Lifters or Rings?
If you have an overly noisy lifter (rocker), adjust it. No chemical is going to quiet it down. Go through an adjust the valve lash on all of them. Keep in mind that a little noise is good. A little loose is better than too tight.

Fuel strainer
No parts will fall out of the fuel pump when you remove it. The altitude switch is only in California cars.

Fuel strainer
Nah, just plug the lines that you remove from the f.p. The lines mount low on the tank and not much fuel comes out.

Ebay Emboldens Some Sellers
Garth, I knew what you were saying. And it's really no different whether the discussion involves the owner as in Burt's case or just talking about an eBay car. I you aren't a potential buyer, of what importance is your opinion of the car to the seller or anyone else?

280Z Timing Question
When you say 'ticking', remember that the fuel injectors 'tick' and they open and close.

carb change over from FI
Sorry, Bruce, I know that my 78 has that spot in the console where the choke would go but I've no idea if the early choke cable fits it or not.
-
carb change over from FI
Yeah the 280Z's do have a spot in the console for the choke cable with a blanking plate in it. Maybe just a carryover from the old design or the fact that other markets didn't get fuel injection until 1979.

Parts advice on a 1980 280zx nonturbo
I think all ZX's had air. Don't use an alternator before 78 if you get one from a Z. It must have an internal regulator. I also seem to remember that the ZX starters are gear reduction starters so I'd stick with a ZX starter rather than use one from one of the earlier cars. There's less chance of problems if you use one from a similar car. To be safe I would only pull from a ZX. There's usually plenty of them in the junkyards at least the ones I go to. They are both a fairly simple replacememt.

Calif Z on Ebay
I think you meant 'not pushing junk'. It started out as a thread about the wheels and went downhill from there.

Z in garage (San Bernardino)
I started backing my cars into the garage two houses ago when I live in Upland, Ca. I was working on the truck at the time and the only place the engine hoist could be safely mounted was toward the front of the garage. It was easier that way rather than pushing the truck back to use the hoist and then pushing it back in the close the garage. I guess the habit just stuck with me after that.

clear fuel line
No, not really. They don't pay me enough. It's just a little retirement job to keep me out of trouble. I do buy alot of my own supplies there, however, since I get a 25% discount. 250psi fuel injection line for $1.49 per foot. Can't beat it. I'll look into the gasoline rated clear fuel line next time I'm at work.

Also try ACE Hardware. If the particular store doesn't have it, they can order it.
