if it looks 'kinked' just jimmy rig it by adding extra hose and looping it. There is 'sort of' a fuel filter in the pump...the fuel filter in the front will work just fine however.

Interior Dimensions
you'll probably fit, it would be getting out of it that would be the problem...imo. But hey, that's part of the fun of the zed, right?

350v6 into a 280?
Unless you're slightly crazy, bored, been there and done that type of guy, seriously consider doing something like a small block chevy v8 instead; you're talking major amounts of money savings and time if you're looking to burn some serious rubber.

turboing a l24
Not finding anything because nobody does it. You would need to lower the compression...stock L24 motor really isn't in any shape to turbo. Cheapest and easiest way to do this would be to find a wrecked 280zx turbo and swap the drivetrain into it. It just isn't worth it to add a turbo to an L24 (IMHO).

10th anniversary 280z
actually, Nissan wanted to sell more cars...the 79 280zx sold a lot of cars...numbers don't lie...to the 'average' car buyer, the 280zx was a great looking car when it came out....and if the s30 didn't exist (and we are all biased) it is a great car to the average joe. I believe the 1979 280zx sold the most cars of any year up to that point, maybe of all years...anybody know?

10th anniversary 280z
<< Personally I prefer the looks of the S30 model cars, but dont put down something that is an evolution of the Z and is well basically more capable. >> More capable? Man, that is just wrong...would you defend the Mustang II as well? heh. So is ball and joint steering more capable than rack and pinion? I think the change in steering basically sums up what direction Nissan was going with the 79 280zx.

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
as far as the big bumpers, you know, honestly, all things being equal they look pretty good...the 2 different choices are cool (74.5-76 and the 77-78)... When you compare the big bumpers on other cars done during the same period, the 260/280's big bumpers looked pretty good, IMO (see 74/75 Camaro)... Just giving ya 280 owners a bad time, cause I can.... now I'll be back after I adjust my SUs.....

Age-Old Battle! 240Z vs. 280Z
You all know I was just stirring everyones brains like scrambled eggs on that 280 people are along for the ride...I mean c'mon...I owned one....just wanted to get flamed I guess is all. Bless all 280 owners, one and all. All the 280z bumpers/shocks throw the earth's magnetism off a bit, don't ya think?

other lad kicked the bucket...c'mon gary you're younger, at least you act it... Welcome to the club Lurch! Pull up a chair, grab a coffee or some brew and stay awhile!!!!
