Hi every one here in tasmania we have three road events a year you would have all heard of Targa Tasmania 6 days of pure racing on normal roads The next event is Rally Tasmania three days of pure racing on tassie roads and The Challenge which is held over the first weekend in November starting on the friday with check in and then 3 days of hillclimbs motorKhanas and lap sprints around Symnons plains and navigation sections very similar to Grand Prix rally or Indy Rally This is a great event usually 50 to 60 cars Just under $1000 entry need only basic cams licence harnesses and helmets and what ever car you like dont need roll cages Great starting event to prepare you for rallying or targa lot of fun Has been won by a Turbo gemini Elfin clubman Wrx Last Time i placed 5th in my Rx4 so the handicapping is very well balanced would luv to see some more Zeds in the running and with the two ferries running now cheap for you people on the big island to come down message me if you would like any details Regads MicK
  7. Gavin I upgraded to the non ventilated calipers first and found with good pads they where much better but as the need for speed all ways need to stop quicker so i went with the later ventilated hilux calipers on falcon discs you can actually buy Skyline Gtr pads ( theres a great range of pads avilable to suit the GTR ) and use them in these calipers with carbon pads it stops on a dime now Only down side was flat spotting front the first time I used them for a go to whoa It all comes down to budget and use of vechile solid on calipers with good pads are big improvement for $150 au calipers and $200 pads cheap bolt on upgrade $350 Ventilated calipers still $150 per set $400 pads $200 discs machine work for new caliper mount $250 total $1000 but front brakes as good as you will get inside a 15 inch wheel Regards Mick
  8. Gavin got my bushes years ago from Howard at autocraft in Hobart Tasmania quite reasonable price could be worth a try good honest guy to deal with howard mailto:autocraft@tasman.net.au 03 62341044 easier than mucking around with the USA worth a try Mick
  9. sorry dont know the number but i believe any hilux 4x4 caliper from the period you quoted will fit only difference them to the later calipers is taht the later claipers are for ventliated discs To go on solid discs you need the earlier calipers Mick

  11. tell me anyone who went to the nationals what the feeling like now towards modified zeds or street machines as they where calling them when i last looked at the enty for melbourne nats back in 96 I went to orginal nats in 90 and there where grumblings about what was a zed and what was a street machine By sydney in 93 they where getting louder my car causing some discussion when it won best modified 240 Then when i saw the entry forms for 96 melbourne nats they had very set classes ast to what was modified and what was a street machine my was a street machine in there eyes for sure So would be interested to know feelings from lastest nats Regards mick

Has anybody other than me played with one of thes motors its the older nissan v8 4.4 litres has been a great motor for me If any body has ported hotted up one of thes motors would luv to here from you on what you did and the results Also any contacts to get japanese parts for these motors used nissan sport in victoria once but i think they closed down so if you know any good importers with contact for older nissan parts Who has an australian operation would be great Mick
  14. he if you like flares i say go for it luv that california zed look with the jim cook racing wing could up date it with a fast and furious aluminuin wing would look trick i cant see the problem with 18" wheels myself think they would be trick anyway my commodore comes with 15 rims standard and they fitt 18 to them all the time im running 17 At the end of the day the overall diameter not going to be that differnt to orginal i mean 245 by 50 on 15 rims is close to orginal so you go to 245 by 35 on 18 going to be close any way You have to modify these zeds to keep them alive i reckon i mean they where modified before they left the dealers air con changed stereos who wants to have a standard orginal you cant drive only look at better to modify and have fun but have to be honest mine was too far gone to be orginal so modified was much more fun all the best mick
  15. cant see the wheel size being a problem but on my 71 240z the widest with wheels set well in they being 15 x 8 the best width we could get was 245 this was with the spring perches raised so as to clear the wheel and tyre so i really think you would struggle to get 285 under the real of a 240z that is with out going to flares of some sort Mick

hi i have ran my zed at hillclimbs closed circuit events and drags using using 15 x 7 wheels Used yohohama A008rs tyres first 225 x 50 x 15 they are street leagl race rubber good last about 2000 km under road race use Now using Bridgestone 540 225 x 50 x 15 they are still street legal rubber are really excellent tyres wet or dry hang on like glue should get 3000km out of the bridgestones My zed is used only for weekend and race use so might get a bit expensive to run on road depends on use Cost in aussie dollars was $1060 for yohos for set $1180 for bridgestones Would really like to hear about your lti conversion havebeen running nissan v8 for years but ready for upgrade think the lt1 would be good instead of the turbos every one else runs Would luv any info on conversion have got jag that runs book on convervsion for earlier 350 Regards Micheal
