single downdraft carb
I've seen maybe 4 or 5 Zs w/4bbls on them that actually preformed well and many that didn't. The main problem is getting the jetting right. Take a lot of trial and error. Out of the box, a 390 CFM Holley 4BBL, which is generally the one used on Zs, is too much carb. It was designed for engines like a larger displacement V6, 3.8 litre, 4 litre, etc. or small displacement V8s. I think people just give up on them before they get it right.

Thermostat Kit Part Number
I think the numbers I gave are for just the thermostat w/o the gasket.

CARid.com
Does you friend also live in Mexico? I ask because it appears that they charge for international shipping and their free shipping is only within the U.S. Have you tried calling them? Here's the quote from their website. It doesn't specifically mention Mexico but I would assume that they consider Mexico to be international also.

Thermostat Kit Part Number
That's a 180 degree thermostat. But I think that should read 21200-P7901. I don't know how to differentiate them by number I just know that is the number for a 180. 21200-F3160 is a 160 degree, 21200-P7901 is 180 degree, and 21200-P7906 is 190 degree.

The L28R Engine
Good call, Alan. I missed that one. The sedan motors would be front sump and the S30 motors would be rear with the dipstick in the corresponding position. I should have reacalled that having owned both.

car cover
If by "fresh out of the body shop" you mean freshly painted, keep in mind that most paint shops (at least the ones I've used) recommend no car cover for 90 days.

lambo doors
I remember seeing one at the Veterans Car Show done by this company. The actually opened and closed fairly smoothly. Not something I'd ever be interested in either, however, except maybe on a Lambo: http://www.carid.com/1971-nissan-240z-lambo-doors/vertical-door-kit-51502.html

The L28R Engine
I told you why said what I said and you (apparently) were okay with the explaination (post #29-30). I'm also telling you that somewhere in your communication with Parts Train, you've been misinformed. Why would you take that as a knock against you rather than against Parts Train? As far as a need for me to call them? I've spoken to them in the past and personally, I wouldn't use them to verify anything based on my experiences with them. Oh, and warm welcomes are my specailty. But, seriously, ease up and quit taking it personally, it's the internet.

aftermarket hupcaps?
Perhaps he meant reproduction when he said aftermarket. Ive heard of reproduction 240Z hubcaps in the past but I've never seen any examples of them.

The L28R Engine
I didn't notice this statement before. You're saying that you called Parts Train and someone threre was able to, by using the engine number, match it up to a particular vehicle type? I'm afraid the flag will have to come out on that one:

Draining Tranny Fluid Question
Yep. I just looked at the one I have and it is 13mm.

Electric Fuel Pump Shutoff
No experience with that one and this wasn't on a Z but when I put the 40 DCOE Weber on my 320 pickup, I used a switch that fed off the oil pressure for the electric fuel pump on it. Not this one but it was very similar: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Low-Pressure-Shut-Off-Switch,4774.html Oh, and after looking at that one I recall that I did use a momentary switch for starting.....

What's the best way to determine Z value
My bad. I didn't go back and read the original post again.:embarrass: But you did quote me.

Draining Tranny Fluid Question
Yeah, I've got one similar to that. I've had it for years and don't recall where I got it from but I do know one thing. I didn't pay anywhere near $28 for it. I'm not really certain the the trans plugs and the diff plugs are the same size but then it's been a while since I've worked on either. Aren't the trans fill plugs 'male'?

What's the best way to determine Z value
I'm well aware of how NADA works. My point is that not all sellers are.....
-
What's the best way to determine Z value
Ain't that the truth! I hate when I go to look at a vehicle and the seller quotes me the 'KBB' value or the 'NADA' value. In most cases you can easily point out the differences between the actual vehicle they are selling and the one they must have looked up........

If you want that title, I'm certainly not going to fight you for it!:paranoid:

Period correct wheels
Remember that the period being discussed is early-mid 70s. The last few you posted seem to be from a little later era.

New tires=empty wallet
That's really not a good look on an S30. Maybe on an 86 Corolla but not a Z.

Do you realize how afraid I am to answer that question?

Skyline like yours in Redondo Beach
My 810 wasn't too far away from the spot of that picture. I see Edgar Gonzalez's 212 Roadster and what appears to be Victor Laury's 521 P.U. as well as Leslie Brown's red Nissan Patrol 'Admiral Togo'.

the most awesom invention of all time
That's okay, it's a common mistake......but please don't cofuse it with the Gonculator.....

The L28R Engine
Yeah, that was pretty much the conclision roughly 2 1/2 prior to this thread's reawakening......

Skyline like yours in Redondo Beach
Does Matt have another one? I thought he got rid of his a few years ago.
