  1. No Tom, I didn't take it that way. I only reposted to be clearer.
  2. I didn't mean there wasn't a weight or heat dissipation advantage with aluminum. I just meant that the auto manufacurers would lean more towards the cost efficiency aspect.

Steve probably won't answere because he's long gone from this site. Mr. McConnell is over at 'West Coast Z Racer' which is a yahoo group site that I occaisionally browse. He's been gone from here since late '04. Couldn't take the crap here is more or less what he says.
  4. Don't know if I agree fully with that. From what I've read, they are cheaper to manufacture and I think that would play a large role in the auto makers decision to use them. The have plastic tanks. When they separate from the core, they're basically trash. At least with the Br/Cu radiator they can be put back together. My car has a/c and I live in So Cal. I use a stock radiator and have never had a cooling problem.

The one's I used were also not braided. I got them from a friend who has a Z repair shop but they were also in Nissan packaging as were the ones that go from the engine to the firewall. They are and upgrade from the originals and will supposedly last longer according to my friend. The longer I have to go before doing that job again, the happier I'll be!
  6. I watched the same game. But you know that in all sports, especially since theyv'e become the commercial venture that they've become, those things happen. Look at the 'dropped third strike' in the Angels vs. White Sox series etc. I don't condone any of that and I don't even have the interest in sport that I once had because of it. How can they call themselves winners? Because the final score was Pittsburgh 21-Seattle 10.

  8. Not that I know of. The five speed was an option. Unless you have the invoice there's no real way to tell if it came with one. Even the 5 speed hatch emblem seemed to be randomly put on the cars with 5 speeds. Mine is an original 5 speed car, according to the original owner, with the emblem and a friend of mine has an original 5 speed car w/o the emblem. He even has the invoice that shows that the five speed was included.
  9. It looks like once it hit $900 it became a war between two bidders. They can have it!
  10. Try being a Dolphins fan like me! Although they did win their last six games this year only to miss the playoffs. At least your guys were in it. If they ever had gotten Marino an running back, and a defense at the same time how many Super Bowls might they have won?
  11. The 'Stones didn't sound crisp, you could barely hear the drums, Ron Wood's guitar work was kind of sloppy, and Mick sounded like a man in his 50s trying to do what he did in his 20s. Believe me, I know that feeling. As for the game, well no matter what you thought of the offficiating, that's just part of the game. You either win becuse of that or despite it. I really doubt that if Big Ben was ruled down by the review, that the Steelers wouldn't have scored anyway. Just a short 'bus' trip. They won, they're the champs and soon no one will really remember the 'bad calls'. You really can't say that the officials cost Seattle the game, they made some their own mistakes too. What were they doing at the end of the first half? For the most part, the Steelers took advantage of their opportunities, and the Seahawks didn't.

I also seen those but the thing I would like to have is the cargo cover that mounts inside the hatch area and raises up when you open the hatch.

Did a post get deleted here? Like maybe between the first two? Let is go, y'all.

Rick, do you have the wheels that are in question in this thread? If so the center cap doesn't have a sticker. It's actually a blue tinted resin type material that fills the area around the "Z".
  16. sblake01 replied to lan240's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
You can get them for $19.55 ea. plus about $10 shipping depending upon where you live. They are the blue center ones. Type in the part number in the search box. The original part number is 40343-N3200 but it will supercede to 40343-P6700. http://www.nismoparts.com/ BTW, they are not '78 Z rims' or 'Black Pearl rims' as some have referred to them as. They are simply the US optional alloy wheel for the S30 from 74-78.

Not sure. I just looked at the 240 bumper on the microfiche and it looks to be closer in shape to the 510 bumper but I'm still not certain that ends are interchangable.
  18. sblake01 replied to 62vette's post in a topic in Open Discussions
As far as 510 vs early 260 bumpers, the shape appears to be different after looking at the Z car microfiche.

That is why I rarely do business with MSA, VB, TIR, etc. Speciatly shops, specialty prices.

So the car doesn't presently have an engine in it? Including the 'correct oil pan' with that 'freshly rebuilt 2.8 6cyl 280Z motor' will do no good unless you have the block machined for the 'correct' pickup that goes with it.
  21. OK, that rules that out. I'm basically and EFI guy so I'll defer to the others now.
  22. BTW the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. Did this begin after you changed the wires?

JPD is still here and active.
  24. The main advantage of synthetic oil, from what I've read, is longer mileage between oil changes. I've always used regular oil and done regular oil changes with no oil related problems. I'm really not certain the the extra mileage offsets the extra cost.
  25. I always use new head bolts. After breaking a used one on my 510 years ago that wasn't even at full torque yet. They stretch each time you torque them and that's why I, as well as many others, suggest new ones especially if you don't know the history of the old ones.
