Datsun brand in 2014
There was always the one I referred to as my 'identity crisis' car - The 1981 Maxima/Datsun 810 by Nissan.

240z External Hard drive..
Same way you make a million dollars in just about any form of racing.......

My '77 Z Coupe dies on the road when I see the tach jumping between Redline and Zero
If it does turn out to be a bad module, a 77 module might be a tough find and somewhat pricey. You could do the GM HEI module conversion for much less money. I believe Sarah (FastWoman) converted hers so she should be able to supply the info.

Datsun brand in 2014
I mention the early 30s because Jim Johnsons 1936 Datsun Model 15 Phaeton, clearly badged 'Datsun' and built long before any were imported to the U.S, is the earliest Datsun vehicle that I've actually seen in person. We had taken my 64 Pickup to the show and it was usually the earliest Datsun in attendance but, in this case, it got edged out by a couple of decades.

240z External Hard drive..
I would be the first one to congratulate the person who becomes a millionaire by combining diecast 240Zs and external hard drives.

Datsun brand in 2014
Sarah, that's another one of those Datsun stories that makes me cringe when I hear it. The Datsun name had been around since the early 30s in Japan and solidly associated with Nissan. I would think they would have chosen a different name if that was the intent.

Yet Another Newbie...
Welcome! I was born in Portland (almost 62 years ago). My family moved to California in 1955. Been back there a few times; the most recent in 2002. Never owned an 80s bikes but I had a 1973 Kawasaki H1D (500cc 2 stroke triple) which was silly fast for it's time, and also a 1976 KZ900 (4 cyl 4 stroke) also very fast for it's time but somewhat heavy.

Cute..but that's the miserable little car in which Mr. K had trouble driving in US traffic if you recall the video.

Finally found a series 1 (56k beware)
That's a 73, not a series 1.

Conversion to EFI from Carb
I agree with everything you say about the old system except for the part about it being an "an antiquated and delapidated piece of junk". Antiquated; definately, dilapidated (you used the very common misspelling) would depend on the particular example. Aging, failing, changing components (or I believe the word 'drifting' has been used) are what eventually cause problems in these systems. With the unavailability of new parts, it's difficult to get one to run correctly. One of the reasons I sold mine. They were both low mileage examples the functioned as the factory intended. I never had the problems the I've seen reported here but I knew that in the future I likely would have. But in reality, Webers, S.U.s, Mikunis, etc. are also antiquated. But they are, arguably, easier to work with. I'm not really sure that installing all of the sensors, etc. required to run a modern system on an engine that is also, let me say it nicely, a part of history, would be the answer either. People have done it but it has is drawbacks also. If it has carbs keep it carbureated.

I just got the card in the mail today.

240z External Hard drive..
That's what I was thinking. That way, you wouldn't have to hack up the car. That being said, as much of a Datsun fan as I am, a Datsun bodied hard drive is really a bit much IMO.....

Tach with AFM built in
That's okay. I was just having trouble picturing how one would hook up the item your original title had me envisioning........

Early Valve Stem Cap?
I had some 'friends' back in the day that were similar pranksters. That's why I learned to carry a spare valve stem or two and one of those caps in my cars back then.

Tach with AFM built in
Oh, you meant AFR.....I was confused by the title of thread.

Conversion to EFI from Carb
@Bruce: As many times as you and I have needled each other (no pun intended) about the Old School EFI to SU thing over the years I wouldn't ever consider doing SU to EFI unless it was some type of modern EFI. Though I had some success with it, the old JECS system is tough enough to sort out as it was originally installed but a retrofit?????:tapemouth:ermm:

Can do this, and what’s that?
That coil will be fine as long as it's secure. As far as working with the electronic ignition, I ran the larger Accel Super Coil in my 78 for the 12 years I owned it w/no problems. That condenser is referred to as a 'radio condenser' in the wiring diagram. There's a black wire that comes from a tab under a screw on the disributor mount and plugs into that open bullet recepticle

76 possible electrical problem
He means a higher amperage output but if the regulator is bad, I'd just replace the regulator. To convert to an internally regulated alternator would be just that; a conversion, and would require other work.

Keep in mind that the 1997 Super Bowl follows the 1996 season.......That's where I remember seeing it. Then, as now, I'm much more of a football fan than a fan of the Olympics so I likely wouldn't have watched the 1996 ceremonies.

Well, at least I had the year right. But it was still marketing and it must not have fared too well. IMO, outside of the hobby, most people don't know what a Datsun is......

Competition Hood Vent for sale on Nashville CL
I see what you mean now, 5th. I hadn't clicked on the thumbnails until now, though the actual pictures aren't much better. That probably explains what appears to be hood pin holes in the corners. That hood is not worth $100 because it's basically scrap metal............
