Inspection Lid bumpers & rubbers ???
The only inspection lid rubber that I have on my 72 is the rectangular piece, this goes on the flat area of the inspection lid that the main hood falls over, it actually is the only area wide enough for the piece of rubber. I've never seen those rubber pieces that DatsunZGuy has circled...my car never had them when it had original paint...manuf 10/71. but they look like I should have them.

I'm going to lower 1" from stock my suspension, are bump spaces necessary?
I was wondering if I should install bump spacers if I'm about to install 1" drop springs. A picture of the part I am talking about it included. I am replacing my stearing knuckles, and ball joints, so now would be the time to install them. Thank You,

78 280z - Santa Barbara Ca.
Howdy Denz, Great lookin 78. I am thinking about purchasing a 77 or 78 280z to drive daily, since I now drive my 72 daily and would like to 'semi-retire' it to save it for my son in 20 years. Tell me your opinion if you would, on how you like the 78. If you are knowledgeable, besides the 5 speed, does the car's refinements help/not help it in comparison to the 75/76 280z's? Thanks,

wanted--some small black spacer for bottom of seat to raise its height...
Hello guys, I was wondering if anybody has some extra seats just sitting around...I found out why one of my seats was uncomfortable...it was missing some of the black round spacers! I need 3 of them to make both seats the same height. These are the black six-point plastic 'nuts' that go on the studs that the seats mount to the body with, I beleive stock that the Z (at least my 72) had 2 of these spacers on each of the 4 studs. I need 3 to make the seat the correct height. If anybody has some extras, please pm me. I'm willing to purchase them, if need be. Thanks! God Bless.

1st gen seats
Just an interesting note--At one point, I'm sure my car's PO ran the front end into something, cause the seat mounts on the drivers side are 'chewed up' kinda broke from driver being thrown forward...car is fine now, and there wasn't really any damage other than bumper pushed in 1/2 inch in the center and this seat problem.... anyways, one of my seats have the straps on the bottom, the other has a spring type matrix across the bottom. Believe it or not, the spring seat is more comfortable, plus I didn't have to spend any money on straps...by the way, I used bungy cords before I wanted to buy straps....bungies work real well, they seem to have been designed for the application. I'd really like to know what year the spring bottoms started...I'd like to get rid of the lower frame using straps and switch it with the spring bottom.

Solving the Fume Problem in a 280Z
Another great place to look to seal up holes are checkout all the drain holes from the rear seat brackets on back all the way to the taillights. When getting rid of my fumes, I did most of what Zhorse recommends, but I was still getting some fumes smell! I noticed that through the 'frame rails' on each side of the wheel well, there is a hole on each side...I sealed those up, and made sure the drain plugs at the bottom of the spare tire well and drains just behind the seat brackets were all sealed up. No more fumes!

Which year 280z S30 would you recommend?
I am thinking about getting a 280z as a 2nd Z car, either a 75, 76, 77, or 78. I would lean towards a 78 because a 5 speed would be nice, but an automatic wouldn't hurt either. I think I just want something to drive as a daily driver, and I'm ready to retire my 72 from being a daily driver. She deserves it if I can find a 280z to use instead. From the 280z guys, what would you recommend if all else equal, might get an automatic, might get a 5 speed (or 4 speed if a 75/76 was real nice)? I have owned a 74.5 260z, so I am familiar with how a 75 280z would drive, other than fuel injection. And although it could be a money pit, I am interested in expanding my automotive knowledge by tackling and conquering the fuel injected S30! (sounds pretty nuts huh?). Take care all, and have a good weekend!

Daves Possible Parking light FIX
Just a FYI-- When I went to Napa to get some 5 amp fuses for my headlight fuse box fuses, they were out, so I got 4 amp which they had; haven't had any problems with the 4 amps....this has got to be one of the best upgrades I've ever done on my Z. Sending my MO for the running light upgrade today!!!

Reproduction Flasher Decal on Dash--any interest?
Arne--yeah that is very different Enrique-I thought at one point my rig was a Series II. What I've been told, again and again is this: Series I--rear hatch vents Series II--no rear hatch vents, model year 71...holes in steering wheel, tool boxes moved. Series III--same as series 2 essentially, but model year 72...had rear diff moved back (not sure if this was included in S II). From what I've been told, my 10/71 vin 56895 is a Series III. Most have horizontal defrost lines (mine in 10/71 had vertical). Series IV--emission carbs, models 8/72 to end of 240z Still looking for more desire for this sticker; it won't be feasible unless I get at least 20 takers. If not, I can just repaint it (carefully!). Looks like this sticker will be for Series II-IV.

