Made my day in the sense you got your Zed back man! I hope if this ever happens to me that I would be able to touch her again. Apologies for what they did to her. It's almost like car rape (if there is such a thing).

If you ever do them yourself, I will get a set, PM me. I honestly think if the price is right, that every single forum person would snatch them up, because I've never seen them sold, and they are always broken. Just my .02 dollars.
  3. 260det.... It isn't about weight distribution (well sort of) if the V8 is placed where it is on this car, the bump steer is extreme...the dist. should be approx. less than 1" from firewall, with fabricated engine mounts and hood latch. I have known someone who had one and the bumpsteer / steering response just sucks in this position. No, it isn't close enough to the firewall...it it was, it would need a fabricated hood latch...it appears to have the stock hood latch, which is in the way when you have the motor back. I'm not a v8 fan (in a Zed) though, so I'll shut up.

I would be interested....in the metal ones...the plastic ones always break eventually...only if for the 240z....(reclining type, 1972 Series II)... I would pay $50 at least if they were perfect metal ones! (well I think I would).

71datsunz, its hard to help you with local places because we don't know where you live...fill out your profile information (where you would add an avatar picture) and people will try and help. How old are you? I don't mean to be rude, but when I started on my Z, I was under 30 and reality of how much time time time and $$ $$ $$ a Zed would cost never occurred to me....some of the nice Zs you'll find here on this site have so much $$$ and so much time put into them......it can be discouraging.....just don't set yourself up with these high expectations....just start with minimizing future rust, and remember, as time goes by, the cars become more rare...my goals of getting my car done seem to never materialize, but it also isn't going to fall apart and die anytime soon...I think most of us are in this boat..and i buy a new part here, a new part there and eventually have something that gets better and better....doing it all at once, it will cost you easily over 10,000. Unless there are compromises. But good luck there is a lot of info on this website....look through all the technical articles....first thing I'd try to examine is upgrading the point ignition...best upgrade for price I think you can have on the z.... I think your 240 is a great starter car, esp. since it was your dad's (from new?) I'd love to be in your situation actually....except you can't bitch too much about PO.

make sure you have a clean title signed in your hands as well. But yeah, spend hours and hours on this website getting the hang of stuff...also do a search ---you can find a lot of info.... take off the starter and look at the flywheel...I've never heard of a flywheel getting wasted like that....more likely the starter is bad....

I don't like emission testing, but Florida seems kind of extreme...does that have 'Bush' written all over it? Any takes from Floridians would be welcome! In Oregon, it used to be the 21 years of age or older of the vehicle made it not have to go through emissions (DEQ)...now there is the 1975 rule...if it was made before 1975 you can do whatever you want.... I find it refreshing that my 240 was build before that time. It would be interesting to see what would've happened if the Zed's first year was 1961 and had 11 years of no big bumpers and emission death....240s probably wouldn't be worth anything near what they are now....or who knows? I know that Aussies/NZs got the opportunity mainly (with the 260) but it would be interesting in the USA...
  8. and it isn't surprising; there's bias here towards the S30, at least I hope so....
  9. Back in the 70s there was a twin pipe setup, and MSA now sells it...both pipes go into the same muffler at the end though and the outlets are stacked on top of each other....looks like a pretty cool exhaust..but I'm going to upgrade to a single 2.25 or 2.5 pipe.

Oregon used to be 10% Ethanol only in the winter months, it seems to be all the time now...I try and used Premium because the gas always has the ethanol in it. I would go for it...although the trade off is about the same...ie. 10 cents less, but should go with Premium with the ethanol, which is the probably the price you started out with. Surprising, gas with 10% ethanol should be more you would think since it would cost more...weird how this stuff works. I could be wrong about the all the time....but the stations where I get gas either have it all the time or are lazy and don't take off the stickers--they don't say its ethanol during nov. to feb. anymore either.
  11. I would think it was a natural progression from that 9% up to the 30% you stated by the 1978 model year (final S30 year)....the car was more of a Touring GT than a raw ready to pump up sports car by that time...so more people would get the A/T.
  12. Just thought I would start a security thread...Dr.Muffn got his rig stolen this last Saturday, and it would be a good thread to refresh everyone what to do to secure their z. I am not very good at mine; it is parked wedged between 2 big rigs (I plan on putting it in a garage). I currently use a club with the 4 key type lock, but on the original steering wheel, which I think anyone who really tried could just take off...I am going to be getting an aftermarket steering wheel, and try to find theft prevention screws to go along with my club. It helps to have a crappy looking interior/exterior as well. But hopefully that isn't going to be like that forever.

