So if someone were to jump you right now, it would turn over and start?

Try adjusting your browser settings so they are more 'lax'...settings might be preventing the display of some objects....
  3. Yes, there is no 'flash' feature on the S30...pulling back clicks them on...doing it again turns off the high beams...the push back for a flash is something on newer Datsun/Nissans/other cars.
  4. If you aren't concerned with points at a show, a good alternative are aluminum pop rivets. The PO of my rig at some point used them, and they actually work pretty good.

""Is there a common slow drain on these cars?"" No there isn't. I have a pretty good battery in my car; due to hot weather I'm not driving it much; when I redid the gas tank, I didn't start it up for a full month, no problems--started no problem, a couple more cranks than normal due to sitting so long, but no problems. No drains--they aren't normal, just like any other car. The clock doesn't use much of anything (also presets in radio).

I would think that with adapters, this puts unnatural stress on your wheel bearings......kinda like those ricers with the wire wheels sticking out 6 inches on each side....Zeds look best with 0 offset wheels.(ala 911 turbo deep dish)....
  7. Possibly somebody put something in your gas tank...and it is blocking the fuel uptake...something like a sticker, I've heard of it happening. If it dies, go ahead and shake the rear end up and down to possibly 'dislodge' whatever is in the tank blocking...it's worth a try. Right after shaking the rear end, if the car starts right up, that's the problem.

Maybe someone can clear up the seat belt issues cause I don't have a clue; my 1972 10/71 has lap belts only, has holes in the floor for retractors...were 3 points an option, and were they factory or dealer? I would like some retractors...do I just keep asking 1972 240 parts people if they have some or what? when did the non retract 3 points come onto the scene? Thanks in advance,
  9. Your front brakes in good condition should work better than what you're describing. They aren't perfect, but they should work better than that.
  10. resurected, how much does that dynomax ultra flo run? Looks like it might be expensive, looks like a real good solution for a Zed. Let us know.

bemmer, you can have any size wheels you want...but if they are designed for a modern car, or front wheel drive, (like the ones speedy blue has) then you need adapters to compensate for the offset not being correct for a z. For example, at motorsport auto you can get the popular panasports at 16 x 7 and you don't need any adapters, and they have the correct offset.

All S30s, including yours, Tomo, have had the straps....I never use mine, so you're lucky, getting rid of them is already done for you. look under your carpet, there should be 2 screw holes on each side of the spare tire, in front where the 2 straps connected...you might need to seal them for exhaust....

have the rear brakes been adjusted yet? Do you have the adjusters (inside between the shoes) installed correctly? Are you sure? Adjust the rear brakes by applying the parking brake over and over about 8 times. Sounds like you have the adjusters installed incorrectly, possibly. That is good news because it is real easy to fix, (and real easy to do in the first place).
  14. If it doesn't feel centered (3rd gear) I'd say replace the bushings that everyone here has talked about; they are cheap, and the help a lot. Very easy to do.
  15. Try running it when the car is cold...if it does it when it is cold, then it isn't vaporizing fuel. Pressure of the Fuel pump itself I don't think has anything to do with it. When it dies, you might try pulling off the tops of the float chambers and looking at how much fuel is in there....or physically look in the SUs with the air filter housing off and see if its getting fuel when the piston is high up.... When blowing air through fuel lines, you don't want to blow through the fuel pump...
  16. Something to think about.... If the Webers are running fine, I'd just leave them alone...they don't have to be adjusted very often...I had them on a 74 260z...ran good with them...yes, 9/72 until the 280z in 1975 came with the 'flat top' SUs which were smog compromised, and replaced on almost all Zeds. If you replace the webers, the SUs from 70-72 are what to get, although they do require synchronization more often. I sold my perfect condition weber's that look exactly like yours for $150 total with manifolds...so you're not going to get as much as you might think.

....completely stock brake system....resto/rebuild of a Scarab Kit 240z What does this mean? They are 2 different things... Never heard of the stock 'rear proportioning valve' malfunctioning...I've been told it's not a real one...could be wrong though. If the rear brakes are bled correctly, it sounds like your cylinders are defective...have you taken off the drums and just watched the cylinders expand with someone else pushing on the pedal? How does the pedal feel when you press on it? Not enough info.

speaking of luggage straps, who sells carpet kits that DON'T have the cargo strap holes...I don't think I'd mind getting rid of those when I finish getting new carpet.
  19. This is kinda hard to describe...for a newbie shifting the 5 speed (or any manual) this is what I'd recommend: 1st to 2nd is self explanatory...no explanation I think is necessary. 2nd to 3rd... for a while, hold the clutch in, push the shifter to neutral postion....let go of the shifter...it rests in the very center of the shifting action (this is the neutral position) then just push straight forward....this is 3rd...if you do this action at first slowly, like take 2 seconds to do it, you can get it down to very quick. The Zed tranny 'guides' itself...its very smooth all by itself. But I've noticed the 5 speed, much more so than the 4 speed, will easily shift by just letting it shift itself...let it center itself before shifting from 2nd to 3rd...apply this to all of the diagonal shifts. I don't know if this will help......but maybe. Also, on the parking brake, remember, you have to pull up before you press the button. Apologies if these are very simple explanations....sounds like you're a young Z buyer, congrats.

The license plate light assembly isn't painted is it? The gray is the natural color of the plastic, isn't it?
  21. Blue interior is one of the rarest interiors...if your Z came with it, it should always be your first choice, it makes the car worth more.

FYI--he's working 2 full time jobs right now, he'll be back. [insert jaws theme music here]
  23. Since my 72 series 3 doesn't have a category I put it into modified 240z....as you pointed out Will to Carl, I still wouldn't put it in Series 2 bone stock, although it is close to bone stock, it is not a Series 2.
  24. electric fuel pumps were installed on a lot of 240z's outside of the US...you have the wires there for it...the 260z carbureted came with the electric pump (I had a 74 at one point)...all 280z due to fuel injection have the high capacity fuel pump back there. Just a FYI. I have the hesistation a little bit, always for me it's caused by the spark plugs fouling because of a head gasket leak....

if they were so good, manufacturers would do it. More than likely you have experienced a placebo affect or at best a temporary feeling of improvement. Does the gas additive have an octane booster in it? That would make it feel better... Just good ole motor oil is what I'd recommend, IMO.
