I'm not sure about the carb pumps but the efi pumps pull fuel immediately.

Those pumps are self priming. What you did should work as long as you re assembled it correctly and it was working in the first place. I've replaced o rings in them and re assembled them and they worked fine. Your scenario has me stumped since, as you say, they are very simplistic in design and I have done exactly what you described several times in the past and they always worked for me.

datto 240z, your car is coming along well. Is your original color #510? That's the color of my car in (in my avitar). It's actually a bit darker than the picture shows it and I think it's a nice color but so is the 350Z blue. I remember you when you first came on this site. I believe you were riding a moped, or whatever you might call them over there. You wanted a Z, you got a Z and your're in the process of fixing it up. Good on you!

You say...a little? He's an outright bandit :bandit:

Usually on the F.I. Z's, at least in my experience, that gas smell comes from the hoses back by the fuel pump/tank. Not hard or expensive to replace.

I thought we did this once before and the problem with the site we used was that once it reached a certain number it started replacing the oldest entry with the newest one.

Check the speedometer from a 79 280ZX. Wasn't it 120mph? I seem to remember discussing that with a Zx owner at a car show a while back.
  8. Bear in mind, everyone, 'best' is in the eye of the beholder. :cross-eye

    Here we go.

    ??????????? The 280ZX used a L28E, the 300ZX used a VG30E, and the 240SX used a KA24.

Probably so if that's what you see when you look at the 510 in the picture

First of all, welcome! Secondly, your best bet would be to use the search function. Usually I'm not one that suggest that to a new member but you've asked questions here and in your post about bumpers that there is a lot of information already available about on this site. And the answers are somewhat subjective based on the opinion of those who respond. The 'experts' have already spoken on these topics.

It was good for holding the engine speed at a certain rpm. Some people used it as a form or cruise control but it not good for that because it doesn't release unless you release it. My 1600 roadster had one and I never used it.
  14. I give up! OUT.
  15. sblake01 replied to Arne's post in a topic in Carburetor Central
Thanks, mdbrandy, I was going to say that but it's been a while since I owned a 240 and my recollection was kind of foggy. :surprised
  16. Told us what? The orginal question had to do with the car being on a jack with one wheel lifted not on a hoist or jackstands or bricks/blocks/crates, etc., and not a damn thing to do with Mazdas either!
  17. No, I lost the one I originally had when we moved from Upland to Fontana. The one I bought from you is the the one I misplaced in my truck during the Fontana to San Bernardino move.

Where's the picture? What are we talking about here?

I just saw a set in the junkyard today on a 72. I wondered why they were still there. That car must have just come in. Not being into eBay selling and not owning a 240, I left them there. They're probably gone already. At Ecology they go for 10-15 bucks each.

Welcome! The Z looks good. I forget what gets damaged when a battery is hooked up backwards. It seem to me we discussed that in a thread sometime ago.
  21. Who does that?
  22. sblake01 replied to rsikes's post in a topic in Help Me !!
I own a rust free 78 in the approximate condition you describe. Sadly, I don't think they are worth 9K. Not yet. On the other point an auto trans Z won't pull like a 4 or 5 speed but it should still have some zip, especially from a roll.
  23. Oh no, I don't think it does any harm either. It flexes back to normal when you take it off the jack.

I guess this is just one of those 'boomerang' type threads.
  25. Those who said 'false' didn't understand the question. I learned that years ago on my 510. The body will tweak slightly when a unibody car is jacked up unevenly.
