  1. Check out the thread entitled "this sure looks familiar".

Regardless of what I think of ZX's especially 2+2's, the loss of life, homes, and property in a fire or any other disaster is beyond tragic! This beautiful 66 roadster shown here belonged to Barrie Strachan and it was also lost in the San Diego wildfires.

I don't know where that site got the info but the tag on my 78 280Z says 170HP@5600RPM(SAE) as opposed to their 149HP@5600RM(SAE). My repair manual says 151HP@5600RPM for the L24 and 165HP@5600RPM for the L26 both of which also differ from that chart on geocities. I beileve that the difference is that up untll 1979, Datsun used the gross HP figure on the vin tag. From 79 on they used the net HP figure. The chart seems to list the net HP.

Is it just me or did the point of this thread drift a little? Or did it simply dissapear?

Steve and Scott: that is so wrong! (But I like it!)
  7. The American Ford Falcons, Mustangs w/4 bolt, Mercury Comets, etc. from the 60's do have the same bolt pattern as the Z, 510, Roadster, etc. I let a friend borrow the spare from my 1600 Roadster a few years ago to put on his 65 Ford Falcon. It fit with no problem. He never did return it!

From my experience, I am leary of buying Z parts from Autozone, Kragen, Pep Boys, etc. Especially when it comes to FI oriented parts. These parts are used on many other vehicles. The Thermotime switch, temp sensor, thermal transmitter, air regulator, cold start valve, etc. used on a Z are very similar to the one used on BMW's and other euro cars that have Bosch FI. The problem is that although the pieces look the same, their specs might be different. I don't think that the chain type auto parts stores know the difference. Better off getting those parts from a supplier that specializes in Z cars.

With all due respect I will abstain from voting on this poll. I'm really not a ZX guy. To each; his (or her) own!
  10. Sorry, Zs-ondabrain, I erred! Guess I can't blame it on the computer! I was just kind of scanning through the thread and I did'nt really read you opening line.
  11. Maybe it's a bit off the topic but we see these wings mainly on Hondas, Mitsus, etc. i.e. fwd cars. How important is downforce on a fwd car?
  12. Well, Mick, for me the line is 1978 for the last true 'Z' but for others I think it's 1973. That's just me, however, to each his own. I appreciate a nice example or most any vehicle, I just have my preferences for ones that I would own.
  13. I think many of us learned the 11:25 oil pump routine the hard way like I did back in my 510 days.
  14. Very well said, Carl!!
  15. How did the N47 get such a bad rap? I have two of them now. One on my 78 Z and one on my 79 810. They're both fine. I have seen cracked N47's but I have also seen many of the others cracked. I wouldn't necessarily single out the N47 because I've always had good luck with them.
  16. I don't know why he isn't an active member. I have seen him and his car around town as we do live in the same city but I've never actually spoken to him. I have also seen the car at some of the SoCal Datsun/Nissan shows. Nice car, but for my tastes, a bit overdone.
  17. I have read about and talked to many people about the 3.1 stroker. The consensus is that it has to be done 'right' (whatever that is) in order for it to work properly. They talk about overheating problems, they mention that you might not get the gain you would expect from the 300 extra cc's, etc. It seems to me that his list of modifications was designed more to impress rather than perform. I have come across many of these 'highly modified' Z's with blinding chrome and stainless steel that my stock 78 will outrun or at least keep up with. I would be leary about the fact that he is willing to drop 18 grand from his original investment.
  18. As Carl said, the wale tail never came on a 'Z'.

  20. The Sentra SER Spec-V is the latest SER. I'm not really into the fwd cars but I just wondered if anyone out there knew how they performed and how they compared to the WRX. The early to mid 90's Sentra SER's seemed pretty quick. Maybe I'll take a look at www.sentra.net
  21. How do these cars compare performance-wise to a Sentra SER-SpecV?
