Redrill hubs for 4x100?
what are those 'new wheels' off of? or what are they made to fit? 4x100 with correct offset are ultra rare.

I'm back (with more questions too! 280z vs 280zx?)
Perfect example of why the 280z and the 280zx are so different-- 1978 280z has rack and pinion steering. Good rack and pinion steering 1979 280zx has recirculating ball steering...ala Chevy Caprice. They did eventually change from this steering setup....but not on a 1979.....sloppy sloppy sloppy. Great example of the difference--the X designation is there to tell you "hey, this is not the same rig!"....if you like Zed's, 1970-1978 is essentially the only years to get!

has anyone restored their license plate?
Gary, I asked DMV two times on transferring old plates; because I have the new 'tree' plates on mine, and wanted the blue background / yellow lettering of the 1972 plates on my vehicle. This was 2 years ago. Unless they've changed since, they told me I could not do this (Oregon). Has it changed since then? They were pretty adamant about it. They said that the only transferrable plates were personalized plates (like if they cost you $50 extra per cycle, ie. they say "72 ZED" or something)...

You can get plates to duplicate the old ones, but your car is considered a 'historic vehicle' and you can't drive it as such legally on the roads.

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
as long as you aren't interested in stock (and the rh mirror on the lh side isn't stock and with the mirror attachment to the post not being centered it kinda looks tacky imo)....anyways if you aren't interested in stock, the black nissan mirrors like I have on my Z work real real well, they attach to the door's chrome in the front corner of the window, and are much larger, and the rh mirror is very usuable. Check out my gallery to see pictures. They are Nissan OEM mirrors, I think off of a 80s/90s sentra or something like that. Get them through MSA. They look good imo. They even say nissan in little letters on the plastic on the outside housing.

Airconditioning
The biggest problem with ACs is lack of use....the oil in the freon (whatever the type) has got to be circulated on a routine basis, or the seals get hard--and this is what causes most leaks of freon. Run your AC for 5-10 minutes once a week all year long to keep your seals from hardening up and letting your freon escape. Learned that servicing many R12 systems earlier in my career....

bicycle racing, heh.

weepers
That isn't a hole; it's just the gap between the body and the tail light decorative gray painted items...nothing needs to be done. There is no leak or anything like that from that.

Where Do YOu Practice Your AutoX Stuff?
AutoX is about practice isn't it? Just go and do it...practice as you're doing it.

Windshield Glass -- foggy
...don't forget Russell Crowe too....just kiddin. Oh, and Men at Work, INXS.... Hey lets keep this thread going with meaningless drivel! I'm all for it.... I've lived in Portland, Oregon area all my life, and I have never seen or heard of Brasso by the way...but hey I only configure and maintain raid-5 servers all day and don't have the kind of expertise it takes to be aware of something so complicated as a product on a shelf that goes by the name of Brasso. This thread kinda reminds me of being in elementary school, if you didn't know something that the other kids did, you got made fun of...real stupid crap like that. Oh well...but gosh, maybe I should go check out the Walmart here and see if they have this stuff...sounds like a good product to have around for its uses. Carl, do you use Windows Operating System? Because Walmart could learn a thing or two about domination from Bill Gates. By the way, Bill could buy Walmart if he so chooses. I could show you how to use Linux as your desktop if you'd like, unless you want to add another nickel to the Gates' Family fortune. I mean, if you think about it, they put all the electronic calculator companies out of business a long time ago, that Bill Gates is ruthless. Carl, what operating system do you use?

Windshield Glass -- foggy
Tomo-- Since glass is a slow moving liquid, why don't you just wait about 100 years? The scratches will be gone, and you won't have to waste your money at Walmart. Just my .02 dollars. Carl--I'm not a moron (i was being faa-see-shush (sp?)), but thought it'd make Tomo feel better to have someone on his side for a change. Brasso I don't think is in Oregon, at least I've never heard of it. Scratches give your Z character anyways...you polish them out, and someone will T bone you tomorrow--that's how karma works.

i feel like a 350Z owner...thats sad.
I wouldn't try getting the diff replaced; your issue is well documented here and the risk just isn't worth it--fraud is a lot bigger problem than a bad service on your diff--call the manager and tell him you want it done right. Could be a Jiffy Lube person on here, ya know.

i feel like a 350Z owner...thats sad.
they will more than likely get a used rear end...hard to say, but it wouldn't be 'brand new' it would be rebuilt probably...but I've seen it where we got some used diffs if it was off of a beater...long time ago...

i feel like a 350Z owner...thats sad.
I'm just telling you the facts...we probably replaced a tranny every 2 months or so for crap like that...it's factored into their price as far as risk is concerned. I wouldn't do it though...I would ask to speak to the manager and explain what happened and have him do the service a 2nd time the correct way. I guess you could if you can live with it. We one time had a dumbass get an oil change, one of our best lowerbay guys worked on it...the drain plug came out while he was going home (I'd say 99% he did it) and burned up his V8 on an old corvette....we rebuilt the motor....

