here in tassie noise is set at 96 db for all cars that smoke can be booked for excessive smoke any age on polloution talking to engineer here he tells me the car has to meet the std of when motor was made or the car which ever is the later built but so saying that they dont have any pollution test stations so its just a brake test and std engineering inspection oh and have to fit damn cats so to upgrade here to a 90s motor u need polloution gear to match when motor was built anyone know of some real small cat converters the 240z tunnell is not that wide Mick

the jtr kit would work on rhd car have the book and even cut all the mounts but decided to go with a later motor myself the jtr way is really so simply Mick
  5. Ive seen pictures of convertible 240z that look good but this is ugly and what better dash can u get than a 240z its a classic all that money spent and he puts the V8 in on normal style engine mounts thought everyone who considered a v8 z had read jags that run book which shows u how to mount a chev well back in the engine bay more money than thought here
  6. so i got to ask my favorite question when does a modified zed become a non zed does adding mags and such classify it as non zed does change to different engine make it non zed any thoughts Mick

hi just to let anyone interested know we won our class and outright in the rally on the weekend in the Rx4 beating rx7 commodore v8 rally car wrx a very fast turbo prb clubman and even a ferrari 308 was 4th after first day and then on 2 day thought we could maybe get 2nd so was thrilled when we won outright another 30 year old classic showing them how its done mick
  15. zed240au replied to zed240au's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
well my rx4 has made a few others shake there head 300 hp at 9000 rpm is way to much fun and when you eat std to warm wrxs for breakfest and beat porsches gt falcons and even a ferrai you know your having fun and the beauty of the rx4 is you can push it to the limit every time i mean you get a whole body for $50 bucks so there really is no limit to how far you push it not that you want to dent but ha if it happens i not gonna cry

thanks for your ideas luv my v8 but still cant decide what upgrade i will make when i get around to it have got a soft spot for the lt1 350 or the ls1 but cost are very high so still considering the v45 as an option Am looking towards more tarmac rallies i find that maybe going back to a six might be necessary to be able to run the car to meet rules and catergorys but id hate to not have a v8 oh well no hurry its running fine now just thinking of options racing the rx4 this weekend so it will be all fun stirring up all the people who hate rotarys they just upset so many people when you beat them with it
  17. i added up the cost of what i could remeber back in 1990 whn i finished my full rebuild and then some more modifications was over $30,000 aus dollars and the only labour i paid for was uphosltery and outside srpay job gave up counting after that have done brakes carby and heaps of small things since and still more i want to do oh well better than pissing it up a wall wouldnt have anything to show for it then Mick

hi ash sent you a pvt message wondering if youd be interested in selling your spare zg spoiler flare let me know if you are Thanks Mick
  19. i totally agree you might as well just put in some decent pads and upgrade to a better system when you want to do the whole job no point putting on zx disc and having less disc space But for dollar performance i find it hard to go past the late model hilux calipers and falcon discs $120 for discs brand new $150 good second hand vented hilux calipers make a mount small machine on hubs $250 good street come race pads and away you go About $800 fitted top system and good value Mick
  20. Im a bit suprised at your comments about the toyota calipers being dangerous Ive ran I found standard z brakes to be dangerous first club day got my quickest lap at the end of the day when i ran out of brakes she was metal on metal up front Symons plains is damn hard on brakes Changed to hilux 4 spots when i did rebuild on solid discs with metal king pads then black flash pads found they lasted a lot longer and worked heaps better Have since upgraded to falcon discs bolt straight onto hubs and you can buy blanks so you only have four holes you need not one big one plus 4 more when theres 5 stud discs with hilux vented calipers and good pads the difference was amazing and they keep on working Im not saying the 300zx calipers arnt better but i dont believe the weight is that big of issue and the cost is only $150 for a set of hiluxs calipers compared to a lot more for 300 zx Mick

hi ash do you have a mould for your zg nose spoiler have a zg nose but would luv a spoiler to go with it if let me know if your interested in making one would luv to buy one had thought of getting one made up but its in the too hard basket at the moment Mick
  22. if its was a full rebuild and done properly id say its worth looking at damn id hate that rebuilding a car then selling it before you get to enjoy it had my car 16 years now still have no intention of selling it Mick

I never got better than 300 km from a tank on my std 2.6 240z carbed motor so if your doing 250 on a race motor i reckon your doing great of course i was younger and silly so it was hard driving Mick
  24. when i was running solid discs i used metal kings then black flash pads which worked great dont think they are made anymore but you should be able to get reasonable pad for street and race use the main difference im told i may be wrong but is race ones will take higher temperatures and still work the carbon ones i had on my vented dics where good for 0 to 800 c but as i said way to harsh on the falcon discs im running the ferodo pads i now have work to 750 and last well been running them in rally car for 2 years mick
  25. you will find well in australia that is bendix ultimate are about the best good value street pads $120 aus Other wise i have just looked up pad backing plate in a bendix catolgue and ordered through a speed shop semi racing materials on backing plates to suit $250 aus did have some all out racing carbon material on one set but it wore the discs out in 1200 km My car is used for weekends and club race days so i find the semi racing ferodo pads work best for me Mick