Feel real bad for you....maybe a new security thread would help all of us... Dr. please post some pictures if possible so So Cal Zedsters can keep an eye out. My condolenses,
  14. dogma420 replied to beandip's post in a topic in Technical Articles
just checked out beandip's setup in person.... he put a brass collar with threads on one end===stuck the threads into filler hole and used a hose clamp, stuck a hose as per normal on the other end...seams to work good. I'm going to do it, but will probably jb weld the threads so it is solid in the thread area before clamping it.
  15. honestly man, if its been 6 months, that's your problem, not theirs...they did go above and beyond for you. I have never heard of any business giving any credit 6 months after, whether or not the part was used...that's not MSAs responsibility, that's the buyers' responsibility. No flames, I just deal with retail stuff, and that's a great deal getting some credit.

  17. talk about some junk, heh. And I'm just talking about what the guy's been smokin (referring to his descriptions)....I like the 73's sideways flat top....
  18. It does look 'bowed' very slightly...nothing unusual though...bumpers are for bumping.... Any consolation, it would be very easy to fix....ie. have my fat arse sit on it, heh....or even just stand on it and jump....looks very very slight though my bumper is worse....
  19. Yeah, I'm talking type B, mine is a 10/71 (1972 model year)...I noticed the link was for Series I 240z's (or type A trannies).....
  20. Thanks Marty, My bad... I was wondering, I know for a fact that the stock bushings make a huge difference from the old worn out ones to just new ones (the 2 side ones and the ball part that drops into tranny)....what kind of difference is there between new stock and the performance ones you have? Any links on where to get them? Thank you very much in advance.
  21. My bad... Type A is the tranny where the shifter is closer to the bellhousing Type B are the others... But the ZX 5 speed is slightly modified in regards to the bracket that holds the shifter in place. I knew I was wrong...thanks Bambi!
  22. Type A as far as I know, all takes the same shift kit, up to 1978...then the 280zx changed to Type B, which requires difference linkage... I could be completely wrong....but I do know that MSA sells 2 kits, one for 70-78 4spd/5spd and one kit for 79-83s and the later one they don't have any in stock for, and explicitely explain that the short shift kit doesn't reduce it as much... I guess we could search, as this tranny topic has been discussed to death...I was just trying to recall off the top of my head and didn't want to doublecheck cause I'm lazy sort of :tapemouth
  23. Just FYI, For 5 years, in mid 80s I had a 74.5 260z big bumper rig....I would have to say from a 240z enthusiast's point of view, this has got to be the worse model year of all S30s in the USA... ...interlock on seatbelts, too many fusible links/relays...very expensive brain box and electric fuel pump (this is coupled with a mechanical up front)...big bumpers, new 280 rear taillights and turn signal placement up front... Don't get me wrong, I was a young kid and this rig got the Zed blood flowing in me....I loved this rig, but wrecked it as I was too young and stupid!!! Which brings me to....I have an almost new 74.5 rear fuel pump Nissan OEM with about 6 months of use (new $400 +) and also a 6 months of use brainbox ($400 + new) for sale....best offer, just PM me...if someone has a 74.5 non fuel injected 260z, these would be a steal for somebody!!! These have been in a closet for the last 10 years or so collecting dust but would be a bargain for someone! Peace out,
  24. I have the type A tranny shift reducing kit from MSA installed on my 77 type A 5 speed.... Prior to that, I just had brand new plastic bushings, which took all the slop out, I think they were like $1.50 from MSA each....just replace the stock ones for getting slop out. The reducing kit is great on the type A tranny....makes the shifts much smaller, your elbow doesn't have to move much now! Take care,
