The fact that it fires up immedaitely makes me think that the cold start valve/thermotime switch are okay. Sound more like it's not retaining enough fuel pressure and having to fill up the fuel rail before it will stay running. This is usually caused by a bad check valve or leaking injectors,

Why would their be a factory boost guage for an S30? There was never a factory turbocharged S30.

Allow me to state here that I don't believe the article I posted. I realize that it's mostly author/lawyer speak. I posted it for the purpose of reading the responses that it has generated. It helps me and others to better understand and get a more accurate view of what really took place in those days. No matter how many times it gets discussed, I find it a fascinating topic.
  4. Then you must have these. The one I posted was for a 260Z(sorry). According to the fiche, the top two are dual filament and the bottom two are single. Couple that with what Arne posted.

I have read much on the subject and the only thing we'll most likely agree on is that Goertz didn't design the 240Z as has been stated many times. What the 'truth' actually is, I doubt we'll ever know. But it sure makes for interesting discussion. I read the article that I posted as some truth, some speculation, and simple repetition of misguided facts. Different set of words but the same basic feel. As Moonpup said, the B.S. continues into yet another year.
  6. That's why I put the word correct in quotes. My illustration seems to validate how Richard's brake lights work. Either the picture from the manual is wrong, or all three configuration were used because I've seen 240Z's that light either one, two, or all three lights as brake lights.
  7. 'Nice' response.
  8. Yours sounds 'correct' and the others are modified. People did that to have more light showing when you apply the brakes.

From an article wirtten by Karl Ludvigsen in the March 2007 Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car magazine: I apologize for the spelling of "Silvia" but that was taken directly from the article.

A 280Z trans and a 280ZX (77-79) are the same trans. The 1980 and up trans has a higher first, second and fifth gear ratio with the 81-83 having a slightly higher fifth gear.

Here ya go, Will: In Heaven There Is No Beer (Public Domain/Finch) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Heaven there is no beer (No beer?!) That's why we drink it here And when we're all gone from here Our friends will be drinking all the beer. In Heaven there is no wine (No wine?!) So we drink till we feel fine And when we leave this all behind Our friends will be drinking all the wine. In Heaven there is no fear (No fear) So we worry too much here And we drink ourselves full of beer To help us when we deal with the fear. In Heaven there are no drugs That's why we hang with thugs And when the Lord pulls the plug All the thugs will still be selling drugs, yeah. Thugs and drugs Beer... In Heaven there is no sex (Oh no!) So let's do that next And when our muscles no longer flex Someone else will be having sex. In Heaven there are no wars Or cars, or movie stars And when we no longer are The world will probably still be having wars. What the heck! Yeah! Sex and war, Bars and cars. Drugs, thugs, And delicious food.

I have no expericnce with them other than sending a request when I was trying to find a windshield for my 810. I never received a response.

I'd replace that cutting blade first and experiment with something other than double side car keys before I'd trust it.

Your locksmith was afraid of those blanks because of the parrallel center grooves and probably couldn't get them to line up with the original because of it's offset center grooves. Believe me, it can be done if you have the right kind of key cutting machine. I work at a hardware store and we have two machines. An automatic one and a manual one. The manual machine actually works better for these older keys and if the locksmith knows what he's doing it can be done. I've done it and the keys do work and I'm no locksmith. Just a hackin' hardware store key cutter and, believe me, there's a big difference.
  16. The area I highlighted in your post is not a function of the throttle switch. What you describe is what the auxiliary air valve does. Look at these two attachments.

I know that they did as of 6/14/06 because that's the last time I ordered some from nissan parts cc. Give them a call. 1-866 754 5500

You have to order the blanks.

I stand corrected after doing further research. I guess I was being tunnel visioned since we didn't get a U.S. Stanza badged model until 1982. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Stanza

Rather a moot point if he has already removed the bumpers and welded up the holes etc. but I think that he's probably talking about the rubber end caps rather than the over riders. Courtesy doesn't have them nor does any other Nissan dealer.
  22. You wouldn't need to shorten the driveshaft in either case. The trannys are the same length. Even if you had the earlier slightly forward differential you'd already have the matching driveshaft.

Yeah, we got a version here of just about every Datsun that the rest of the world did except for the Skyline and a lot of the commercial vehicles.

Here's an alternative to the 'no-class' locksmith blank. I know these aren't the original type, and I'm not sure if they work on a 240Z, but these are what I use as spares on my 280Z (KEY00-00056) and my 810 (KEY00-00055). They're both still available through Nissan.
  25. That Datsun watch is a classic! I owned one 'back in the day' but it quit working after a couple of months.
