Have you heard of this racer?
That's really what I was trying to say, Panchovisa, even with the little shot at cremmmenga, I really wasn't doubting him or the old man, just that it would be hard to find records especially that far back.

Close, Bill. Gullible, but either way I knew what you meant. Got to remember who started the thread. Mr. Speedracer himself! But seriously, for one to say that they raced indy cars doesn't mean that they raced them big time. There are small scale events that no one would keep records of. I did some drag racing when I was younger and except for Pomona, the places I raced at don't even exist anymore. Irwindale Raceway (the old one that's now a Miller brewery), Lions Associated Drag Strip, Fontana Dragway, Riverside Raceway, and Ontario Motor Speedway. They're all gone!

If he's 78, he was born around 1927. That would make him 13 in 1940. How much racing could he have done in the 30s as a pre-teenager?

Hey, Tim, it's all in fun. I'm just not a fan of any of the 79 and up ZX's. That doesn't mean that you can't be.

Well, as I post my last response to this thread, I have nothing to prove to anyone. I stated my beliefs and if anyone choses to doubt them well that's their call. Chris A put it very well but basically said the same thing I have been saying. Cremmenga's long range pipe dream is his call. As to bemmerguy's comment, well, doubt all you wish if that floats your boat. Respond however you want to, it's your right only I won't be reading any of this utter foolishness beyond this point so I won't see your response.

Anyone running a P90A head? Need Help!
That make sense to me. IIRC, back when I worked with V8s, they had optional hydraulic lifters specifically for higher lift cams. You couldn't use the stock ones beyond a certain lift and I seem to remember experiencing the same problem with a small block ford I once owned. Since, AFAIK, there are no other hydraulic lifters available for the P90A other than the stock ones, solids are you only option.

But then, how do you explain the loss of compression?

This is why I speed!
38 years ago, when I was your age, the only time I drove 'on the edge' was on the strip or on the track. I was in my one and only accident at age 24, driving at a much slower rate of speed on the street than you are comtemplating. And it wasn't my fault. I got sideswiped on the freeway at 70 mph and ended up upside down. I have never had the desire to do the speeds you are talking about.

doors ??
I just assumed the doors changed when they went to the big bumpers. The late 74 260 was basically a 280 without the fuel injection so I thought that's would be when they changed the doors. I'll do some checking next time I'm in the junkyard.

Mid year on the 74 260z.

Classic Japanese Car Show Oct 1 in Long Beach
Yes it was! Datsun was well represented especially Zs, Roadsters, and 510s. I learned a lot about the history of some of the other Japanese makes.
-
no start
Are you certain of the year? Was your car converted to fuel injection? I only ask because fuel injection began in 75 with the 280Z.

Here's a couple at the recent Classic Japanese Car Show in Long Beach, Ca. The silver one has a RB26 Twin Turbo!

So what are your opinions on other Z's? Im bored.
Well, for me the question would be what do I think of the 79+ ZX's. Yeah the new one should be a 350ZX. Once they changed the body style then even the company name, my interest thinned. My opinion has been stated before on this site and I don't feel a real need to go into that again in any kind of detail. The first three sentences should give you a clue of how I feel. I would prefer not to bash and that's exactly what I'd be doing if I went into detail. I have a feeling that the can of worms has been opened.....again!

Andrew, you said the same thing I said. You were just more succinct.

Aging Man with an Aging Car -- I need help
1) The intake will draw cooler air with the duct in place 2) Zip ties though there is a plastic clip that holds that wire to the radiator hose but they usually break over time and I don't know if anyone sells them 3) Cooling will be better with the shroud in place especially with the ac on

1979 280z fusible links
It's a ZX, not a Z. I don't mind helping if I can since there are some similar components between the Z and the ZX but call the car what it is.

'74 260Z 4BBL Intake
Well, in that case I'd switch to SUs. It's tough enough to work with FI as installed by Nissan, though I've become fairly adept at it, but I wouldn't want to attempt to sort out someones home installation.

'74 260Z 4BBL Intake
Without opening up the 'flat top can of worms once again just let me say that a four barrel has no place on a Z even in place of flat tops. You have injection on your 71? 280/280zx type injection? If so, was it installed properly with all the components?

No, Dan, I wasn't referring to you. Go back and look at 28oz's post.

Umm Hi Hi
Every once in a while. When I'm trying to source and expansion valve for a car that's been out of production for 25+ yrs, or wheel bearings for a truck that's 41 years old, that 'little hot hatch' starts to look good. I even bought one, a Nissan NX1600 (don't know what they're called over there) couldn't stand it! Front wheel drive, whiney little four banger! I think that once you've had a Z you never really get it out of your system.

'74 260Z 4BBL Intake
Come on, the guy asked the question almost two years ago and he has 10 posts. 4 barrel carbs as a manditory upgrade? I'm curious to see how that statement flies here even though this thread should have been left for dead.

Chris, it looks like you have one 17 year old for and one against. But from my 55 year old point of view, and I have been upside down before at 23 yrs old, just make sure that you take all the precautions necessary. It's still not completely within your control and that's the one thing you need to keep in mind. I wouldn't do it. But I'm not so hypocritical as to say that you shouldn't. Looks like it's pretty much set in your mind. I just wish that back then someone would have explained the pros and cons of speed to me, although they really shouldn't have had to. I guess it's really your call, regardless of what others say and that's what I meant in my earlier post when I said "dream on, rock on." Wish I understood Japanese.
