280 Zed in Australia
yeah well the porsche boys where quick to lodge protest when a Datsun 1600 beat them in Targa in the classic section couple years back protest was upheld and the 1600 disqualified all wait for big change here very performanced based the car was running 240k struts in the front But the porsche boys where happy with the win even by protest freezing the catorgys would just make tarmac rallies more porsche benefits than ever Mick

U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
well must admit it is way easier now with the internet and some of these specialist z shops especially in the states got some nice gear from arizona z car and some coming from modern motorsports but still think its fun finding stuff that fits and making it work bit like my nissan V8 install nobody had done that 17 years ago when i started lots of trial and error in that one Bloke used to race a pretty sweet 240k down here had triples then went to turbo l28 last time i saw it he was running rb20 turbo with 300hp heard now hes playing with a gtr reckon he still has his 240k was real neat had lots of fun racing him at symons plains when he had the triples I rember him getting excited about cv shafts but dont think he ended up fitting them

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
ive been suprised by my brake package i orginally went with 81 mazda 929 calipers and discs on the rear they have hand brake build into them.the discs slide straight on made my own caliper mounts just bolted them off the 4 bolts in the strut 1st fronts where std calipers with metal king pads and grooved std discs 2nd was hilux 4x4 on grooved discs 3rd and current hilux late model on falcon discs with carbon pads through all my changes the backs have worked fine another option to think about is the rx7 series 4 rear calipers again hand brake built into caliper along with ventilated discs been running this on the rx4 rally car for a few years work fine using commodore front calipers and falcon discs Another option would be 90 to 94 200sx calipers its not that hard to make a mount my zed ones i made out of 10 mm steel the rx4 we made out 6 mm and they lasted just fine and been worked damn hard I might be wrong but a lot of kits your paying for the guys knowledge ( and he deserves it if thats his business) as much as the fittings but if u can find some parts and try them with out buying them theres always another way I was told jaguar 4 spot calipers and chrylser cl discs worked fine years ago they might have done for the guy that told me that but damned if i could make them fit under my 15" rims ended up fitting the calipers and falcon discs to my mates transit van man they worked sweet mick

U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
have you been able to source some 280zxt shafts was worried where i would find any in australia I have a dr 30 skyline r200 im fitting to my zed came with the inner shafts still in the diff and the axles gas axed off been talk with local cv shop and they seem fairly happy that we can use the inner cv and shafts just make get new shaft and find an end off something that fits and will bolt to the stub axles at the moment ive pushed that aside so i can concentrate on fitting my new engine but as soon as i have that running ill be working on the cv shafts for the time being i just put std set of axle ends int he diff luv to see some pics of how yours work out Mick

280 Zed in Australia
they must be real rare the 280 2 +2 never seen anyone race one of them though some people would believe anything i had a real nice VH commdore SLE top the range 4.2l v8 so being the person i am had to fiddle with so when the wife crashs it i have it resprayed same colour and put Vk commdore bumpers and taillights on pulled off the protection strips and added Hdt aero wheels and Vk race grill two years after i sell it some bloke rings up saying he owns it and can i confirm its a rare factory proptotype for the Vk range i laughed so much Another Zed of interest was the 300zx John and Jason white raced in targa first few years it was a Jap import fairlady 300zx i saw it when they bought it by the time it lined up at targa it was a steve Millen special with heaps of go fast goodies but for sure it was only a copy of some Steve Millen special

280 Zed in Australia
its amazing how many 280z there are in australian motorsport especially targa and Rally tas tarmac style events Having looked at the rules for these classes i believe they are no more than 240z or 260z with 280 motors claiming top be 280z to get the xtra capacity and therefore more hp In the rules for Rally tas and i believe this is the same for targa and other tarmac events u can build replicas of works replica cars mainly there so u can copy all the factory hotted up porcshes and i believe that is where these supposed 280z cum from because the same body run up to a 280z motor they can change to that and call them 280z At the moment under targa rules if a manyfacturer builds 10 cars they can run them in races eg the Broadbent daytona coupe and the Bullet mx5s built in queensland though they need a few more to comply the bullets that is

EFI Fuel Tanks
been looking at this problem myself have even been under the wifes vt commodore measuring its damn close fit to a 240z After listening to a holley blue pump and the external pump in my brothers vl commodore im leaning towards cutting open the 240 tank and fitting a swirl pot inside using a commodore internal pump think this is the best option saves two pumps and seperate swirl pot tank Mick

Total Suspension Overhaul
reminds me of two mates replacing springs in a gemini van they got a 12 ft long 6x2 piece of wood and pushed it under a steel work bench to lever down on the spring idea was to push it down then one hold it while the other one tied a rope around the spring to hold it compressed to put it back in the van (great ideas come in a beer carton) so they managed to compress the spring next thing the spring fought back and flew out from under the wood hit the roof 12 ft off the floor and dented the roofing iron they bought spring compressors the next day Mick

Finally Got Em, My New Fat 3 Piece 17" Wheels
wow they look great and to do it for the price you did is awsome i paid $400 per rim for my simmons back in 1990 as it was they mucked up the offset first go and had to spend another 550 later on to get the 8 back rims that i wanted but now cant buy 245 /50 / 15 anymore for the back and 225 just dont look as good have to upgrade to 17 i suppose once i fit my coil overs and r200 diff well done great looking car mick

V8 Convertible
nice car the convertible looks great not knowing the 240k engine bay that well but id think it would be similar to a 240z if so the easy choice is a 350 chev JTR have a complete book on how to put a chev in a 240z or if u want a later motor can get kits to fit ls1 motors into 240z as for diff just go witha r200 or if you really think u need it go a r230 (out of 300zx turbos and there cheaper than r200 but more work to fit) some guys are fitting them to 240z now mick

240z conversion commodore VL turbo HELP!
hi local guy here in tassie put a rb30 turbo into a black 240z about 8 years ago seemed to be a pretty quick machine said it wasnt too hard had it engineered and done right sold it to someone in melbourne only trouble now is trying to get a rb30 turbo for a reasonable price nearly as hard as getting a cheap rb26 turbo i looked hard at doing a rb30 with rb25 head and turbo have to be the ultimate rb motor but decided to upgrade to later v8 instead work starts this weekend made all my mounts got pre approval from engineer looking good mick

v8 in a 280
The JTR book is a must it covers everything you need to know about small block conversion covers electrical fuel gearboxes suspension Think the 427 would be a major project by comparison
