A/C Idler Pulley Rebuild
Had one of those machine pressed bearings on my 810. Seems like Nissan randomly used those. Went to the junkyard, paid 5 bucks for one of the removabe type, put the new bearing in it, and swapped it out.

40th Anniversary Z Video
Let's be realistic here. That didn't happen because we're probably the only one's that would be interested in it. Remember the lengths they went to in order to distance themselves from anything 'Datsun'. Building a retro Z that 'captures the essence.....' would be counterintuitive to that. You can dislike the car they did decide to produce all you want but I don't think Nissan is listening or even cares about the relitively small following that wants to see some sort of retro S30. Other than in the clips that are inserted into the video, how many times do you even hear the word 'Datsun'? Here's a statement about the introduction/early days of the Z from that video:

Yes, you could but that would be a front air dam and this thread/poll/whatever is about a rear spoiler.

Body Twisting?
I saw that comment. I owned a 311 for 20 years and don't recall body flex being a problem. Other things, yes. I had that motor in and out a few times for things that wouldn't require that on a 'normal' car.

If I go, I hope no one minds talking to someone who doesn't even own a Z at present but has owned at least one Z or Datsun off and on for the last nearly 40 years. (I'll park my GTO or HHR down the street)

With those as the choices I'd also have to say no spoiler at all. I'm actually trying to envision you renderings on an S30. It's hard to tell on that rendition because, at least to me, it's not really indicative of an S30. The body lines aren't right. Looks more like a modern retro Z.

Auto change to Manual Tranny
Did anyone mention bypassing the neutral start switch? It's probably in the write up. I saw something about disconnecting the kick down valve which I think 'downshift solenoid' is actually what was meant but that would be gone when you remove the trans.

Japanese Car Show Article
I had a 68 Toyota Corona 2 dr hardtop 'back in the day' around my senior year in college. As I recall, I didn't pay much for it, something like $550 in 1972, and it looked and ran great. You don't see those too often anymore except at shows like this one.

Welcome. I used to visit the junkyards up that way when I did more junkyarding than I do now. There's the Ecology Auto in Adelanto on Alden Rd. off Hwy 395, the Pick a Part in Hesperia on Sante Fe Rd. off Bear Valley Rd., and the Pick and Pull on Gasline Rd. in Victorville near George AFB. I also lived in Pomona for about 15 years.

hello gang, got a sad update :(
Though for different reasons, about 5 months ago, I parted with my 280Z which I had owned for 12 years. You're going to miss it. I know that because I definately miss mine. I also was able to easily get my asking price. It does appear that people are buying now as Sarah says. A friend recently sold his El Camino and my cousin recently sold his Camaro both for their asking price.

Your present computer will work with the manual trans. There shouldn't be any injection issues.

radiator question
Nothing at all. That part of the radiator is complete seperate from where the coolant is. I had an auto trans radiator in my 78 which had a 5 speed. I'm pretty sure that's the only kind of radiator you can get for them anymore.

What fluid? It's just a copper coil that hooks to the auto trans lines and cools the trans fluid by circulating the fluid through the coil. There's no coolant in that part of the radiator.

Don't know about the drain plug but as far as the trans cooler lines you don't have to do anything to them as nothing will be running through them.

Maybe so, but it sure is fun! A stock LS1 puts out 350 hp. Slightly built it would easily top that. My daily driver, a 2005 GTO with an LS2 puts out 400 hp. I'm not what anyone would refer to as 'youthful' nor is my car 'miserable' to drive. But, like ezzzzzzz says, you'll need to put a lot of work into an S30 to have it, at very least, stay together much less hook up and/or handle.

floor jack
I have a 2 1/4 ton floor jack. It's not aluminum, it doesn't wobble when you use it, it hasn't ever leaked and I've had it for at least 10 years. It's a big, heavy, ugly orange thing that sits in the corner but never fails to perform when I need it. Don't get too caught up in the 'lightweight aluminum racing' part of the jack's description. Lightweight and 'one pump to the frame' really aren't important for home use, are they? The jack you have, the OTC jack and most others are not racing jacks. A real racing jack, which you don't need for home use, would cost considerably more. I'd rather just have on that works.
