Tank straps after being wire wheel'd...
After being wire wheel'd clean, here's how the tank straps looked. I'm not going to marine clean since I just wire wheel'd them.

Cleaning tank after boiling with Marine Clean
Yes, it was required that I clean the tank with marine clean even though it was just boiled. My tank was really dirty on the outside in spots even after the boil.

Old original sending unit...
This macro shot shows how worn the path is of the arm along the wires; it's worse than it looks in the picture.

My 2nd purchase of POR products
This kit included everything you get for the gas tank sealer: some fuel additive, the sealer, 2 marine cleans, 1 metal ready. I also purchased 8 brushes and 5 pairs of surgical type gloves.

How my Z is sitting during tank resto
I have one tire ramp on drivers side (jacked up and then put under) with a jack stand on the other side due to tire being removed to get to access door for gas tank filler hose.

New Sending unit and O-ring
I must say that this new O-ring is much larger, but is the same one, so that says after 30 years the original was due to be changed!

What do you think of this look?
Word of caution-- You will eventually 'tap' something with the front end...I can almost guarantee it...you heard it here first--if you don't use your metal bumper under the air dam, its gonna get screwed up. I am a meticulous driver, but I've been tapped by people in parking lots, I've tapped someone in the line to put mail in the mailbox at the PO...it happens...with the stock front bumper on my 240, it hasn't caused any damage. Just a word of caution--you will damage it one day...if the bumper is underneath, it should imo be less for most small taps than if you didn't have it installed.

an R180 3.9???
hold on--us spec 240z have the 3.5 stock....right? I mean if we had the 3.9 everyone wouldn't be trying to find one, I thought.

Opinion: Cold Heat Soldering Gun....
Ok guys, I said I'd tell you about this gun...don't buy one. For reference, here's a link to what they look like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4381429703&category=46413 They work by have 2 forks at the tip complete a circuit, so they have to be in complete contact to turn the heat on....very very frustrating....I was going to use it, or at least try to use it, for soldering my gas tank sending unit wires to the sending unit....just doesn't work.... I didn't buy one, my dad had one laying around, and I just took the plastic wrap off of it, tried it, and told my dad to toss it after about ten minutes of use. Back to the 400w Craftsman gun I bought my dad for father's day, which totally works like a charm! I did just finish my complete 'pull the tank down, replace all hoses, por15'd the inside and outside, eliminated the emission tank, replaced the sending unit' job, and I just have to reduce the size of my 5mp 100 photos and reduce them down to like 20 pictures, and I'll be posting a tech article. Easier job than I thought, just took a lot longer than I thought.

drooool....
I think I'm going to get the repro vinyl door skins, without the chrome strip....I've though about it a lot, my white ones are seperated on the major line around the bottom....and my chrome isn't perfect....I love chrome on my Zed, but can do away with the chrome strip on the door. Thanks for the explanation 26th....vicky, possibly the little nubs on the back of that chrome piece are not in the greatest shape; you could use 3m doublesided scotch tape or emblem tape...just a little bit on each side and stick that chrome piece back in its place, I bet it'd never move again.... Everyone have a great and safe 4th!!!! Happy B Day USA...

Last week, on my way to work...
why is it that some members here have such a hard time understanding why a Z would beat other rigs off the line? I have done it quite a bit, and even if it is the other driver sucking it up, I still have beat lots of other cars off the line, and that's with a mildly upgraded stock motor... The Z is just fast off the line, we're not talking to 100 mph or 1/4...it is just fast off the line...if your Zed isn't, then its not setup correctly or tuned. Bemmerguy, what are you basing your 'under estimation' on? If you don't know how fast they are, why are you even building one? The motor is why I have mine...they are a pretty good looking car on the outside too. But its the drivetrain for me...
