Same car almost 7 years later.

Well, that beats me. I paid $275 for my 78 in 1997. Including the purchase price I am still under the $2K mark.
  3. It's not an overall problem. In the area where I live, we have very few cellular towers (bad cell phone reception), we're too far from the nearest telephone switching station (longer phone lines=slower connections for regular phones and no chance for dsl), and underground cable (more difficult and costly to set up for cable internet). These are the things that the various company officials have told me over the 4+ years I have lived here. All I was was originally trying to say is that MY connection was slow. Looking through the responses, I wish I hadn't brought it up!:stupid:

Do you have 15 of the caps with the elephant that do not have the word OIL on them? (See next post)

Over the years, whenever I have seen an 'elephant' or other unusual oil cap I usually grab it. I have found mabye 30 or so elephant oil caps with the word OIL and only two without. I also have found three oil caps with only the word OIL with no other words or pictures. I believe the just plain 'OIL' cap was on the very first run of the 240 in 69 and maybe early 70. Mine was attached to a NISSAN 2400CC valve cover which I still have. There was a thread about the elephant oil cap sometime during the latter portion of last year. If you search 'elephant' I'm sure you'll find it. I would say the elephant cap without the word OIL would be the most rare.
  8. Okay, now the really are mine! Thanks again, Mike!
  9. The 14's are mine! As soon as I figure out when I can go pick them up. So, BACK AWAY FROM THE YOKOHAMAS!! LOL

Well, in my case now, I guess if I can have a 46 year old wife, why not a 26 year old car?
  11. Besides, I like your avatar!

I'm sorry, Chris. I should have been clearer about why I said that. It's not so much a comment on you avitar or anyone's large pictures. It was actually a comment on the poor phone lines and resulting slow connection speeds I have to deal with here where I live. I'm not trying to make anyone change anything because of my misfortune. When we move this summer, the first thing I'll be getting is some kind of broadband. I've had to live without it for four years now! Cheers.

After further research, I stand corrected. The f.i. cars have both a carbon canister and a 'liquid/vapor seperator'. Take a look at these two scans from the 1978 280Z FSM.
  15. No, I'm not suggesting that you change it. Where I live we do not have access to broadband. To make matters worse, we have fairly bad phone lines. The best connection I can get is about 33k. When I go to my brother's house and use his computer, things load almost instantly. It wasn't so much I was complaining about animated avitars or large pictures, more so that I was complaining about my connection. In a few months, we'll be in a different area and all will be good. Cheers.

Hey datto_240Z, your animated avitar sure slows up the page load for those of us who don't have broadband. Can't get it here where I live. Not just you, also any one with large pictures in their posts.

Try the link below. Yours is probably 240 Green Metalic or 302 Green Leaf Metallic since 303 Green Metallic (not shown) was only offered until 7/75. I believe this was offered by our own Michael Perdue. http://www.utdallas.edu/~perdue/paintcodes.html

Looking good!! It reminds me of the 70 and 72 Z's I owned back when I was too young to know what I had! They were both red but your steering wheel is on the wrong side!:classic:

I have never had a problem with the Z's I have owned and signifigant others/wives down through the years. The one I have now is the only one I've ever owned during a marriage. She goes to shows with me, she always gets an event t-shirt when they're available, and is supportive of my Datsun hobby. And to billramsey2002 though I may be an 'old fart' now, I had a wife when I was about your age, too!

I doubt that you'd be able to get them at the local auto parts stores. Try a Nissan dealer. They might have to order them.

Lowering blocks are for leaf springs. There is no 'good' way to lower a coil spring car without replacing the springs. You will also run into camber problems when you lower a Z but there are ways to correct that. Just don't use spring clips or heat or cut the springs.

The fuel injected cars have a 'carbon canister' instead. It is in a couple of pictures in the suppliment section of the Haynes book but they don't really mention it. I couldn't find it on the Z car microfiche but I did find it in my 1979 810 FSM. If you are fortunate enough to have a 280Z FSM it would be covered in there. It's the large round black canister in front of the fuel filter.

Sentra rims WILL NOT fit on a Z. The early Sentra and Pulsar (through 1986) had the same bolt pattern as a Z, 510 etc. But from 1987 on Sentras, NXs, etc. had that 4 on 100mm. The Z is 4 on 4.5" which is 114.3mm. Check out the attachment.
