  1. All Craig seemed to want was the results shown on the dyno slip. Not the whys and where fors of how a dyno works or which model is more accurate or which country had better ones. Sheesh! (You can delete this and my other post if you wish)
  2. Where is the car located? EDIT: :stupid: I guess if I had read the original post...... That's still a pretty good distance from me. About 70 miles with a couple of toll roads.
  3. Rule # 4, which I am now guilty of breaking also, should have been bolded, italicized, underlined, or highlighted in some way. I don't think it would have mattered much on this site as we seem to spend more time off topic than on. Sorry, Craig.

How are the ZX's set up? Is the lock cylinder in the rear panel instead of on the hatch? I've never really looked that closely at one!

Like I said, I don't remember much about my 70 except that I purchased it in February 1970 so it had to be built before that. I actually purchacsed it in early January but it didn't come into the dealership until late February. There was kind of a waiting list. But it did have a clear hatch window. That's about all I can remember to distinguish it from my 72. And like I said I would have been toatally clueless at age 19 about the signifigance.
  6. I hope it's not at Autozone! From personal experience, I would suggest not buying any 'hard parts' for a Z or any other early Datsun from there or any of the chain stores. You'd be much better off having your old core redone at a radiator shop. If Autozone can't get a fan clutch right (and believe me, they can't) I doubt if they could get a heater core right.
  7. And don't just change the core. When you're in there, check the three small hoses, the firewall connector/valve, the heater valve, clamps, etc. Make sure that you don't end up having to go in there again for a problem with the small stuff. Been there, done that! BTW, I was able to change my core without removing the a/c unit.

Maybe it was my 'surface rust?' comment? You've got way more than surface rust going there but I don't want to squash your enthusiasm. I just don't think you realize what you'll have to go through to eliminate what I see in those pictures. Like Carl said, money, time, and skill. And if you don't have the skill then we're talking even more money if someone with the skill does it for you. Your questions and observations would lead one to believe that you think you have a fairly easy repair job ahead of you but the pictures show different.

I don't remember much about the 240Z's I owned when I was a young pup back in the 70s. But I do remember that the first one (1970) did not have a rear window defroster. (Alan T. does HRW=heated rear window?) Anyway, my question is at approximately what VIN was the HRW added on the US market cars? It was the second one sold by the dealership. (Pomona Valley Datsun-now long gone). Evidentally I had a very early car but back then I would have been totally clueless about the signifigance of that.

Zpression. I guess that's what made me want another one after going twenty years without one. Except now it's a 280Z. It's kind of like the reverse of that episode of the 'Twilight Zone' where the airliner hits some kind of turbulence and goes back to prehistoric time. When they try to reverse the process, they are only able to return to 1939. In the 70s I had a 70 and then a 72. Now I have a 78 so I guess I didn't get all the way back.

    Surface rust?????
  14. ACE Hardware sells it. And it's only $1.99/ft. compared to the higher prices the chain auto parts stores charge. I get a 25% employee discount but I used to buy it from them before I was an employee. The ACE number is 4090437 and the manufactures code is RFKF. It is made by Anderson Barrows Corp. and is rated to 250psi. Not really mystical at all actually.

Now, if he sells 29th and later on 28th turns up, just think of the opportunity you will have missed. :devious:
  16. If I recall them in the correct order they are gluttony, sloth, envy, wrath, pride, lust, and greed. That's from the movie 'Seven' and actually they are sins rather than vices but there's alot of all of them throughout the world. (Sorry about that but remember the name of the thread :classic: )
  17. Is 'fear' a vice?
  18. FALSE! I wouldn't use anything except 250psi fuel injection hose on any fuel line on these cars unless you like replacing ruptured fuel lines. Fuel pressure on carb cars-about 4 psi, fuel pressure on EFI cars-about 40 psi. 'Normal' fuel lne is rated at 40 to 50 psi depending on where you get it.
  19. I think the sell Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Subaru parts as well as Nissan. Each seems to have its own site. I've never had any type of problem with them.

Okay, you spoke your mind, Ron spoke his. At some point is this thread going to head back in it's original direction?
  21. I have dealt with them in the past with no problems. They don't have everything but you can email them in advance to ask if a particular part is available through them. They did have the center caps for my Datsun 810 factory alloy wheels so they can get some parts that Nissan has told me are NLA.
  22. Yes, the B6ES-11 is correct for the EFI cars. The BP6ES (P is for projected tip) is for the carb cars according to everything I've ever read.
  23. I'm not sure of the origin of the flat tops that I had on my 510. That was nearly 30 years ago but I do remember that my friend and I installed them. He set them up and tuned them and I maintained them. As far as the EFI goes, I have a big enough stash of the parts I need to keep both cars going for quite a while.
  24. This is the best I could find on short notice. Note the shifter mounting arragnement.

I was 19 when I had my frist Z and 22 when I got the next one. I bought my third and present Z when I was 46! My first two Zs spent a lot of time sideways and near the redline! The third Z is a comfortable, good running car that has air conditioning and is fast enough for me at this stage of my life (54). I can drive it hard when I want to but I don't get that urge nearly as often as I did in my early 20s. There is also an added bonus: Nowdays, the only time I see the inside of a court building is when I get summonsed to jury duty!
