Considering the design, that shouldn't happen unless the points are sticking or somehow damaged.

The full throttle contacts should be set to close only when the throttle valve is at full throttle. I think the book says something like more than a 34 degree opening of the throttle valve but that's pretty much the same as 'slammed to the floor' as you put it.
  3. But you responded anyway? Have it your way....I don't really get your logic anyway.
  4. What do you find divisive about the above post? To me, Alan was just 'needling' Carl as they 'sometimes' do to each other. It took you nearly two weeks to respond to E's comment so maybe you just need to stop trying to stir things up.

His is/was an 83 and according to your profile yours is an 82. Here's a link to a 1982 280ZX service manual. Maybe it will have what you're looking for: http://www.xenonz31.com/s130/files/82_datsun_280zx.zip
  6. One from 75 will work in a 75-77 but not in a 78 and beyond since the later ones don't have fuel pump contacts in the AFM.

IMO, those are worse! Don't much care for the Z28 type hood on a Z either.

If it ran fine before you changed the alternator how would anyone here know what you did to cause it not to start? Dredging up 7+ year old threads won't help either. Either do a search or retrace you steps......

Here you go; it really is quite a turnaround:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=280194&postcount=1

I don't think it was a new thread but he's the one that posted that one too!
  11. It's actually 'Little GTO' not 'My Little GTO' but in my mind that song has nothing to do with my car but rather the so called 'real' GTOs that were built in the 60s/early 70s. Here's what I said in 2007 when we did a similar thread. Nothing has really changed for me except my age and now I use a USB drive with an 8 GB SD card with I don't know how many songs on it: But I also love lyrics. There are musicians out there that are absolute poets and that sometimes gets lost in the music. I can't pin it down by saying I like any one particular kind of music. I like virtually everything that Hrududu listed and some of what others listed except WingZro. Sorry, bro. I'm just from a different generation. I never listen to radio stations when I drive, except when I drive my wife's car with her in it. All my car music is either on mp3 cd's or in an mp3 player.

Yep, Hybrid isn't too keen on the 'texty' type stuff or non-punctuated sentences, etc. They're likely to give you a hard time simply because you're question has been asked a million times in some form and the fact that you're 17....

    I'll take a guess: A 289 HP, 3.1L stroker?
  14. Don't be scared. It's way less complex than all of that requiring a simple two wire hook up. Been discussed many times here.
  15. You know, Jim, you're right. I had also done custom work to the rear of my 78 for the speakers/amp, etc. so maybe I'm just not remembering what it looked like stock. My setup could be removed easily and returned to stock by unplugging a couple of plugs, removing a couple of wing nuts and lifting the whole thing out.
  16. That's pretty much stock for a 78 except for those two bars which I believe come from a 280ZX.

Those will fit 1600 Roaster carbs, right?
  18. Same place but they've changed their website (and address) a bit since this thread was active. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page: http://www.zzxdatsun.com/catDecals.php
  19. Hard to say but based on the fact that he has 3 posts in 5 months on one of the GTO sites I go to (one was to advertise an event sponsored by Optima) and 6 posts in 8 months (one advertising the same event) on another, and hasn't been back in over 3 months on either one, I'd lean toward the latter........
  20. I've actually met Ben and used to see him at some of the Southern California car shows. But I haven't seen him for at least two years and he hasn't been on this site in a little over three years.

  22. I had a Pinto in the late 70s but my Pinto had a Racer Brown camshaft, twin sidedraft Delortos, head work, a light flywheel, etc. It screamed! Unfortunately it didn't hande a well as it ran as the guy that bought it from me wrapped it around a telephone pole in the hills above Pomona, Ca. and still walks with a limp to this day.....
  23. I replaced the original muffler on my 78 with a regular aluminized Flowmaster Turbo muffler and Monza tip. I did that in 1997 and it still in good condition and sounded good when I sold it last year.

Original poster......As far as a senior moment, perhaps I had one by responding to this thread in the first place. I should have known better.
