  1. It's located on the side of the throttle body. It's the black box secured with two mounting screws. Remove the connector and you'll see three numbers on the throttle position sensor that correspond with the three terminals. Check for continuity between terminals 29 and 30. If it's good but needs to be adjusted that is kind of a hands-on thing but it's outlined in the FSM.
  2. That would be the 57 south to Katella Ave. but then again I can't name the freeways/highways in Florida.:classic:
  3. It just seems like a lot of wasted time, effort, and money to tear an engine apart several times to accomplish what could be done with one tear down. The 'concern' should be yours, it's not my car. It was just an opinion. While I do not consider my self a "master" as you signature line states I do have a lot of experience with these cars and you do seem to be soliciting advice.
  4. IIRC, VB sells remanufactured oem units while Motorsport Sells new aftermarket units. I purchased one in 1998 for my 78 from VB and it is still problem free to this day.
  5. Are there shops that still do that?
  6. If I were you, I wouldn't be running that freshly installed head gasket too long (if at all) without some kind of cooling.

The cold start valve puts extra fuel in the system to start the car when it's cold hence the name. It is supposed to get a signal from the thermotime switch for 8 seconds when the coolant temperature is below 35C. If it runs after that all it is doing is richening the fuel mixture and therfore making acceleration 'doggy' as you put it. I can't fathom why someone would hook it to a toggle switch. It defeats part of its function. I works in conjunction with the thermotime switch, the temperature sensor, and the air regulator to sustain a high enough idle speed to allow the car to reach operating temperature. If turning the idle screw (atop the throttle body) has no effect, you have other problems. I guess you could say the cold start system is like a choke but not the cold start valve itself. I have two cars with this system. A number of sensors are used to read the engine speed, throttle valve postition, water and air temperatures and aid flow through the intake. This info is sent to the ecu which generates the fuel injection pulse. The system is complex. I could try to explain but it would be easier for you to check out the items that webdawg1 suggested as this type of thing is tough to diagnose without actually seeing your car.

Did you check your EGR valve before replacing it. Pull vacuum through the valve and see if it holds the diaphraghm up. If it does then it's still good. Use a piece of a metal coat hanger to force the carbon through the egr port. But as far as the idle thing, check between the folds in the throttle body boot for cracks. If you find cracks then you need to replace the boot. That idle problem can also be cause by a improperly adjusted BCCD. If your car is a California car, it has an altitude sensor which can also cause this problem. The FSM covers the adjustment of the BCCD and the altitude sensor if your car has one. Look into those things first before you remove the manifold. I doubt if the egr valve would cause the idle to remain high when the car is warm. People have removed them and blocked the opening in the manifold with no effect on the idle speed. I am not suggesting you do that but a plugged up egr port is really no different than a blocked off one.

I saw it at my brothers house, taped it, watched it at home, then deleted it. Like Carl said, not much of any real use in the short segment that covered the MSA show.

I'd say, based on what you wrote, go for it! 12-13 grand seems steep initially but it sounds like you won't need to spend much money after the purchase. He's throwing in the original carbs too! Does he have all the hardware? Air cleaner, linkage, balance tube, etc? If it looks as clean to you close up as it does in the pictures, and you're satisfied with the way it runs/handles I wouldn't let it slip by. After further reading the answers to the questions, it was a rotisserie restoration, it has a new dash, paint is original color apparently done right, if you have seen this car up close and can verify all of this to be true I would only have one question? Why didn't you pay him that day and drive it home? You couldn't duplicate this car for $13000!
  11. I think that was to one on History Channel 'International.' That's one the premium channels. This is on the regular History Channel which is on virtually every basic cable/sat. package.
  12. On November 7 @ 11pm ET/PT, History Channel will be airing a program entitled 'Full Throttle-1971 Datsun 240 Z.' Here's the write up:

Or you can try this picture from my 78, it's much quicker!
  14. That is true except for the assinged spots. The show is usually overbooked and eventually they place cars on the side streets. I know I'll get flack for saying this, but they shouldn't allow anything but Z's, no 510's, no Roadsters, no Silvias or Skylines, 810's etc. Allowing cars other than Z's only add to the limited space problem. Hell, I don't entertain any thoughts of winning anything, not with cars like Zrush or Too Intense, but I think I should be able to park on the main street instead of a Roadster or 510 especially since it's a 'Z' show.

Rob, your mpg just about mirrors my 78. 18.5/25 but I have an 82 Maxima 5 speed which I believe has a slightly higher 5th.
  16. In all fairnesss, my response to Lachlan's zinger above not withstanding-just don't like 350toads/fatladies, read post 31 in that same thread. It would appear that the damage was repaired. I just recall your attempt to ram that 350 down everyone's throat when you bought it but fair is fair.
  17. IF THIS ISN'T A PUT-ON, IT SHOULD BE!!! :tapemouth :tapemouth
  18. Last time I went to MSA, even with preregistration, they ended up parking me down a side street with some beat up 510s. That was 2002 and because of that I didn't go in 2003. I really don't think you should have to be there at 4am to get a good spot. That show has outgrown itself over the years and really needs to be held in some other venue that can handle such a number of cars rather than on Collins Ave. And we have to pay to be shuffled off to a side street? That being said, I'll still be there parked in front of the businesses on the street west of MSA. I'll actually be closer to the show than where they put me in 2002!

Not really. Its a Road Signature. My wife bought it for me at Big Lots for ten bucks! The detail isn't even as good as the Sun Star model (the one's who make a Black 72 Z!) and nowhere near a Kyosho which are 5 to 6 time as expensive. But it's cool because it looks kind of like a 26th or 27th 'mini-me.'

And hopefully they'll both look something like this when they're done. :classic:
  21. Speaking of 'Her Majesty,' my wife bought me a 1/18th scale 70 240Z to add to my collection the other day when she noticed it at Big Lots and didn't think I had this particular one. It's a green with tan interior 'Road Signature'. The detail is not the greatest but I immediately thought of 26 & 27 when she gave it to me. :classic: As far as the MSA show, I plan to make it to the next one.
  22. But the grilles are intechangable and I'm sure that over the years people have put 1600 grilles on 2000's and vice-versa.
  23. I remember you, Chris. Where have you been, busy with school? Hope you finally get your Z.
