    They always feel 'grabby' at first if youve been diriving with a bad booster and you replace it with a good one.

    If you have access to a vacuum gun, you can test the booster without removing it from the car.

    How about the yellow on the 77 'Zap' cars or the black on the 78 "BPE" cars. I think that list needs some work and I've not been able to find one anywhere else. In a similar post I replied that I had never seem a orange 280Z and that very day I saw a 75 in the junkyard that was orange with no signs of having been repainted. The sticker was gone and the orange was brighter where it was.

    Their names were Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, and Metaro Tekeuchi. D, A, and T. The 'son' was changed to 'sun' because 'son' means "loss" or "unfavorable occurence" in Japaneese. They are rumored to have changed the name after the typhoon in 1933.

    I don't know if this really gives the answer but quouting "Petersens Complete Book of Datsun": "In 1933 the Datsun company went through a reorganization which gave it the present name of Nissan Motors Corp., and the name Datsun was still used for the cars. Since then the light cars and trucks have almost all been called Datsuns, and the name Nissan has been applied to heavy trucks and other commercial vehicles as well as to the parent company." Maybe that's whey mosts ZX's are called Nissans~ ROFL

    The 240-260-280Z went from the 70 model year to the 78 model year. We sometimes call the earliest 240Z a 1969 although it's really a 1970 as far as the model year is concerned. The breakdown is as follows. 240Z(1970-1973), 260Z(1974), and 280Z(1975-1978). There were two versions of the 260Z. The early version had the 73 type bumpers and the late version had the larger 75 type bumpers. They were carbureated until 1975 when they added electronic fuel injection. They were two seaters until 74 when the 2+2 became available. They were four speeds until 75 when the five speed became an option. I believe the automatic trans became and option in 1971. (someone check me on that one) What I have stated here is for US spec cars. There were some differences in the other markets.

  12. The problem with the cold air intake that MSA sells is that it costs 150 bucks! If you can find a muffler shop that does mandrel bends all you have to do is figure out the dimensions, have them bend you a piece of 2 1/2" stainless steel pipe and go to the K&N site and find the appropriate air filter. They have a chart with all the sizes and confrigurations. You'll also have to have a bracket welded on the pipe to hold it in place on the radiator support.

    I don't know if the late switch will even bolt up (screw up?) in the early cars. It's held on the column by screws that go through the turn signal lever. The late cars have intermittent wipers which run through a relay. Might take some fabrication and a fair bit of electrical expertise to accomplish.

    Is that 240ZX or 240SX? As far as your poll, there are no 85 280ZXs and you don't have all the years covered. What year is 'best' would be totally subjective. 'Best' for what? That would come down to personal preference so I fail to see the point this poll serves so I won't be casting a vote. Just my opinion.

    This is also part of the point I was trying to make. I went with my nephew a couple of weeks ago to the local Chevrolet dealer to get some parts for his 65 Chevelle. Not only did he get all of his parts, some of them were actually in stock! Try that at your local Nissan dealer on parts for a 65 Datsun. I just don't think the present Nissan company is overly concerned about their history except in the area of marketing. They could have called this car anything but they chose to call it a 'Z'. The most successful car they ever built. But try to buy any early Z parts from Nissan. You don't see any 2004 510s or B210s or any Nissan with a number type name. Only the 'Z'. To me there is no connection between a 240Z and a 350Z.

    I guess comparisons between the 240Z and the 350Z are unavoidable. I really don't see the point. Might as well compare it to a Audi TT or a Porsche or whatever. Two different cars built for different reasons. You can almost say by two different companies. What does Datsun (Nissan) in the 60s and 70s really have in common with Nissan (Renault/Nissan) today? I have driven the 350Z and for what it is, it's a good (not great) car. I no way, however, does it represent an evolution of the Z. Not the S30 anyway. This, of course, is all IMHO.

    I had asked becuse I have a 78 which has a metal evaporation tank. It has never caused me any problems. Is there some advantage to removing them or is it just to eliminate a damaged one?

    My 78 is code 510 which is a blue metallic and it's not on that list. As far as 'for a fact' I couldn't say but in all my years of Z interest I don't recall seeing a 'factory orange' 280.

    Let's start with the brake lights. Yes, there is a plug that goes in the hole in the brake pedal shaft. You should be able to find one at the junkyard. The clutch thing is a puzzlement to me, however. I can't think of anyway to 'unstick' it without going in there to see why it's stuck. If you have good pedal when you depress the clutch then something is definately wrong inside. If the pressure plate and throwout bearing are both okay and it won't disengage when you depress the pedal then it's either way out of adjustment or the wrong components are installed.

    They are listed under 'Dealer Installed Accesories' in the 1978 showroom brochure as Bumper guards (front and rear). Also on that list were, Factory mag-type wheels, Air Conditioning (which would be the dealer installed ARA system), CB radio, AM/FM stereo (cassette or 8-track), rear window shade, side moldings, smuggler tonneaus (I'd like to ge ahold of one of those!), side stripes, floor mats, racing mirrors, and shift knobs. The only 'factory' options in 78 were the 5-speed, the automatic trans, and factory air (on the coupe).

    Which I never understood since all a thief would have to do is unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch and connect it to another ignition cylinder or just hot wire it from there.
