What is a GS30???????
I know that, it's just a typo or a brain fart. I'll fix it. My point was that the S30 part applies to all Zs, 240-260-280.

What is a GS30???????
Actually an HLS30 is any LHD Z from 69(70)-78 with the exception of the 74 260Z (RLS30).

Seems like a really clean and original 72'
Those are the shipping hooks. I believe all Zs had them originally. They are removable.

Are '79 5 Spds any good?
That's true except for the 'A-B' thing. The A box was an eariler trans which we never got here in the US in a Z and has nothing to do with the 75-83 transmissions which are all B boxes. The FS5C71A trans was found here in the 67-70 2000 Roadster and non-US Z cars through 74. The 75-79 FS5W71B had an .864 5th gear while the 80-83 FS5W71B had a .752 fifth gear. Second and third gear were also slightly different ratios.

Are '79 5 Spds any good?
I've never heard anything about a 79 tranny being any better or worse than any other in the 75-83 range. Lots of people are running the N47 head with carbs. I've never done one myself but I don't see where there would be a problem.

MidwestZ??
Read the thread. It's way beyond that. Why don't we just let it rest? She's not coming back as Midwest Z. Let it go!

Stephan_and_DatRod
Not much legroom, however! It's an experience to drive that truck from Fontana to Oceanside.(about 80 miles) At 6'2", my knees barely clear the steering wheel.

Absolutely Gorgeous Modified Z
It'll die, as it should, if no one comments on its subject matter. But, then again, it's originator didn't really die either.

Idler pulley noise
I speak fluent 280 but I think you are speaking 280ZX because there is no idler pulley under the hood of my 78. EDIT: Okay I'm probably wrong. My car has aftermarket air. Maybe the ones with factory air have an idler pulley.

Do you like the Skylines?
Is that a C10 or a C110?

Do you like the Skylines?
Joe, how's that 810 coming along?

Do you like the Skylines?
There was one at the Mossy show last Sunday. It was L20 powered which I guess makes it a replica. The guy had it imported here from Japan about two months ago. I didn't get any pictures but I'm pretty sure it will be on the 'Katy's Nest' site because she took several pictures of the show.

Do you like the Skylines?
I don't care much for those Skylines-they're rice cars. I like the ones from the 60s and 70s as discussed in our Skyline forums here.

My Z story
I don't know, if anyone could find Kansas City, Michigan, leave it to Bill!

Steering rack bumper thingy??
In post #2, it seems to me that Carl answered the question. I asked my Z mechanic Elvan about it and he says the same thing.

Guages and Dash-Cap
While you're in there, check the heater valve, clamps, etc., anything that you can get to more easily with the dash out. It'll save you some hassle later. (Trust me on that one!)

Guages and Dash-Cap
The tach and speedo come out through the front of the dash. Since the dash cap goes into those openings, the only way to remove the guages is to first remove the dash cap. I had the same problem on my Z. I actually had to replace my dash cap when I changed my tach because I cracked it in a couple of places when I removed it.

So-So 1970 Diecasts at Big Lots
Funny thing is the Road Signature rally car (#26) has the D hubcaps and the Road signature stock car (the 26th-27thZ mini-me) has the 72 caps. But they are the same car basically. Now the Kyosho has a rear window defroster, carpet, diamond vinyl on the trans tunnel, upolstery in the back, walnut shift knob and steering wheel, decals on the air cleaner, the correct valve cover, decals on the master-vac and radiator, and even a paint sticker on the radiator support! (although I can't make out the number) It has heater hoses and spark plug/coil wires. It even has rolled up side windows. But not the corrrect hubcaps. No emblem at all in the center. I can't imagine the Franklyn Mint 1/24 being any more detailed. The SunStar is junk. I have the SunStar. (A Black 72!!), the two above mentioned Road Sig., the Kyosho, as well as a red Kyosho Z32 and an Orange Maisto Z33. And over 75 other 1/18 Muscle, Classic, Vintage, and Exotic cars and trucks. I also have a Nissan Mid-4, a 280ZX, a Z31, a couple of Z32s and a Z33 in the Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Johnny Lightning size. Then theres the Days Gone and the Racing Champions/MacDonalds' Bill Elliot collection...........

This could be fun.
Vicky, those sound like Steven Wright one liners. I always liked his humor. He seems funnier if you see him do the jokes himself in that monotone way he delivers them.

What makes a great plug wire?
I have always used the NGK wires on my L engines. Nary a problem.

??? Electronic Igniter???
You're quite welcome. I've had some experience with the fuel injected Datsuns. They are somewhat unique compared to other cars I've dealt with. If you saw that recent History Channel Z thing even people with mechanical experience have difficulty with Z's if they are not familiar with them. There's nothing wrong with asking questions. That's how I learned and how I am still learning about them.

Paint codes
Fell free to use the picture. The FSM doesn't list any paint codes nor does the 77 dealer brochure I have. I've seen other 77 and 78 cars with this color (510). I've been searching for more info on this but so far have come up empty. BTW the color is called 'Sky Blue Metallic'

Califor-nia Z car for sale
Hey Cam, the car in your avitar is very reminiscent of my 78 280Z Blue color, factory alloy wheels, window louver, etc. My question is, what is the paint code on it? We were discussing on another thread how the color '510' blue seems to be missing from the charts and I was just wondering if yours was that color.
-
Paint codes
That's the best shot I could get of the paint sticker. If you can't read the '510' on it I'll pull it out of the garage and take one when the sun is out.

Should i buy this 240z?
Come to think of it, James did say 'memorable' not enjoyable. Gettting mine home for the first time was an experience that I do remember! We tried to tow it home but the brakes were locked up and we ended up calling the Auto Club.
