  1. Actually, I think there were more than three in the US. We had the early bumpers, the 73-74 bumpers, the 74.5-76 bumpers, and the 77-78 bumpers to my knowlege.

I put about 4 oz in mine. Yeah, some will come out of the tailpipe. My tailpipe was wet and sooty until it cleared out.
  3. My 78 starts at 10.

Yeah. You pull the hose off the brake booster and pour Seafoam down the hose then put it back on the booster. When you start the car, the vacuum pulls the Seafoam directly into the cylinders and cleans out the carbon etc. Like I said, it'll smoke like crazy for a couple of minutes then clear out.

No problem, glad you can use them. About the NGK's, I've tried just about everthing else and they seem to work the best in a Nissan L motor, 4 or 6 cyl. Adjust your valve lash as per the FSM and then try the 'through the brake booster trick' with the Seafoam. It'll smoke like crazy for a couple of minutes but it'll run much better afterwards. Your car looks to be in pretty good shape, similar to mine when I first picked it up. Mine didn't run over about 2000 rpm until I changed the gas tank however.

The only experience I have with 3.1 is a car that was in my friends shop about 4 years ago. It was a 76 with fuel injection. I don't know the details of the engine build but the injectors and AFM/throtle body etc. were not stock Z items because they had Bosch markings on them, probably from a BMW. That car pulled so hard through the gears that you'd have sworn he had a V8 in it.

In my expericence with the voltmeter in my 78, showing between 15-16 is about normal with no accesories running. They're just not that accurate. When I check it with a VOM, it shows about 14.2-14.4 which is normal. For that lifter tap, you can adjust the valve lash. I like to hear the slightest lifter sound when I adjust mine so that I know they're not too tight. Slightly loose will not cause the problems that being too tight can cause. Like one of the other members here once said, 'like children, he'd rather be able to hear what they're doing'. As far as the bogging, that will go away as things clear up. It took me a couple of tanks of gas and a 'Seafoam' treatment. Ease up on the 'garage burnouts'. I had a buddy who did that and his car caught traction and tore up a lot of stuff including the car.

No, that one won't work, at least not right. You want the one from the early 80s 6cyl BMW. 0 280 140 124 is the Bosch number. I've used those for years on both my 810 and 280Z. They seem to last longer than the oem JECS part. We touched on this a little bit in a thread a couple of years ago. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15207&highlight=280+140+124

First thing I would do is lose those Bosch Platinum spark plugs and get some NGK B6ES-11 plugs. That is after you get rid of the old gas, StaBil, etc. Too many chemicals in that gas. Run it out as I said earler or drain it. You won't be able to clean up the old gas and you're problems won't go away until its gone. Been there, done that. My car didn't run right until the old gas was gone. Be sure to use a fresh fuel filter at that point. And your wiper arm nuts are in the mail as of today (Friday).
  10. Here's a couple of scans from old Datsun Competition/Nissan Motorsports catalogs. The first one is the GX setup and the second one is the 40 mm Mikuni setup. They also had a 44 mm Mikuni setup for these engines as well as a lot of other hi performance parts.

  12. They may be 'Z Therapy' carbs but what I posted is of their origin. And Bill, there were B110's (1200), B210's, 210's (B310) in RWD, as well as F10's and 310's (N10) in FWD that use that A series engine. Not to mention the non-USA cars. That's the only reason I asked.

    I've got it.
  14. I know it must have to do with the fuel lines or linkage, but since I've dealt mostly with efi cars of late, I can't remember exactly what the 240Z setup consists of. About the GX head, the rocker arm oil passage had to be modified to fit it on anything other than a A12. I doubt if you could even find one now days anyway.
  15. One of what cars, Bill?
  16. I'm not sure what he's after but yes, those are flat top carbs but not the 240/260 type. They're the 38mm GX/SU non-smog flat tops. They were a production line option on RHD 1200's/B210's. The manifold and carbs were once available through Nissan Motorsports. Michael, do you have the GX cylinder head also?

The cannister you speak of holds vacuum for the mode door actuator on the cars with factory air conditioning. Mine wouldn't have that since it has dealer installed ac. Did you get my email?

If you'd like I could send you a couple of them. I have plenty. Both my cars (Z and 810) use the same ones but they are an easy find in the 'yards. I also have a printer on my garage computer. It's actually a printer/scanner/copier, one of the cheap HP models. I can just print out the section I'm working on and keep my manuals clean.
  19. The 72-73 fans are smaller diameter than the 74 up. The 74-78 fans have the mounting surface at the front of the fan. The 79-83 280ZX as well as the 810/910 (Maxima) have the mounting surface towards the rear of the fan which makes the fan sit farther forward. There's more space between the engine and the radiator in the ZX/810/910.

Here's a couple of pics of the windshield wiper nuts. A 14mm wrench fits them. Hope they're clear enough. The color on my car is code 510 (Sky Blue). Here's a link to member mperdue's color codes. Scroll down the the 260-260Z codes. That's actually the same shot of my car on that page. http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html

Here's a shot of the stripe that Motorsport sells. It is supposedly a reproduction of the original.

For the side markers, check all the bulbs and connections. The heater, check the ducting that connects the blower to the vents. Speedo could be a bad cable, mine was broken when I got my car. Clock, well that's just one of those things. Took me a few months of junkyard searching to find a good one. I even made a 'clock tester' from a clock plug, wire and a couple of alligator clips. Fuel guage, could be a stuck float, connections at the float, or the guage itself. I went through all of that stuff when I bought mine. You have yours running so that puts you ahead of where I was at that stage.

Plastic fan and clutch. The clutch from your metal fan won't work w/the plastic fan.
  24. I never said I wouldn't.
  25. The one with the sedan and wagon and the three couples? I have that one. I just picked up a 79 full line brochure with this 810 pic. (second picture)
