  1. Don't worry, your cad plating looks excellent in the picture as well as the rest of the engine bay from what I could see! Not to take anything from the car, it appears to be all that you say, but do you have the 'Iron cross' wheels also?
  2. Any pictures?
  3. Cad is short for cadmium.
  4. Rob, you said you paid $35K for that car in another thread. What's your asking price?
  5. Why do that? Fuse holders for the modern fuses are readily available and easily spliced in.
  6. Mark, I like the look of those ZX wheels on your 280Z. You don't often see them on anything other than ZX's and, IIRC, they're 15" rather than 14".
  7. It was. The seller makes a correction following the item description. I wonder why it has the earlier hub caps?
  8. A 12/77 build date is a 78 model.
  9. Use the 20W, 3-in-1 is too thin.

Your's is a rotary compressor. The piston type were used on the early 240 aftermarket installs. I have non factory air with a Sanden compressor and I don't notice an appreciable loss of power when it's on. Nor do I notice it in my 810 which has essentially the same system as your 78. I'd rather be comfortable in the heat than worry about a few lost hp or a couple of mpg. I'm not racing.

Glad you got it solved without having to mess with the vaccum lines, etc. Actually, the idle shoud be set to 800 rpm with the ac on but if it's working maybe you should leave it where you have it. I hate working on the vaccum/electrical parts of the old Z/810/Maxima AC systems and I'm a MVAC/HVAC tech.
  12. Is that code 510 blue? Same as mine. Looks like you have the early console as the 77-78 should have the one with the lid.

    Here's the electrical info:

Though that isn't the best way to connect them, it shouldn't cause the problem. I'm leaning toward the possibiliby that you may have inadvertantly disconnected something while changing the connectors since the car ran okay before.

I see there's been a few posts in the time it took to compose mine. The reason I don't think problem exitsts simply because of low idle speed is if that was the case, it wouldn't die out when you revved it up.

Did you have the problem before you changed the connectors? I ask though the injector connectors shouldn't have anything to do with the AC. Yours appears to have factory air which would have a fast idle circuit for when the AC is on. Mine has aftermarket installed AC w/no fast idle circuit. Alot of things happen with the fast idle control device as well as the mode door actuator and air intake door actuator, that involve vaccum when the AC is switched on on the factory air cars. If you have an FSM, trace through the vaccum line routing as well as trouble shooting the items involved in those systems. Vaccum leaks could cause the problem you're having and there are many places they can occur when the factory air is turned on. If you don't have an FSM, you can download one here here: http://carfiche.com/manuals021/cars/. If it's not available at the time check back later. I know your car is a 78 but they only have a 77 FSM available. It will work, however, for your AC system.
  17. If you live close enough to visibly inspect it, that's your best bet. There's nothing quite like seeing it, hearing it, driving it, etc. The seller seems like someone who would tell you all details but seeing it would either confirm or refute his claims. There are many posts on this site on where to look for potential problem areas. If you can, take a look at it before the auction ends and report back to us.
  18. Elvan at Z Car Specality in Upland, Ca. is pretty good with them as well as all things Z/Datsun related. (909) 981 1074. Give him a call and tell him your symptoms and he can point you in the right direction.
  19. Carl must have been referring to the Paxton supercharger that was an abailable (expletive deleted) option.

Gary, he has a 78 280Z/EFI. I'd look for things like leaky cold start valve, leaking injector(s), a bad thermotime switch, a bad temp. sensor, etc. Any of the things that would cause a rich mixthre in an EFI system

I ordered a pillar molding for my 810 from him about four months ago and he recently refunded the money saying that they couldn't find the part in over Japan after initally saying that they had it. I guess that's really not Carl's fault. He's the only source I could find for an 810 coupe windshield but @ $577 plus shipping from Canada to me, I've been looking elswhere. I will probably end up getting it through him, however, as I'm not having any luck finding it.

Looks like it has AC to me. Or at least, some of the parts.
  23. That is also how I feel. Except in my case, the daily driver is the 810. It's a compromise from the Z but, yes, but to the extent of a modern FWD, 4 cyl econobox. I just can't get there:eek:
  24. Personally, I can't picture myself owning or even driving any of those cars pictured. It's just not me. I have a hard enough time with my wife's HHR. FWD cars are just not for me.

The factory air does not use the brackets you pictured. The compressor bolts solidly to the bracket on the side of the engine and uses an adjustable idler pulley for belt tension.
