  1. Tomohawk, does that answer your question?
  2. FSM quote: Done properly, the arrow on each shim will be point up which I guess also points in the direction of rotation. I never thought of it that way; seems somewhat redundant but remember that the comments in the FSM are Japanese to english translations/interpretations. As far as the Nissan tech being in error: shouldn't come as a real surprise...........there is a LH shim and a RH shim and you need two each to do both sides. The part numbers are 41084-A0100 (Shim-RH) and 41085-A0100 (Shim-LH).
  3. bartman, it has been a while since I've noticed you here. Enrique (EScanlon) hasn't posted since February this year, I have no Datsuns at present, but if memory serves me correctly (and that's always suspect!) I seem to recall 5 mm. as the gap when I re hung the doors on my 78. Not sure if that differs on a 240Z.
  4. The arrows indicate 'up' rather than rotation. One inner shim and one outer shim per side. They are mirror images of each other.
  5. sparrow6190, are you aware that you revived a thread in which the last post was on 01-26-2003? It's a pertinint topic, however. I've had a couple of cars stolen in my life. A 66 Ford Mustang GT and the 1978 280Z that I recently sold. The Mustang was found completely gutted and written off as a total loss while the Z only suffered slight damage to the console and the theft of the stereo which was all covered by my insurance (Hagerty) and repaired good as new.
  6. Are you just waking up old threads this morning? This one was dead for almost 8 months and the other for about 11 months.............
  7. I ran 87 in both the 1978 280Z (12 years), and the 1979 810 (6 years) with no ill effects when I had them.......
  8. Thanks for the acknowledgement. I didn't notice it on the 1st. You and I have had our differences over time and, while it wasn't a 'happy birthday', I'm somewhat surprised that you mentioned it at all. My comment here really has more to do with the 'among others'. Check out some of those names in the 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!' box especially the ones that you don't readily recognize. Most of them are people that joined at some point but have either never posted here or have just done a handful of posts and stopped. I know this is off topic but are those people included in our membership count?
  9. Bob, that was two years ago. I'm sure Jason has fixed it by now..............

I'm sure you'll get the engine managemant sorted out. Sounds pretty healthy! I know that my LS2 would have outrun any of the musclecars I had back in the day, stock vs. stock. I believe an LS1 would also. From what I understand, the Audi has 420 hp. How heavy is it?

Sorry for jumping to that conclusion. I'm actually relieved that you're not doing that swap. Hybrids aren't really to my tastes. Since I thought that was what you wanted to do, I tried to link you to the only example I know of. The Canada guys will steer you in the right direction. I've always been a fan of Camaros. I once owned a 68 RS/SS 396. How do you like that LS1 in your Camaro? I recently bought a 2005 GTO and love the LS2 that's in it. I guess I don't have to tell you how sweet that R8 is! Get us some pictures of the Z when you can.

Carl, #1 should be ammended to read 'fuel tank from a 75-76 280Z' since the later tank wouldn't fit the 240Z. At least I don't think it would. I owned a 78 for all those years and having seen the fuel tank I just don't think it would fit.

    Did you notice this revision?

Welcome to the site. Let's see: no actual photo of the car you're referring to, but it's in Pennsylvania at your uncle's house, your uncle dissassembled it in the 80s, you're in Ontario, Canada, your dad is in Poland, and the two cars you posted pictures of really don't have anything to do with any of this other than just to 'show us what you got', the car has sentimental value to your dad and, with that thought in mind, it would be okay to put an engine in it that didn't even exist when the car was dissassembled and comes from an American car? Sorry for my digression. I was just trying to take that all in. The only person I have have knowlege of that has done such a swap is 77ZETA, who is, or more accurately, was a member of this site. I say it like that since he hasn't posted here since 08-18-2006. And he's from California so that should fit right in the rest of the complications. Here is his CarDomain site: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/438021 Copy and paste those videos to your browser window, they do work. Good luck!
  15. Those are the two that go on the side. To be 'complete' I guess you'd also need the one that goes on the bottom of the shifter altough those ususally hold up fairly well. They're all available through the Nissan dealer. At least they were last time I checked. You need two side bushings (32855-H1010) and the one for the bottom of the lever (32861-N4200). They cost roughly $2.50-3.50 ea. depending on the dealer.

    Where that at?
  17. I've done a few of them over the years. The first one I did with absolutely no experience. I just followed the manual. The others became successively easier for the experience. But then, I've always been kind of fearless when it comes to things like that. For the most part I've been lucky. Transmissions weren't one of the things I ended up ruining before I learned how to deal with them. (I still won't touch an automatic, however). If you're fairly confident in your mechanical aptitude type skills, I'd say try it. If not, a trans shop would likely be your best bet.

Go to this site and input the seller's name and you'll get just his negatives and neutrals: http://www.toolhaus.org/ For this individual, Reddat, you'll see that it's an extensive list: http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=reddat&Dirn=Received+by&ref=home

Oh yeah, I remember those. 15 x 10 most likely. Saw them a lot on musclecars 'back in the day'.
  20. sblake01 replied to scalveg's post in a topic in Open Discussions
The California law is that cars six or less model years old for original owners, four or less model years old on a transfer, or 1975 year model or older do not need to be smog tested.
  21. sblake01 replied to texasz's post in a topic in Wheels & Brakes
I believe that Carl was referring to these wheels. Which I believe were the 81 280ZXT wheels.
  22. sblake01 replied to scalveg's post in a topic in Open Discussions
The law is somewhat vague. You can read it that way, i.e. that it's the buyer's responsibility but due to the fact that all car sales in California are considered to be 'as-is' unless otherwise stated, the buyer will always end up having to get it smogged in order to complete the change of ownership. The seller generally speaking can wash his hands of all of that as soon as the paperwork is completed. All of that being said, congratulations on your purchase. You'll enjoy her as I enjoyed my recently sold 78 for almost 12 years. One nice thing about them is once everything is dialed in they'll always pass smog. Mine never failed a smog test in all the years I owned it.
