Z in garage (San Bernardino)
Thanks for the compliments, Vicky. I spend a bit of time there since one of my computers is right in the middle on the front wall between the tool boxes. It's just out of view in the pictures. Maybe I'll take a shot that shows it . There's also a parts washer, a drill press, 30 gallon compressor, a small mig welder, oxy/acetlyne rig, my air conditioning tools, a bench grinder, a microwave, a small refrigerator, my reference books, lots of small Z and 810 parts, a few parts for the truck, etc. There's a 2 ton chain hoist with a tilt/level attachment suspended from the main beam. You can just see the hooks and the chain in the picture of my truck. The garage layout was a large consideration when we went house hunting.

Basic 240Z vs. Late Model 240Z
Yeah, don't pick on Bill. He kind of an institution on this site, or maybe he should be in one

White Guage Face Opinions? Ricey?
I think you know what is meant here by the term 'ricer'. That's in defense of the thread not me since I'm not calling anyone anything.

my suspension
Very well put, Bryan, full of real world common sense, and I toatlly agree with you. My suspenstion is all stock rebuilt in 1999 with new factory parts and urethane bushings at most locations. My 55 year old back appreciates it. I wonder how may arguments you'll get especially from all the 'young guns' we seem to have here,

check out these wheels
Hey, I don't even particularly care for it either! But it's been on the car for so long now I can't take it off for fear of what it looks like underneath it

Evel Knievel's 1971 240Z
To me, the fact that this car once belonged to Evil Knievel doesn't make it more valuable. Some might disagree. He doesn't own it now he's not the one selling it and who knows what kind of shape it's really in at this point. It's just another (ugly IMO) hybrid. This car just keeps showing up in eBay with a ridiculously high reserve and never sells. At least the present owner is presistent. A Corvette once owned by Johnny Carson sold on the Barrett-Jackson auction for $11.5K.

check out these wheels
All I was trying to state in my post were the things that would deter me from being a potential buyer if I was in the market. Some like the wheels some don't...that's okay. You guys can pick my car apart all you want. It's not for sale, it's not a show car, it's not a restoration, etc. So picking it apart would be a rather moot endeavor since I'm the only one who has to live with the car so to speak. The car in the autcion is for sale. I don't see anything wrong with me or anyone else stating what they like or dislike about it. It really means nothing. I'm not a potential buyer anyway. It's just talk. It doesn't take anything away from his attempt to sell the car. I do agree that any kind of lambasting of the seller or sellers is unwarranted and I don't feel as if I did that.

OEM color of grill on hood?
You know, thinking back on it and looking at the pictures of my car from when I purchased it, the vents did match the car's color. I painted them. It was long enough ago that I had forgotten. I removed all the trim such as the rear louver, rear spoiler, mirrors, grille, taillight finisher, etc. and painted them satin black. So I would say that the correct color for the vents is the color of the car.

check out these wheels
Well, the thread is based on the opinion of it's author. If he didn't like the wheels I don't think he would have started it. Some people just get too caught up in it.

Aging Man with an Aging Car -- I need help
I seem to recall it going for somewhere in the 400+ dollar range because I remember commenting on the fact that his cost less than I paid for mine. ($500)

OEM color of grill on hood?
My car has black vents. I bought it from the original owner. They were black then and he never had the car painted. I've seen them both ways. The cover on the left side is to keep water off of the manifolds/injectors etc. I don't know why they didn't put one on the other side also to keep water off of the spark plugs/wires.

car won't start
Well something is wrong if the alt/reg are producing the proper current but it's not getting to the battery. There are no magic answers to this. Check all connections for corrosion and use a volt/ohmeter to look for shorts, continuity etc. Sounds like you're on the right track as you have eliminated the alternator and regulator as possible causes.

Air regulator valve
There are three different types not including the T-5. The 1980 trans was unique from the rest of them. Look at the chart in my previous post. I don't really consider the T-5 when I discuss L6 5 spds. It's kind of a separate discussion.

do these exist for the 280"s?
Look in the FSM. I have on for my year (78) but your's would be different.

Air regulator valve
Actually the 5spds are 77-79, 80, and 81-83. Check out this chart. It will also help with rear end types and ratios. http://geocities.com/Z_design_studio

check out these wheels
There isn't much I like about it except maybe the shiny paint job. The rims don't really do it for me, the seats belong in some other car, not a Z, the vents are filled in, what's up with the front end below the grille?, no bumper, no side markers, no effort shown in the engine compartment considering all of the other claims of what has been done to the car. I could go on but I really don't like to critique other peoples cars but you've posted one here that is quite critique-able. The person selling it for the 'older non computer savvy' owner at least has done some reading.

I once owned a 67 MKII back in the day. Ironically, my wife also owned a Cortina long before I met her.

Thanks for the compliment. I guess you missed the 'tounge-in-cheekness' of my comment which was directed at the thread itself rather than at you.