Need more wheel choices
boyd coddington will make anything you want, just google the name...expect to spend $200 per rim at least.... If I was 'sick' of rewinds or panasports, that is what I'd do. The rewinds I think look better than panasports and are much cheaper...
-
Need more wheel choices
I like these 2 choices...doesn't seem to say if its overstock or not...if these are overstock prices, then they're still too expensive! Still gonna get Rewinds and paint them same color as rear tail light panel IMO.... http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals_detail.php?id=498&type=bolt&data=4-4.25 http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals_detail.php?id=507&type=bolt&data=4-4.25

My 240Z doesn't crank - help!
Dead battery more than likely--even if it says charged--try another battery...or the solenoid/starter is bad--the clicking is from the starter/solenoid.

Windshield Glass -- foggy
I'd have to agree with Tomo...I don't see what the big deal about bringing up an old thread is...its almost like some people here live to bash people for it. Just chill I guess...I didn't know the stuff was at Walmart...so...maybe it helped me...so it DID GIVE VALUE TO ME....am I a moron, Carl? and that's a rhetorical question...heh...cause I know I am one and don't need to be told!

<<accidentally go past 30k between changes >> Come on Mike, there is nothing 'accidental' about going this many miles between changes....at least if you're concerned about your car...ie. my 240Z! Gear oil should be changed at the very longest interval of 15K, no matter what it is--and don't listen to the supposed 'can last longer'...the fluid might last longer if it was removed and completely filtered, but if not it's filled with contaminants and metal shavings, getting burnt from proximity to the exhaust, etc. This is IMO from experience of changing thousands of gearboxes and trannies. Coincidentally I loved working at Jiffy Lube, but it was mainly a baby sitting job making no money and I had to move on to something that I could make into a career. I thoroughly enjoyed the job, and believe or not, I learned a lot about cars--I do miss having the keys to the building and being able to drive my cars right into the bays and work on them after hours...heh...that was the best part!

No, the risk of damaging the gearbox/tranny goes way up--on gear oil boxes, the risk is low...on an ATF transmission the risk is very high--ATF is essentially detergent, its main goal is to wash off varnish off of parts and deposit it in the transmission filter. Once the detergent of the oil wears out and no longer washes the parts, the varnish accumulates on parts that have ZERO tolerance for play--it actually replaces metal and eats the metal away. Then you replace the ATF with fresh detergent, it washes off the varnish, and you've just ruined the tranny. Same concept for gear oil boxes, but not as extreme as a hydraulic gear box like a Automatic Transmission. I would be conservative and say if you've gone over 70K on fluid changes on a 5 speed or a rear diff, you might as well never change the fluid, and just wait till you rebuild it. I had many many customers come back after an automatic tranny service, where if its been over 30k in between ATF/Filter/pan gasket replacments complaining that their tranny now doesn't work right...then I point to the paragraph at the bottom that they signed saying 'if the tranny dies 2 minutes from here we aren't liable due to high mileage/unknown mileage'.

i feel like a 350Z owner...thats sad.
I was a store manager at a Jiffy Lube back in late 80s....if we couldn't get a check plug out (per normal procedures) that person would've been fired...they will do anything nowadays to make extra money. That guy who 'does it all the time' only makes like 8 or 9 bucks an hour...you sure you want to trust someone making that much money? You could easily dump out some of the oil and then trash your diff and get a replacement for free...I had to replace quite a few diffs free of charge because of morons working at the Jiffy Lube where I was manager (also sometimes because the customer set us up)...ESP if it is corporate owned you'll get it replaced every time...you may/may not get denied at a Franchise store....(IMO it is ethically wrong to get it replaced this way by the way) always get in writing things like 'couldn't get check plug out, filled from drain plug 1.5 pints of GL-5'...if they didn't put that on there, you could be in trouble, cause someone like me will be working the day you come back and get the check plug out no problem....(why they couldn't get it out is beyond me, I mean, they are standing under it!)...if they didn't put info like 'it is noisy, customer OK'd oil change on differential, Cust OK on NO WARRANTY on Differential fitness after oil change'. Believe it or not, on any gearbox or auto tranny after 30k between services we always, always put 'no warranty' because they can easily get trashed by new fluid after 30k...after 50k on an auto tranny I would never change the fluid--if you do, you can easily screw it up. Anyways, getting your diff oil changed like that is super ignorant man...if your Zed was a girl, she was just raped...