My new set of Fender Mirrors
Those look interesting, and not exactly the same as everyone else. Just curious--I've never driven a rig with fender mounted side mirrors--as far as functionality, are they as good as the mirrors on the doors? Congrats.

How Close Are Our VIN #'s

What did you cover when undercoating?
280Z1975-- I totally agree with you; someone that has documented the undercoat process and the vehicle is obviously meticulously cared for makes the 'trust' factor of having undercoat on a vehicle increase dramatically. I guess what I was referring to doesn't involve us Zed freaks so much as just a general rule if you're looking at a car 'blind'....if you don't know the history other than what the person selling the car says (and this person is biased because they want to sell the car)...then if nothing else is known or no/little information is available, undercoating normally is a warning flag on a vehicle...it is highlighted, in bold, and underlined in regards to a used 240z. Such as one being sold on ebay...if it has fresh undercoat and has some things that make you question what is going on with the vehicle, then undercoating makes my trust value go considerably down. That's all I meant. Someone that has documented the process and their main purpose is to avoid problems with the undercarraige and are very knowledgeable about why and how they did the process, that's different. I feel that undercoating in this aspect, like Zsonthebrain or Ed have done, definitely increase the vehicle's value and is highly desireable.

Dashboard
I don't think it is my style, but that dash looks great. I have a white interior, it would look great if my dash was in bad shape (it isn't). What kind of coating is that?

Reproduction Flasher Decal on Dash--any interest?
Once again, I want to ask, does anyone know of anyone reproducing this sticker? I know it's not on that one guys website that sells underhood emission sticker, color code sticker, etc.... And is there a different sticker for Series I? I believe that Series II-IV are just like my picture. Please confirm, somebody.

Reproduction Flasher Decal on Dash--any interest?
ok, keep the desire posts coming....yeah, all i was doing was wiping off mine, and most of the black, as you can see in the picture came off...I was pissed. Now I'm going to get one made that is superior in quality. It more than likely won't be EXACT but I believe even 26th Z would have a hard time thinking it was a fake in a car show. If I can't get it reproduced (with fooling a judge at a car show in mind), I won't bother. I'm sure it's going to initially cost a pretty penny to get the design done by my buddy, not too much, but enough to warrant a small price.

What did you cover when undercoating?
I personally would always question a car with undercoating if I were to sell my car with undercoating or go to buy one...maybe its just me. Now if the car had POR15 with chassis coat black, that is completely different. The application doesn't hide anything like undercoating looks like it could--plus its a great product, very durable, and if there is something wrong with the metal underneath, it is easily seen. POR15 looks like just a paint coating, and undercoating, no matter how good it is, to me IMHO looks on the surface like a 'filler'. I've always prepped and tried to finish my car with the point of 'hey if I sold this tomorrow, how would I do this to increase its value or make the seller feel better about this car?'...heh, not that I'm going to sell my car, but in 30 years when I give it to my son, if he does sell it (and he better damn sell it after I'm dead and gone) I just don't want the undercoating there...kind of a philosophy.. With that said, of course I am probably in the few with this philosophy in mind...everyone can do what they want...Zsonthebrain and Ed have very beautiful cars, that I can only dream of attaining one day. Don't get me wrong; I'd trade my car a thousand times to Ed for his '73 I mean I love that car! By the way, because my starter went out on my daily driver, I've been driving my Zed for the last 2 weeks. Boy did I miss driving her! Nothing like driving my Z! Everytime I think 'why do I have such a old money pit?' All I have to do is go drive her...they have got to be one of the funnest cars around. And they are so rare nowadays...it's been weeks since I saw a 240 in Portland...I feel so alone...

Reproduction Flasher Decal on Dash--any interest?
Here's the picture of what my flasher decal looks like (10/71 manufacturer date). My car is a Series III 240z....is there a different flasher sticker for Series I or II or IV?

Reproduction Flasher Decal on Dash--any interest?
I have a friend that works at a decal manufacturer-- he can make me a decal for my small defroster sticker, flat black with white lettering. I know it won't be exact, but probably 99% accurate reproduction. Is there any interest here for a reproduction? Does anyone know of anyone already selling this sticker? I've never found it and I'd rather just go buy it, but I'm willing to get this done. What is a fair price for this sticker? I was thinking $10 (includes shipping). Please lets discuss! Everyone have a good week!
