If you have an overly noisy lifter (rocker), adjust it. No chemical is going to quiet it down. Go through an adjust the valve lash on all of them. Keep in mind that a little noise is good. A little loose is better than too tight.

No parts will fall out of the fuel pump when you remove it. The altitude switch is only in California cars.

Nah, just plug the lines that you remove from the f.p. The lines mount low on the tank and not much fuel comes out.
  4. Garth, I knew what you were saying. And it's really no different whether the discussion involves the owner as in Burt's case or just talking about an eBay car. I you aren't a potential buyer, of what importance is your opinion of the car to the seller or anyone else?
  5. Bill, isn't that basically what bg said?

Perhaps I'd be wise to pass on this thread?

When you say 'ticking', remember that the fuel injectors 'tick' and they open and close.

Sorry, Bruce, I know that my 78 has that spot in the console where the choke would go but I've no idea if the early choke cable fits it or not.

Yeah the 280Z's do have a spot in the console for the choke cable with a blanking plate in it. Maybe just a carryover from the old design or the fact that other markets didn't get fuel injection until 1979.

Aussie V8 Supercars? I love 'em. I wish they showed more of the events here.
  11. There's an 810 2dr on eBay right now. It's in Everett, Washington. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-810-sedan-DATSUN-810-ZMOTOR-FAST_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6188QQitemZ4588963421QQrdZ1

Are these what your need pictures of?
  13. I think all ZX's had air. Don't use an alternator before 78 if you get one from a Z. It must have an internal regulator. I also seem to remember that the ZX starters are gear reduction starters so I'd stick with a ZX starter rather than use one from one of the earlier cars. There's less chance of problems if you use one from a similar car. To be safe I would only pull from a ZX. There's usually plenty of them in the junkyards at least the ones I go to. They are both a fairly simple replacememt.

I think you meant 'not pushing junk'. It started out as a thread about the wheels and went downhill from there.

Oh, no! That's the one that got picked apart here last week.

I guess in Australia you didn't have the early 74/late 74 issue that we have here.

No, not really. They don't pay me enough. It's just a little retirement job to keep me out of trouble. I do buy alot of my own supplies there, however, since I get a 25% discount. 250psi fuel injection line for $1.49 per foot. Can't beat it. I'll look into the gasoline rated clear fuel line next time I'm at work.

Also try ACE Hardware. If the particular store doesn't have it, they can order it.
