  1. Search Datsunparts or Datsunparts.com on this site. (or other Datsun sites)
  2. Remember, ZSaint is talking about a 280Z (actually 260Z-280Z) not a 240Z mirror. That being said, I wouldn't buy anything from Datsunparts.com but that's a whole 'nother story........
  3. I looked at ZX mirrors when I was looking for mirrors for my 78. ZX mirrors aren't angled right for an S30. Too bad because they're power mirrors. The stock door mirror is a single stud mount with a locating peg IIRC.
  4. There is no stock passenger side 280Z mirror; that is, one the matches the stock drivers side mirror. We've been over that a few times over the years. I even had the idea of trading with someone in a RHD country but they use a different style of stock mirror.
  5. Unlike the 75, 76, and 77, the alternator is part of the fuel pump control system on a 78. Whatever the problem your alternator had was apparently causing it to send the signal that ordinarily would require the ignition switch to be in the on position.
  6. I think was zbane means is don't buy it. I wouldn't unless I already had one and needed a parts car. Those are somewhat pricey to work on and you could buy a fairly clean running one for less than you'd invest in this one to get it to that point. About 6 years ago, I bought a running 86 300ZX for $1200, did brakes and a starter and sold it for $2K 3 months later.
  7. He never said that his tax group pays 50%. What he said was that, in California, before the economy fell apart, that 1% of taxpayers paid 50% of the taxes that came in here. He never said that it was 'his tax group'. Whether or not he fits in that group would be subject to interpretation, but the group of "self-entitled monsters" he describes definately exists. If someone else had said this maybe it wouldn't have ruffled as many feathers but it's really more about the message than the messenger.
  8. I believe that Carl, the man whose post you quoted, from over six years ago , rest his soul, was speaking of the Nissan L24, L26, and L28 in that particular case.
  9. -double post, sorry-
  10. I recall reading here a few years back about someone who thought you could fill if form there.....
  11. As some would say, "he nailed it!"
  12. There actually was a dip stick on the column shift 4 speed in the 320 pickups. There's a roughly 4" rubber plug in the floor that allowed access to the dipstick......
  13. Oh, one other thing that kind of got lost in the shuffle. About the brass bushings. I tried those a couple of times and in my experience, thery're fine until they start to wear. Brass, being a rather soft metal, they then begin to loosen and vibrate and that metal against metal vibration is worse than when the nylon/plastic ones begin to wear. At least, that was my experience....Drove me nuts and I went back to the oem type. YMMV....
  14. I should have seperated that into paragraphs. The statement beginning with 'This is Sarah's thread...' was a generalization; not specifcally directed at anyone. I'm done with this one.....
  15. I've rarely 'topped off' the oil level on any vehicle I've owned except for the few I owned that either 'used' or leaked oil. So, yes, in most cases I would do an oil change and use the recommended amount of oil and not really worry much about it between oil changes. With differentials/transmissions we're talking about much longer intervals than engines obviously so, unless the trans or differential was leaking or showing so other sign of low oil/lube the only time I'd bother with them is when I did a diff. or trans. service in which case I'd drain them before I'd refill them. This is Sarah's thread and it needs to get back to her topic. All I did was state what the manual says about capacity. I didn't ask for any technical advice nor is anyone bound to approach that area of their vehicle(s) as I do. In fact, I don't think I've ever asked for technical/mechanical advice in my 10k+ posts here.
  16. I can recall having that argument some years ago. I wasn't trying to start it again; simply saying what the manual says capacity wise. Also listed under 'approximate refill capacities' is engine oil and I've never added any more than the FSM says except on my roadster which had an aftermarket deep oil pan. I actually don't see where it says to fill to the plug in either the manual trans section or the general info section. Now, I'm talking the 280Z FSM not the 240Z FSM. If it does, you don't need to show me because, at this point in time, at least for me, it's a moot point.
  17. Actually, there is a prescribed amount according to the FSM. I believe it's 4¼ pt. for the 5 speed and when I'd fill them with that amount it didn't reach the fill plug.
  18. That Airtex/Delphi aftermarket fuel pump could be part of the problem also......

They could also be Holley 5200's (Pinto carbs). They will fit the same manifold as a Weber 32/36 DGV and were fairly plentiful back 'in the day'. Hard to tell with the air cleaners on........
  21. If it isn't running, how would you know what the throwout bearing sounds like?
  22. Your VIN is over 11000 later than mgood's VIN and his is a 76.....
  23. Perhaps it's content of the story that sparked that reoponse rather than the story itself.......just sayin'

    It's not a Hot Wheels..........
  25. I quit taking my 280Z to work when it got stolen in 2002.
