There is no PCM (Powertrain Control Module) in a 76 or any other 280z. You changed out the ECU and I think Nissan was over-descriptive in calling them that! Pardon my digression. Did you use an ECU that is compatible with your vehicle?
  2. Depends on what you want. I doubt if Harbor Freight's stamp set would match what Nissan used either.

I never drove my cars to work (when I was working). Not the ones that are insured by Hagerty. I could have but why? I was going to work. In my mind, that is just not a pleasure drive regardless of what you do/did for a living.
  4. They were. Sports mirrors were available as over the counter or dealer installs since 1972 if not earlier as they are shown in the '240Z Coupe 1972 Accessories' brochure. Datsun dealerships also sold the plastic ones later. So I'll now amend my quote since we've added a 240Z to the mix: That should cover it.......
  5. Those were part of the Special Decor Package(Zzzap)/Specal Appearance Package(BPE) as well as at the Datsun parts counter rather than a separate factory installed option. So, like I said earlier:
  6. Not quite true. All US market 280Zs came with only a driver's side mirror with no other factory option. The only way that any US market 280Z, 75-78 would have a passenger side mirror would have been as a dealer installed or aftermarket option. dga, I'm not sure if the Canadian market was different.

Yeah for wheels that were on the car 9 years ago.......

I thought we answered this in the other recent thread. As well as in Tomo's other threads on this subject over the years. Note that the manual is not curled up.

That is still a 280Z console. My 78 has the slot as well. It has a blanking plate where the choke lever would be. The 260/280Z console is considerably differnent from the 240Z console. 240Z: 260/280Z:

Looks like a 280Z console to me also except for that 'plug n chug' cup holder (or whatever it's called) but this statement probably explains that:
  11. Not a picture of the plug but this comes in handy if you want to check the functionality of the ignition switch itself at the particular key positions:

I guess I should have used smiles in my post...I was just being facetious :)

How do you know it's unintentional? Some of us old timers are up to date. Although, I'll admit that whenever I show any of that it's probably because on being around my 28 yr. old son.
  14. He answered that earlier: What would correct the pinging would be a P79 or P90 head since it sounds like you have an F54 block.
  15. I'm still trying to understand the crux of this thread. If it's simply a question of 'Where do you keep your Owners Manual?' which appears to be the question looking at the name of the thread, then the answer is: in the glovebox. That's the hands-on copy that I actually use. I do have a perfect one that is in my desk drawer with along with any Datsun literature that I desire to keep in that type of condition. If the question is 'Does it fit in the glove box', then the answer is: yes. 78 glovebox, 78 owners manual, end of story (one would hope).
  16. Well.....you 'bubble bursted' me, I had no choice but to 'young whipper snapper' you:).
  17. My systems are better than marginal. There are some tricks I use on the old school systems to get them to perform better. I really hope that Derek doesn't take offense either. I'm just going with what has worked for me and I think I have a pretty good track record.
  18. Sounds like you read alot. But you're not telling me anything I haven't also read. I use lined hoses and replaced all seals and o-rings and tested the system for leaks. (w/nitrogen-72 hr. vacuum test). Would you like me to explain the conditions that it would take to have the 152a's flamability become a problem? You'd be in deeper sh!t because of some of the other chemicals in the vehicle long before 152a would ignite. We need to let this go, however, because I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm just telling you what my experience has been.
  19. You are correct with 'sleight' rather than how I spelled it. Not a cool evening however. It's done prior to the underhood temperature being at the point where the engine is at operating temp. Fan speed or air control lever position really wouldn't make much, if any difference. This is actually a cycling test. The average temp for this car is between 35-41 degrees at the center vent under 'normal' conditions.
  20. Thank you for that (on both notes) but I do know what I'm doing. No unsolicited advice/education necessary, thank you. I've been an HVAC and MVAC tech since the mid 80s. Or, to put it another way, if you're profile is accurate, I've been doing it longer than you've been alive. Those readings are kind of 'slight of hand'. The temp doesn't actually stay at that point. Those readings are taken at the point where the temp switch kicks out the compressor. It does take a few seconds for the temp to stop dropping, stabilize and return to above freezing so that the comp. will resume. The system does not stay below freezing and no ice forms. I can actually make any vehicle, regardless of what type of ac system it has, show a below freezing reading as long as everything is working properly if you get the reading at the right point. It doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with the system. Your argument for not using R134a in an R-12 system is a valid one due to the higher pressures it requires to perform and the smaller size of the R134a molecule but Freeze-12 actually runs at lower pressures than R-12 and I've had no problems with it leaking out. The systems in my 810 and Z aren't 'brand spanking new' but they have been working properly for well over a 'couple of years' without any leaking or loss of peroformance.
  21. 52 degrees where? This is what my 810 reads at the center vent so I think yours could be cooler. The only mods to my system are a condenser fan and Freeze12 refrigerant. Notice that the fan speed is only on the second setting. This car will freeze you out!

I used to think that was the place that 'The Band' was singing about back in the day. Wrong part of the country though because the Cripple Creek they sang about was 'Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico, to Lake Charles, Louisiana.'
  23. Maybe we should ask AR280z........
  24. I know that.......
  25. Ha, ha.....and just where would those shops be? Then or now?
