  2. Remember what I said in your other thead about people not taking you seriously.......
  3. I've read some of your other posts and, quite frankly, I don't know what it is you're expecting to find here. Probably the reason that some have not taken your posts seriously. If your struts are shot, replace them. If your suspension is bad, fix it. If you need wider tires, put wider tires on. A 280zx 2+2 isn't going to handle like a 240Z. It's going to have a certain amount of body roll anyway by design, bad struts just make it worse. You talk about 'building' your engine, you talk about putting a turbo on it, you even mention putting a RB26 in it (that engine alone is probably worth more than the car will ever be). You say it has a 'lot of rust' (your words). Concentrate on the basics. Get it running right, stopping and starting right, get it to the point where it's a safe vehicle to drive before you contemplate modifications that are probably a little 'over the top' for this car as you've described it.
  4. All I see in the diagram is an HEI module that is connected to the coil and the ECU and grounded.
  5. Am I missing something?? I don't see anything in that pdf showing the hookup(s) at the distributor......

It's the vacuum control knob. When the A/C is on or in the vent position, when it's open you have 85% air flow to the upper vents and 15% to the floor and when it's closed you have 100% to the upper vents and none to the floor. When the heater is on it has no effect.

I got the general gist of your post. I was just being facetious. It was also a tough read at 5 am, however. Good luck in your search. I've been looking for a Z pretty much ever since I sold the last one I owned.
  8. On the only 78 I've ever seen with the GM HEI module modification done on the 78 distributor, he left the stock module in place reasoning that if he ever wanted to return it to stock that would make it easier. Are you having trouble with the OEM setup? I never did.

    Okay...............................

Unless your uncle ran straight water in the cooling system instead of a proper coolant mix, a leaking heater core shouldn't have caused the floor to rust.

I've actually been in one. One of my brother in laws clients has one. He says it cost over $200K and there are less than 100 of them in the US. His other car is a lowly ZR1....must be nice.

That threw me for a minute until I realized what vehicle and country that is.......

As I recall, they were dealer installed even though the part number is listed in the fiche, referred to as "Leather Top" as well as a part number for the installation kit (I'd have to look that number up), but I love Gary's answer being from the era where men wore plaid suits and wide ties (even though I didn't). The second number you posted superceded the first one.
  14. I had a 'turbo' oil pump on my 78 but I also had a deep pan and oil cooler and dual remote oil filters. With that extra oil capacity, I figure that I was probably just a little better than 'break even' over a stock pump w/o those components. Never gave me any oil related problems over the almost 13 years I owned it.

Condescending?? Not at all. It's just that you seem fairly 'wound up' about a car that doesn't sound as 'impressive' to me as it apparently does to you. Nor does it to others in this thread. You have no idea how many of these cars I've looked at over the years, and how many of them turn out not to be what their owners purport. My reaction it to the car and the ad more so than to you. As far as blowing off advice, I meant everyone's; not just mine. I didn't take it personally; it was merely an observation. Ultimately, it's your decision. I would have no reason to condescend; just trying to give the benefit of my experience, FWIW....

No one said you have to do anything that is said here but you did ask for advice. But if you ask for advice and then blow off that advice, why even ask? It would appear that you already have the answers.....

I, too, hope it works out for you but it's been my experience that when a car just needs "x, y, and z" according to the seller, it always makes me wonder why he didn't do those things. I've been around these cars a long (and I mean LONG) time and I've generally been right when I follow my own instincts. Running a ZXT engine on 75 electronics takes some knowledge and expertise. A 75 280Z does not have power steering. Adjusting the turbo's PSI? Obviously you don't know enought about these 30 year old systems. All I'm trying to say is go into this with your eyes wide open and don't let a seller convince you of something that might not be true....

Just from the sound of your post, I'm thinking that car would have a ways to go before you have to worry about passing an emissions test....sounds like another one to 'stay away' from.
  19. I don't know, Rick. His product sounds like it would be a bit better suited the the "Hybrid Z" crowd......

Unfortunately, there's nothing like Carfax for cars prior to about 1982 when they started using the standardized 17 digit VIN. But the one you link is a non-USA car and has been discussed a little on this site already. Your thread seems a little strange considering you've already posted in the thread I speak of......why not just ask your question there instead of starting a new thread?
  21. It's an FS5W71B, pretty much the same trans as the 77-79 280Z/ZX as far as ratios and they do pretty much bolt in to an S30 with the same cautions about the clutch, speedo gear, console interference (on the early 240Zs).
  22. Flat tops will raise the CR about 1.5 points in that combo making it about 9.8-1. With a 2mm head gasket, you might be able to still run regular since that would drop it back down to about 9.1-1
  23. He's looking for used ones in order to reline them....though in the wrong fourm.
  24. That individual likely had the knowledge and expertise to do most if not all of the labor himself........
