I'm confused, I thought beautiful red 77 280Z in zrush's avitar was owned by Scott from Florida. I remember the car winning B.O.S. at the 2003 MSA show. I kind of remember talking to him at the show but I could be wrong as I am relying on my memory! Now that we can once again edit I just want to say MY BAD! I went back and looked on the MSA site and I see that the car is owned by Scott and Vicky.

Which Datsun dealer is credited with being the first in the U.S.A.?

According to the same brochure which is a 1978 not a 1977 like I previously stated, the fuel capacity is 17.2 gallons which I have also seen listed as 65 litres for our overseas Z-mates.

Just a follow up on my last post since I was unable to edit it for some reason. I have a 77 Datsun sales brochure and this is what it say about fuel economy for the 77 280Z: 49 States manual transmission: 18 city & 27 highway for the 2 seater and the same for the 2+2 49 States automatic transmission: 17 city & 23 highway for the 2 seater and the same for the 2+2 California manual trans: 18 city & 25 highway for both California auto trans: 18 city & 22 highway for both

The lowest mpg I've ever gotten in my 78 280Z was 15.05 mpg and that was before a tune up. It normally runs anywhere from 19.2 mpg (mostly city) to a high of 27.49 mpg (highway). I have a 1982 Maxima 5 spd with the slightly higher 5th gear and have had the speedometer calibrated. My 79 810 Coupe (L24E) has never done as well. 17.2-22.5 (city-highway)

Motorsport Auto sells a plastic chain wedge. It's part #60-9921 @$11.95.
  9. I think it's just a generational thing. At 53, I'm beginning to realize that we look at the ricers the same way our parents looked at the hotrodders.

Those pictures I scanned were from an old 'Petersen's Complete Book of Datsun'. Datsun once sold that wedge through their parts department. The one I use is made of hard plastic. I bought it years ago, back in my 510 days, at a Beck/Arnley auto parts store. I don't think they're in business anymore. I remember seeing a pattern somewhere on the web for making one of these but I can't remember where. It's a very useful tool. I learned that the hard way the first time I tore down my 510!

    Here is the second scan.

Look at these three pictures and you'll see how the chain wedge works.
  14. I agree with bottom no whale tail but lose the dark window tint and blacked out trim.

Sounds to me like the solenoid.

Looks like they only come in 5 bolt.

A 5 speed won't make the car faster per se but it will help with highway fuel mileage.
  18. I think the the buyer on the site you mention (I have also been following this) got what he deserved. He didn't ask enough (if any) questions about the car before purchasing it. I can't knock the seller (I won't name names). If you are making such a deal, it's up to you, the buyer, to investigate the claims of the seller. If that buyer takes the legal action that many have suggested, what would he gain? I won't make that car the one he wanted it to be and the cost of pursuing that course of action would never be recovered. Live and learn.

He was a character on the Andy Griffith Show. He was played by producer Howard Morris. He only appeared in 5 or 6 episodes and was also the Return To Mayberry movie. What is he famous for? Speaking in rhymes, throwing rocks, mysteriously breaking out of jail, singing the song 'Old Aunt Mariah', getting a 'diploma' from Opie's teacher Helen Crump who was also Andy's last girlfriend, getting kicked out of the army, stalking Charlene Darling, and ruining Mrs. Wiley's party although he did have a lot of fun with 'Romena' (Ramona) who I believe was Mrs. Wiley's niece.

I don't know if this will help, but it's another place to check. When I put a new console in my 78, I inadvertantly caught the wire for the ash tray light with one of the screws that holds the console in place. Evey time I turned on the lights, I'd lose that fuse.

Is a 20B a 2 litre rotary? We don't get those over here.

I wouldn't buy the fan clutch from Autozone. I had a bad experience with Autozone fan clutches. I bought one (for my 810) and it didn't work properly, car got hot. I returned it and they gave me another one. It also didn't work properly. I finally got one through Z Car Specialty in Upland, Ca. but I don't know where he gets them from but they work. Chloe didn't have one? I would trust MWZ, or the Nissan dealer, before I would trust any of the chain auto parts stores, especially when buying anything for a Z.

I owned a 1970 Datsun 1600 roadster for about 20 years. (1977-1997) I had the U20 (200cc) crank, rods, and pistons in it. You can do this to the later 5 main bearing R16 engine. I also had a set of the larger U20 SU's on it and a rather wild camshaft that was available back then (70's) from Datsun Competition (now Nissan Motorsports). The engine was balanced and blueprinted, the head was ported and polished, etc. I also had the 5 spd from a 2000 roadster. I believe that was the FSC571A trans. It was a lot of fun and I really miss it but I am happy with my Z. The roadster was a tinkertoy. Like I said it was fun but I spent a lot of time working on it.
