Those wouldn't fit your car anaway, Bill.
  2. ARA is a HVAC company that did a lot of a/c installations for dealers back in the 70s. There's still and ARA shop in Ontario, CA. They repalced some parts and recharged my system back in 1997 before R12 became really expensive. My 78 has the ARA system and has a smaller version of that pod with just a single knob to control the compressor. In 78, you could get Nissan factory air or 'dealer installed air'.

On my 78 that turned out to be a leaking heater control valve and/or thermo control unit. I had the heater core, heater valve, thermo control unit, and all of the little hoses and clamps replaced last summer and haven't had a leak since. I check it regularly. I had changed the hoses and clamps myself and still, it leaked. It was drivig me nuts. Wasn't much of a leak just enought to be annoying. After getting tired of keeping a towel on the floor on the passenger side, and drying the floor everytime I drove it I went to my local Z expert, Elvin, in Upland, CA. It basically only leaked when the engine was running.

Echocluster, this site might be worth a look: http://www.geocities.com/inlinestroker/index.htm
  5. Makes perfect sense to me, kmack. I don't have any personal experience with Mikunis on Zs but I do have a single Weber 40DCOE on my L320. The first adjustment you describe makes it easier to drive normally while the second one is kind of like a quarter turn throttle on a motorcycle.
  6. Doesn't leave us much to choose from, does it?:classic:

Being basically retired, I spend a bit of time on the home computer. But as far as Bill, well my family is from Guyana (South America). They all speak English. However, the English they speak and write, is quite different from what you hear on a daily basis. I think that growing up with that helped me in understanding English spoken and written with different inflections and pronunciations. With that as a background coupled with being black and growing up in Southern California, like ChrisA said, Bill is a piece of cake to understand. So is Kats. I would only correct someone's spelling on a technical term (remember 'anaphylaxis' Bill). I understood the purpose of the use of the spelling in the other thread ('Texens'). I would never be so bold as to correct someone's general conversation. It brings to mind an episode or M*A*S*H when Major Winchester was pointing out the grammatical and spelling mistakes in a letter for Radar's mom. Those of you familiar with it will remember Radar's response. Well, enough OT rambling. Bill, just be Bill. That's the best person you know how to be.

Yes they are all Hitachi made SU copies, even the flat tops. Bill, if you have round tops on an L26 it was converted. Without even knowing it you a right on another point. It is generally accepted that 260Z's were only made for the 1974 model year, usually reffered to as early or late (small vs big bumpers). But I have seen 260Z's with build dates as late as 11/74 and they are registered as 75's. I guess they ran behind on the development of the 75 280Z.
  9. Should be stamped on the block approximately where you would find it on the L engines-just harder to see because of the crossflow arrangement. Lordbiotree, those are the same engines I spoke of only that the earlier ones were carbed. My 81 200SX did have fuel injection. I have seen import versions of that engine with the same arrangement but with only four spark plugs. I think that was the Z18. I feel that they are good motors to leave stock and run them to death because they do last. It's less expensive to build an L16, 18, 20B.
  10. That motor comes out of the late 510 (A10) 78-81 or the 200SX same years. To use it in a early 510 you'll need the trans from the above mentioned cars because that motor is tilted more than the L series and the trans that goes with it is tilted to match. Oterwise your shifter will come out at an angle if you use the L motor tranny. Putting a L series head on those NapsZ engines requires a lot of work because of the difference in deck hieght. Plus, you'll lose the cross flow aspect. In the US the came as 2l, 2.2l, and 2.4l. There were other versions on this engine in other countries.

From what I can recall, having seen signs in the various Datsun dealers I had been to back in the day, that sign looks like a cheap knock-off.
  12. Thanks, Alan T. That is a Datsun enthusiat's heaven!

Come on, you guys this is a 3 1/2 month old thread and the guy never responded again after his initial post. Plus it's a poll with no pictures except for the one low resolution shot in his gallery. I'd say forget about it!

That light also indicates low brake fluid or a problem with the caps that monitor the brake fluid level. Like Ed said, you'll need to go through the entire brake system. I had to do that on my 78 when I bought it. It had been sitting for over four years. The rear shoes were stuck to the drum, the pistons in the calipers were rusted, the wheel cylinders leaked, etc. It's just a good idea to go through the whole system.

Bill, Kmack, et al. I don't think Steve directed that specifically at you, so you don't need to personally attack him. Besides, his point is correct. He wasn't referring to you but rather to that kind of driving in general. I have had my share of near misses because of some fool not being in full control of his vehicle. Even if you take that corner at 35, if some fool is comming the other way at 70, you are in danger. That was his point.

ANAPHYLAXIS! I also suffer from that. My last episode really ties in with thread. I was under my wife's car welding an exhaust hanger when some hot slag fell on my arm. As I slid out from under the car, I looked down at my left leg only to find that I had been stung on my thigh by a bee. Like you said Bill, a night in the E.R.!
  17. Bill, don't do that. Keep your Datsun all Datsun. I considered putting a 13B in my 64 L320 because of the small size of the engine compartment but went with a less powerful J16 because it is a Datsun engine and it basically bolted in. I've never regretted that decision.

I scored a 155! I am, however, smart enough to know that I'm not that smart!

I would really doubt that cruise control was a factory option in 73. It's not even mentioned as an option in my 1978 sales brochure! Some P.O. probably hacked your steering column surround.

All three of the Z's I have owned had black luggage straps. 70 Red/Black int., 72 Red/Tan int., 78 Blue/Black int.

Thanks, but I want Datsun rims. I have a line one some in Great Brittan (Datman). It's just a matter of whether I want to pay the shipping. I'm still trying to decide.

  23. It looks like only the ones from a 78 (8/77 up) will work. Part no. 46020-U6711
  24. Might be easier to replace them. Tough area for solder. I see them all the time at the 'yards and I might even have a set somewhere amongst all my Datsun stuff.

I thought Bogart said that in the movie 'African Queen'.
