  1. What am I talking about? I might be spending $17000-$18000 today
  2. The differential arrestor strap can look 'okay' but be stretched. That's how mine was when I replaced it; looked good but had too much play due to age. They were available when I bought mine in 1999. Don't know what could be used as an alternative but I really don't think leather would hold up.
  3. Would they really be worth that much? Over $1200 incl. shipping?
  4. Dzus.

Is there anyone at your local Nisan dealership that is familiar with Datsuns? I know it sounds like a strange question but I know from talking to the guys here at Nissan of San Bernardino that it wasn't too tough for me to determine that none of the technicians there really know much about them. If I had tested the FPR and found it faulty, I'd be insistent with the parts manager about replacing it, without further testing.

He wasn't serious before? As I recall, he wanted $19.5K before(!). I wonder what his reserve is now.
  7. Well...you didn't mention that.
  8. Or that the temperature sensor isn't properly adjusting the mixture during the time the temp is higher...don't know, I've never experienced the rough running part.
  9. I had a 78 for years that I recently sold. With mine, the temperature would be higher than normal under the conditions you described, especially on hotter days, but never what I'd call 'way high' and would always return to normal after 60 seconds (or less) of running. That's pretty much normal operation. But mine never ran rough under those circumstances. Nor has my 810 which is basically the same setup, both do have A/C and I'm also in SoCal.

I also know stories similar to Arne's here in California.

Tyrone, he wouldn't have carbs being a US market 78. Obviously, the second problem (running really rich) would most likely come from something that was done during your cleaning/replacing of grounds. What you initially described could be anything from a bad temperature sensor, a bad fuel filter, a clog somewhere in the fuel system, etc. Did you test the fuel pressrue at any point?
  12. There are notches at the top of the intake ports on the EFI heads that don't exist on the non EFI heads. The EFI manifold might be a direct bolt on to the E31/E88 head that is likely on your 240Z engine but would not work without those notches.

I just don't think that would indicate a faulty FPR. By pinching the line, you're actually bypassing the regulator, at least that side of it. The FPR actually uses intake manifold vacuum and the pressure from the fuel pump and creates a differential pressure between the two (36.3 psi). Pinching the return line would naturally cause a rise in the pressure reading just by the nature of how the FPR works. Think about it.
  14. 240Z heads wouldn't have the notches for the fuel injection.

Bob, I saw that also and I don't know where that test comes from. I waited to comment on that until I did some checking myself. Just before I sold my Z I checked it. The fuel pressure was in the the range it should be, roughly 36psi. I clamped the hose and the pressure went up. Ran the same test on the 810, same results. Pressure doesn't bleed off on either car. I actually think that test confirms that the FPR is functioning since you are basically bypassing it by clamping the hose. The only thing I see in the FSM as far as a functional test of the FPR: The only test I know of that involves squeezing the hose is for the air regulator. I don't want to argue with ChrisB77's findings but my personal experience (at least 25 years) and everything I've ever read seems to contradict them.
  16. Oh, I'm definately looking for an 05-06 (LS2) not an 04 (LS1). The exhaust setup is nicer on the later ones also, one pipe on each side rather than two on the left as on the 04. I guess I'll have to live with the hood.
  17. Not really replying to him. Just stating an opinion. I'm entitled to as he is. And, believe me, I do consider the source. At least three other people reacted to his crap, and that's exactly what it is, crap. I'm not the only one. Yes, lets get back to cars. I think I understand the market that cars like the Cube, Element, XB, etc. are intended to reach, I'm just not part of that market. As far as the horspower thing, even if you won't use it 99% of your driving, it's nice to have there it should you want or need to use it. I'm basically doing what Jack T. is talking about. That is, reducing the number of cars. Same scenario, 3 vehicles, a pickup, a 2 seater and a 2 dr hardtop. basically the same total seating capacity he spoke of. Those 3 will be replaced with one vehicle. But this time I want the HP!
  18. TomoHawk's been at that for the entire time he's been a member of this site. Every now and then I call him on it but it does no good. You'll just get madder and madder. He won't even answer once things get too hot. PM'ing him to tell him how you feel is also a waste of time because he won't answer those either. What was his quoue? Something like: Sorry if I got a couple of the words wrong, Tom (Tomo?-what is your name, really?), I'm going from memory but that's the general gist of what you said on your website. If that's really how you feel you shouldn't post those sentiments on a public forum because your remarks seem to be designed to generate comments.
  19. Try harder........
  20. Good to know that I'm not the only one that disagrees with his logic. You guys had me worried last week with that 'rice season' thread. GEEEZ!!!!!
  21. Notice that I didn't say anything about the Cube. I guess I was trying the 'if you can't say anything nice' routine. I will say that you couldn't give me on of those. But that goes for most of the 'modern' styled vehicles, Scion, Echo, Yaris, anything built by Chrysler, etc. Just not my style and never will be. That GTO is kind of a reach for me styling wise and if it wasn't for what's underneath that skin........
  22. Well, that's all true but I owned cars back in those days that had more hp than that. I've had Chrysler Hem powered cars, small and big block Chevys, etc. Don't know if it make me 'jaded' but I have the desire to own a 400+ hp car again. Maybe just because I can. I've only had two tickets in my life, no accidents, and I take driving very seriously. It is 'total insanity' as you say. Nobody 'needs' 400+ hp in a street driven car. But that's what I want (again).
  23. Have you received any responses?
  24. Don't you drive a Japanese car?EDIT: Sorry, Mike. Didn't see your last paragraph. But how can you be certain where the money you spend goes? I'm afraid you're supporting several economies as are all of us.
  25. Richard does mention Carquest.
