Need computer help!
If your computer has USB, and most all of them do now, the easiest way I've found to transfer data from an old drive is through a USB to IDE adapter. They're not very expensive either and Owen, me, or anyone who has done it could talk you through the process.

Updated pics.. cleaned her up, installed a new air dam, new tires
I say keep the louvers, period correct, lower interior temperatures, and besides hiding stuff, they protect the hatch area and seats from the effects of sunlight. I'm glad my car has always had them. I've seen the results of nearly 30 years of exposure in cars that didn't have them.

Need Reliable Z
Plus, that 280ZX thing is somewhat of a myth anyway. I used to believe it too. True, the 280Z is heavier than a 240Z, but there's not much difference in weight between a 280Z and a 280ZX.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
Tanks can be cleaned out and resealed. I chose a used tank because my freind who has a Z repair shop had a known working one in a recently wrecked car at his shop and sold it to me for less than the cost of cleaning one out. That was nine years ago and I've not had a problem since. Check with a shop. They can tell you what's involved in the procedure.

Black Pearl mirrors
People always refer to them as BPE or ZZap mirrors, but they were much more common than that. Just like the factory alloy wheels, the were just a 260/280Z option.

alleged "turbo" on ebay
Did they even make a ZXT in 81? EDIT: Yes they did, I guess 81-83?

Black Pearl mirrors
Here's a pic of one from the brochure. They were also available on non-BPE cars. My car has the 'shade kit'.

That's not really true. What does the he mean by bad? It sounds like software to me not hardware and hence there drive is not 'bad'. I've fixed that same problem on my wife's computer w/o losing her info. If you lived closer, I bet I could fix yours. Are you using an XP cd while trying to run the system restore?

definitive answer to catalitic converter
The factory service manual states that only California cars were equipped with catalytic converters. I think you can get that sticker from Banzai Motorworks. IIRC it's the 49 states tune up and emissions decal.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
I suppose that's possible. A vacuum leak is a vacuum leak wherever it occurs..

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
No, that's not normal. Are you talking about the EGR tube? If so, and the sound is coming from that general area, it's more likely that the EGR valve itself would be suspect. If the tube was leaking, it would be an exhaust leak.

coolest looking spooiler, i think
Remember it was just my opinion. But one thing, the Japanese never did put a turbo on a 280Z from the factory.

I really think that the AFM contacts are the key. We kind of passed by that but I think it deserves further attention. If the EFI relay was bad it shouldn't run. Do you mean one of the fuel pump relays?

I'm not sure that I would want any of my Datsuns to 'look modern' since they're not. JMO~

1970 240Z Low# For Sale On Ebay
If it parallels what was done in the US, by 8/70 it would have that valve cover.

fuel/vapor tank question
TomoHawk, what you're saying is more applicable to the EFI cars, like ours, where due to the higher fuel pressure, the cannister is more of a necessity. I've seen quite a few carbed cars without a vapor tank or charcoal cannister without the problem of fumes.

My bad, I didn't notice that the car in the article is a 77.

Need to rebuild L20 in fairlady
My father, rest his soul, always told us never to keep a set of tires for more than 4 years. And he would never buy used ones. I've pretty much stuck to that all of my driving life.

Need to rebuild L20 in fairlady
Why would you even have driven it on tires that old?

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
I just don't know if I'd use a fuel filter that wasn't designed for fuel injection. Remember, they're talking about putting that Fram filter on a carbureated car. I once thought about mounting a standard EFI filter back there (the same one that's under the hood) but after I changed the tank there really wasn't a need.
