I'm sure that Shane means 'camshaft'. I use a long breaker bar and socket on the crankpulley bolt. With that against the ground it holds the engine in place while you torque the cam bolt.
  2. I have 'Silverstar's' on both my 78 280 and my 79 810. They haven't caused any problems on either of my cars.

Do you have the system in post #3? With the York compressor?

Push the volume control. IIRC that turns it on and off. The one with the up and down arrow raises and lowers the antenna. It's been a while but I once had the original radio and antenna in my 78.

If the drive gear is 'perfect' and the distributor still won't line up, either the mounting plate is the wrong one (I don't know about the L6 but the L4 had a couple of different ones) or the drive gear is not 'perfect'. You're most likely going to have to move that oil pump until you get the proper relationship between it and the distributor.

If you've had the engine apart, you probably don't have the oil pump shaft installed it the correct position to allow your distributor to align properly. That's basically the same thing Z-ya said.

Through a conversation with one of the representatives from Lucas Oil Products a few years back, I learned that their Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer contains ZDP which I'd never heard of up until that conversation. He said that it was expecially necessary for older cars. That was some years ago and the next time I heard of it was in your post.

Recently, the antenna cable in my 810 snapped rendering the antenna useless. I was able to find not one but two OEM antennas on eBay. I was in the midst of waiting for one auction to close when another one popped up! I bought them both and they were reasonably priced. New in factory box, never used.

And heres a picture of a fairly typical 'York' dealer installed/aftermarket system:

It involved cutting a hole in the side of the blower housing and mounting a duct that was part of the evap housing. I've seen it done several different ways depending upon the installer. Here's a couple of pictures courtesy of some of our members that they've gracioulsy allowed me to use for my Z MVAC research.
  12. Actually, there are 5 oil pans but whatever you do, don't get one from an 810 or RWD Maxima. As similar as the engines look, the L24E has a front sump oil pan because of the different steering setup on those cars.
  13. There wern't many Zs at Solvang, after all it was a roadster show and I didn't want to flood this site with pics of all of the sweet roadsters as much as I love them. Anyway here's a couple of nice Zs that showed up.
  14. I don't know if you can put an overall label on a person based on the vehicle they drive. What the the public consensus be on people that drive Z's? Nor can you say that everyone that has an SUV bought it because it was 'cool'. Nor that they're all driven by 'yuppies' (what the hell is a yupppie anyway?).
  15. I talked to Steve at Solvang on Saturday. You guys are going to be dazzled and amazed by his 'creation'! I won't give it away here but you'll see it soon enough.
  16. Just out of curiousity, which wire was it? What color?
  17. But really, what can you do? The prices won't change my driving habits, it'll just cost more to drive. Just got back from Solvang, 418 mi. round trip! I have four vehicles, and yard equipment to fill up too.
  18. Take lots of pictures! I'll most likely miss MSA this year because of the roadster show in Solvang. In fact we'll probably pass Ben somewhere on the road Saturday morning going in opposite directions.
  19. Daisey and I will be there Vic. We're driving up this morning in the 810 to see the show.
  20. I finally have a bracket I like. It's 3/8" wide 1/8" thick aluminum flat stock with the mount end nicely rounded and smoothed. I don't like the sharp edges either. It polishes up just like the tube. I lke having the filter in the center where there is more room. I don't know how efficient any of our designs are. It's just for looks and any extra performance is a plus as far as I'm concerned.
  21. I'm still working on the bracket. I wanted the tube to extend farther across the radiator support than yours appears to.
  22. Exhaust tubing is heavy. That's why I wanted aluminum. I will admit though, I never thought of using ventilation ducting and I work at a hardware store!

Tim, I sent you a pm.
  24. Well, I thought I'd revive this old thread because I finally found some aluminum tubing to my liking. It's a 2 1/2" id, 16 ga. 4" radius 90 degree elbow. I cut the excess tubing from the end that goes into the afm duct, had that end swedged to 70mm, had the straight piece swedged on both ends, one the fit over the other end of the elbow and the other for the filter. Cost was $31.20 + ship for a place called Global Technology & Engineering. I found them on the internet.

I'd like to second that though it's still the 26th here. Happy birthday, Miles!
