'71 240Z What do you think?
I am telling you, I like the fact that my Red 110 has white interior....gives it a creamsicle look to it (orange on the outside, white on the inside)... ...but heck, that blue interior is just gorgeious (sp)....just really really makes the interior look great... By the way, the switch from the old 4 speed to even what I got (a 77 5 speed) is just unbelievable.... The shifting is so smooth, and you don't really have to push the shifter, you basically are just guiding it and the synchros are much more like a modern car...highly recommended just based upon the way it shifts. I might recommend the newer 5 speeds in the ZX....a bad shift out of 5th and you grind the Reverse (they are on the same shift lever inside the tranny)...but I wanted the same exact ratios on 1-4 as they were on the 4 speed...just wanted a 5th overdrive for cruising to the beach. Take care,

73 240 in MASS $250 (on ebay)
and just always remember, the car can always be restored, just needs money money money and time time time... (ie. See 26th Z's 27th Z...that is basically a shell that will be built from the ground up)... Once 26th has both rigs totally restored and at a show, that will be like a religious event...I think the entire Zed crowd will flock with gifts of murr and armor all to give to the Majesties! Later,

Awesome car...sounds really good. Something to keep in mind, do not get frustrated (if this is your first Z)....you are going to find a lot more problems as you become familiar with your Baby....I know that after having my Zed for 5+ years, I am much much more familiar with this rig and all of its problems than I ever could when I first got it. I think even experts would think the same as you can't always be certain when you first purchase a rig. But how it sounds, it sounds like you have a complete awesome Zed on your hands! ENJOY THOROUGHLY!!!!!!! Have a Zedful Monday everybody!

Struts for 1973 240Z
Does anyone make springs that would make your suspension drop 1.5" from stock (versus the standard 1" that we see everyone doing?)...I'm not really interested in the added cost of coil overs (not going to autocross or race). What can anyone tell me about Eibach springs vs. Tokico springs or the ones from MSA? Thank you all for reading my post. Take care.

Test Fit
Hey guys, I like the mesh black and the mesh silver....good lookin wheels on a Zed... Epsilon...any info on these? They look like Enkies....also, you guys are in the know much more than me on the next question so here goes.... Give me all the info you can regurtitate (sp).... What is the handling changes if you use wider (1") wheels and tires in the rear, compared the front. What would be the changes if you had lets say 15x7s with 225/60/15 (Konig Rewinds)....compared to lets say the same setup (15x7s) with 235/50s in the rear, and lets say 205/60/15s in the front on these 15x7 rims? I'd rather have fatter tread in the back, and have better steering at slow speeds (parking lots) with smaller tread on the front.... But any comments would be greatly appreciated! Love those mesh black wheels...I like them a lot! Everyone have a great Monday...as far as that goes! :classic:

Struts for 1973 240Z
search threads for tokico illuminas...they are pretty good, because they have a 5 way adjustable screw on the top of the shaft...if they are too stiff, you can just adjust to make them softer...prevents you from being locked into one stiffness... If you search '240z' on ebay, a lot of these kits come up (illumina shocks w/ tokico springs) from one guy, and lots of folks on here have bought them...and they are an incredible deal, close to the same price retail for just the shocks....(and you get the springs too) roughly $350 'buy now' price....for all 4 strut inserts / springs (1" drop)... By the way, does anyone know who manufacturers springs for 1.5 or 2 inch drop in the US? I am thinking a little bit more than 1" drop....

if the clutch slave is bad (seized) it almost certainly will seize in the disengaged position (act as though the pedal is being pushed to the floor)...so this shouldn't be a clutch issue. I've had a couple of slaves go out on me due to the car sitting for periods of time---but this hasn't had any effect on getting the motor running. Just my .02 dollars.

Well I understand using exposed air filters....how do you reduce hot air going in--or what might you do to minimize it.

curious..
I really doubt they have them; go to any competent paint supplier and give them your paint code and they can make up a batch for you. I've done it with touch up paint, etc...with my 72 Orange 240z...i just say..."do you mix up colors based on a manufacturer's paint codes?" if they say no, ask if they know who does...if yes I say I need some "Datsun Red 110 for my 72 240z"......give them your paint codes, and year make model. Just my .02 dollars.

MSA 4-piston upgrade with SS lines
the toyota calipers, when comparing them to the Datsun calipers, are basically exactly the same...same manufacturer's design just one is 4 piston and one is 2 piston. Ok, big question....does the M/C have to be upgraded to the 280zx M/C? I've heard the 4 piston calipers use so much more fluid that the smallish 240z stock brake m/c can't handle it...well it handles it, just not very well. Any thoughts/input on this are very welcome....

Engine bay front
Sweet looking Zed setup man! tell me some stats about any times you've done...ie. 0-100kph or 0-60mph...or 1/4 mile...I bet its fast....have you dyno'd it?

MSA 4-piston upgrade with SS lines
when i was pricing, autozone is like $35 per caliper (83 Toy 4x4)...I know plenty of Zedheads that have just returned the 2 pistons to autozone for the core charge (which is $35 per side) and Autozone doesn't care (don't really know why).... With the Steel Braids and pads, looking at $150 total or so...which is what I'm doing.

Jmark, Look in my gallery for a good picture of a 72 air filter housing....link in my signature... I'd get one almost immediately....because the air is getting screwed up going into your carbs (tooooo hot)....I'm thinking of putting a hose from next to the radiator to my air filter housing to make it colder...the colder the better....

MSA 4-piston upgrade with SS lines
hey does anyone know if those MSA 4 piston calipers are different than just getting early 80 toyota 4 piston calipers? Just curious cause maybe they're better...they seem to cost a heck of a lot more....just curious.

bushings
These are the bushings: Sway bar bushings (if you have a rear sway bar) each triangle link has 2 bushings (4 each) Mustache bar has bushings on each end (2 total) Differential has a mount bushing right under it....also there's a strap going over the top of the diff--replace this if its original. As far as rubber bushings, that is about it. Replace with oil impregnated polyurethane bushings for added stiffness. There are 6 u joings, 2 on the driveline (which rarely go out because the driveline does not move other than rotate)....4 ujoints in the back, 2 per halfshaft. Replace all of the above items, and your rig will drive much better if they are all stock originals. ***also replace the pivot bolts that connect your triangle links to the spindle (if that's what it is called)...they are normally completely corroded on an old Zed...this will help too.

locked out........
Big brother anyone? Chicken--don't take me the wrong way...it just seems like you waste your time saying it would cause a mark in your wallet...cause it never has in mine or anyone elses who has done this....I 'get' the condom remark....

Z saint, I hear what you're saying about the meth freaks, being in oregon... good news is that all cars are basically like that...slim jims get open just about any rig pretty easily. its the other things that help... I've used a Club with the 4 way key hold type for like the last 6 years, I am upgrading though to a MSA steering wheel to prevent the steering wheel from just being pulled off w/ custom screws holding on to the steering column...also putting a mazda fuel pump in the back, very secure, with a plate covering it...having a magnet or a number code little thingy that if the code isn't know, no power to the fuel pump.
