  1. I find that to be an interesting trend. It seems that most of the manufacturers are using names from the 50s 60s and 70s to recapture some of the glory of what had to be a most successful era for the automotive industry. GTO, Thunderbird, Magnum, Super Bee (Rumble Bee??), Impala, etc. These newer cars don't appeal to me as ones they are named after did 'back in the day.' Maybe because I grew up with them or maybe becase I'm older. I just don't think the 80s 90s and 2k cars will have the same type of appeal in 30 years.

Where are you at in SB? I live in Fontana and would like to look at your stuff.

N34? Here is a list of the only stock L6 cylinder heads I've ever heard of: E31, E88, N42, N47, P79, P90, P90A, Y70, and E80. The latter two, as I understand it, were only on Australian cars and I've never seen either of them.
  4. This car has been discussed several times here before. It seems to pop up on eBay every few months. Here's the link to the most recent: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12212&highlight=factory+restored
  5. Technically, however, wouldn't that be exhaust? (Mike, if you kill the previous two comments, kill this one too because it'll no longer make sense.
  6. I was always under the impression that were no '1969' Zs. 1969 build dates, yes, but introduced for the 1970 model year.
  7. I would have to agree with symon. It seems like you would need two tubes with smooth bends, one going into each carb, and two filters for any kind of efficency. I don't know about the air making that sharp left turn. Also, being brass, wouldn't that be kind of on the heavy side?

Didn't we go through this before? In several other threads that you started about this car? If I remember correctly it was a 1979 ZX in the other threads and now it's a 1978 280Z? And we did talk about several things that could cause the problems you describe and now you've come full circle to what is basically where you began. Is this the same car or a different car? If it is the same car, and you followed the previous suggestions, then you need to look at the possibility that your gas tank is clogged from sitting for too long.
  10. Sounds to me like you have a manual choke and you're simply not using it. As far as I know, no 240 or 260 ever had an electric choke. How did you decide that yours does? And the flat top carbs? If they work, keep them. Find that choke knob and pull it!

I came across that site about a year or so ago while looking for information on the 810. I couldn't find anything on the American 6 cylinder version of the 810 but everything else seems to be well covered on that site.

Just another one of those guys that when through the junkyard with a magnet! Have you seen his other items? He has an upper and lower 280Z grille advertised as a 240Z-260Z-280Z grille. His bidder IDs are kept private. I guess that's to avoid public embarrasment!

That's sblake01 and yes, I do smell you.
  14. Or, maybe the connector to the AFM? Did that once changing the radiator in my Z.
  15. A transmission jack or at least a transmission adapter for your floor jack is an indispensible investemt. Mine tilts, swivels and rotates making trans installation a one man job. Like they say, let the tools do the work.

I would seem to me that if only your fender was damaged by the accident and the insurance will cover it that do that. What does that have to do with the rust on the rest of your car? If you have rust in THAT FENDER then holpefully the rust in THAT FENDER will be taken care of. It's not the insurance company's job to restore your car.

We have a similar difference. (one of my son's terms) I was born in Portland, Oregon. We moved to So Cal when I was 5 and I've been here ever since.

I think those commercials are on the 'Courtesy Nissan' FSM cd.

ScoHo, you scored! Remember I pm'd you about this car? Is it from where I said it was? The more I thought about it, the more I remembered. I have seen this car at the shop I mentioned and at a couple of the So Cal shows. It is ZWEET! (Thanks, Vicky!) I considered buying it when they were selling it for 16K.
  21. Keep us posted on your progress. When I bought my 78 in 1997, after I replaced a clogged gas tank, the first thing I changed was that boot because it was split. The majority of my cars performance problems dissapeared at that point. After a good tune up, and a fuel injection relay I was on the road and have been ever since. After reading what wal280z said, I checked the AFM/ECU combinations on my Z and my 810. They are both matched sets. I don't know if that clarifies anything but at least on those two cars, they match. I think that the fuel cut off went into the ECU in 79 with the advent of the ZX. I say that because I recall helping a neighbor with a 79 and his car wouldn't even run when I plugged in one of my spare 78 ECUs. We went to the junkyard and bought an ECU with a number that matched his AFM plugged it in and the car ran.

Middle of the guage on a hot day is normal for a 78. That's where mine runs with the a/c on. I would replace the thermostat with a NISSAN thermostat rather than a Stant or whatever you get the local chain autoparts stores. We've discussed this in other threads. The Nissan thermostat has a larger opening than the others. If your car overheats only when you have a thermostat installed then either the thermostat is bad or it too high a temperature. Get a Nissan 180 degree thermostat
  23. I believe that in Australia it was the 910 series Bluebird in the early 80s.
  24. From my searches in the junkyards, it would appear that the bolt on brackets were only on the 80 to sometime in early 81 RWD Maximas. I don't know what month the cut-off is but I have seen 81s with both types. But I did notice that any Maxima with a 79 or 80 build date early enough to be called an 80 has the bolt on brackets. They seemed to change somewhere between 9/80 and 11/80.
  25. wal280z, I should have worded it diferently because I was mainly talking about 79 and up ECUs having the warning to not be used on 78 or earlier cars. I stated that 'warning' thing after mentioning 79 810s, ZXs, and RWD Maximas. I should have clearly stated that the warning was on those but I thought that would be unserstood.
