Front Pulley removal
There is supposed to be a key. A Woodruff key is what it's called. Actually there are three. One for the timing chain gear, one for the oil pump gear, and one for the pulley. They're all the same any you only need the front one. 00926-51600 is the part number and last time I needed one (8/04) the Nissan dealer had them. It's a 5x16 woodruff key if you want to try a hardware store but I think you'd be better off with OEM.

'70 Rust-Free Arizona Z Going Cheap!
Nowhere in the add does the seller state 'rust free' but from what the pictures show it doesn't look too bad. Like Carl said, you can't see the frame rails, floorboards etc., but what the heck! Being listed in 'manuals and literature', someone will get this car fairly cheap.

l26 in 240k
There are front sump and rear sump L6 engines. The pickups are different in that they mount in different locations on the bottom of the block and would require machine work to change one to the other. The rear sump engines were mainly in the S30/S130 cars while the front sump engines were in the sedans 810/910 etc. This is due to the difference in the steering set ups. I'm speaking from my experience with US cars.

This must be a joke!
Or this one which keeps showing up on eBay and never sells partly due to the price and the fact that he doesn't seem to know what it's really for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-L6-240Z-260Z-810-L24-L26-4-barrel-carb-manifold_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36474QQitemZ8064000945QQrdZ1

Jeanne, I bumped this thread so that hopefully you'd see it before it dissapears.

Blower Switch Problem
You should take a look under there. The two gears have to be properly meshed to get all fan speeds and the off position. Might be an easy fix.

Poor mans cold air intake
First of all, I wouldn't use a 3" tube. Remember that's the inner diameter. The outer diameter is even larger. I used a 2.5 inch aluminum tube which is just slightly smaller than 70mm in outer diameter. Aluminum doesn't stretch or shrink as easily as steel tubing. With the minimal amount I had to have my 2.5" tube sweged, it fits snug without having to stretch that nearly 30 year old rubber duct.

Question about '74 260Z bumpers...
For whatever reason, the 260Z with the large bumpers is still referred to as a 74 even though it came out so late in the year. I've seen them registered as 75 but all the manuals, literature, etc. seem to see them as late 74.

It wasn't a 'TRY'. That is the way a 77-78 280Z factory radio works. You push in on the SW-VOL-TONE knob to turn it on and to turn it off. If yours doesn't work that was and it is indeed a factory radio, then something is wrong with it. Try removing the knobs and pushing the shaft. Sometimes the inner knob (which Nissan refers to as 'outer side knob #8) has been installed backwards which prevents the outer knob ('inner side knob' #9) from moving inward when you push it.

Question about '74 260Z bumpers...
Actually the late 260Z came out in 9/74 because Nissan was running behind in the development of the 280Z which didn't come out until 12/74.

Interested in the Pinks Z: Want the motor? Details within...
I'm not here to argue; I just gave my opinion as to why there's been so little response to this thread. Hybrid Z, or similar sites might appreciate it more. Again JMO.

I really don't, and apparently not many others here, see how supporting the "Pinks Z" supports the Z community. Maybe the 'Cremmenga' or the 'CRider1998' types but not the average person here.

2006 MSA Z Nationals
Ah, Mr. Vircelli's FJ20 powered roadster. Used to have Toyota Mikunis on it but with the S.U.'s he says it gets over 30 mpg (!) and runs better. He must have done some serious driving that weekend! I saw him at Solvang on Saturday. He's quite a craftsman and the car is a mechinacal masterpiece!

last meeting at the Datsun building?
I'll be there also. I always like the opportunity to get together with the guys and talk Datsun. I wasn't aware that this was the final meeting at the Nissan HQ.

well
I don't hold to the accepted thinking that flat tops are junk. Though it's been years, a friend of mine who still runs a Z shop to this day, found ways to make them work. The parts may not be available today, but those carbs were used in quite a few high performance applications in other parts of the world. Here, they were a smogged down, poor performing version of what was basically a good carb. Some of the Datsun/Nissan Competition catalog performance packages were based on flat top carbs. Not trying to open up a debate since there probably isn't much you can do with a flat top today, but there was a time.

What kind of 5-speed is this?
One way to tell is that the later ones (81-83) only have one mounting ear back below the the shifter on the left side of the trans. The one in the picture you posted has two mounting ears back there and one of those is broken but it's definately an early trans.

What did the Frt License plate frame look like?
They didn't have a frame, except in Canada. There are four holes, two for the Japan size plates and two for the smaller plates. The plate bolts or screws directly to the bumper.
-
well
73 240s also came with flat tops. If the vin begins with an 'R' it's a 260 as in RLS30XXXXXX.

Series I 240z mirrors
Those appear to be the mirrors that were available at the dealer as an option back in the 280 and maybe 260 days and if so, they were the same ones used on the BPE and the Zzap. My car has them. The original owner says that they came with the car as did the rear louver and rear spoiler. Many of the dealers would 'dress up' the cars. That's how cars like the famed 'Seattle Z-hawk' came to be.
-
well
Front turn signals wont confirm anything. If it has smaller bumpers it could be an early 260 or any year 240 to the untrained eye. The turn signals didn't move into the grille until 9/74 but that would still be a late 260 because the 75 280 wasn't introduced until 12/74.

Door window removal ?
Some of the parts must have been already removed from the junkyard car or the glass wouldn't have come out that easy. The procedure (in the FSM) for removing the door glass is more complicated than that. Haven't done it for years but I recall it involving much more than removing those two bolts.

Weren't those (in the first post) designed to go on the fenders?
