    Make sure your fuel pump relays are good before you buy a new fuel pump. (Been there . . . done that!)

    The fuel pumps on these cars are self priming. Remember there are relays under the hood for the fuel pump so your fuel pump may not necessarily be bad.

    I believe that the 75-76 had one fusible link box and an external regulator, and the 77-78 had two fusible link boxes and an internal regulator.

    Montrose is about 15 mi. north of Los Angeles.
  5. This is the underhood bracket where the fuel pump relay(s) are located.
  6. The ignition relay on a 78 is in the bracket in the kick panel on the passenger side.

    Try removing the fuel pump hose that draws gas for the tank and place it in a gas can so that it draws gas from the can. Then start the car and see if the pressure stays up and the car runs without bogging down. If it runs right then the problem is in the tank. If not then you have ruled out the tank itself and can work forward from there.

    The reason I asked about that is when I bought my 78 in 1997 it has been sitting for quite a while and the gas tank had to be replaced because of all the sediment that had developed over that period of time.
  11. The only other time I ever experienced that was on another car when the pin on the back of the cylinder part of the switch was worn or broken so as not to put the electrical part in the right positions when you turn the key.
  12. Did you replace the key cylinder part of the ignition switch or the electrical part on the back? It sounds like the electrical part could be the problem.

    I love to read through the posts on the Skyline that you Aussie and NZ guys have. It seem to be such a tightly knit group. Lots of info over here on the Z and many sites to choose from. I, however, am a DATSUN nut. Not just a Z nut. I own a 1964 320 Pickup and there is also a lot of info about for that. But, I own a 1979 810 2dr. coupe. If you're not familiar with them it's kind of like your 200B with a stretched front end and an L24E. I feel kind of all alone with that one! Although it basically has a 'Z' drivetrain, I feel it has more of a kinship with the Skylines of that era. I tend not to post anything about my 810 because you know how they are here about anything that is not a first generation Z, but I do enjoy reading about the Skyline. That having been said now I'll just fall back and become an observer again.:classic:
  14. 210's (1957-58), PL-310's, PL-311's, PL-312's (1959-1963), 410's, 411's (1964-67), 510's (1968-1973), 180B's, 200B's, 610's, 810's, 910's, and even the Stanza/Altima (U11-U13) have all been 'Bluebirds'. Where is the commonalty there?
  15. So many cars were called the 'Bluebird'. It was just a name. There was no real commonality amongst the cars that shared it. Datsun had a tendency to do that with their names. It's not like 'Mustang' or 'Camaro'. But I don't think the 'B' in B-210 stands for Bluebird because the B-210 was a 'Sunny' in Japan and other parts of the world.
  16. I originally paid $275 for mine with 66K miles. The paint was faded, it needed brakes and a gas tank, but it ran! That's my old 510 in the background seven years ago when I bought the Z

    I'd check the oil pressure sender and or guage before assuming you've a bad oil pump. If you really had '0' oil pressure you'd be hearing knocking sounds by now.

  23. Yes, he is a bit optomistic. I have a 78 280Z that is in at least as good a condition with less miles, has a radio, the antenna works, has factory alloys, runs without needing a 'warmup period' or however he put it, and if someone were to offer me 9K for it, it would be theirs! In fact, I'd drive it to them and take the bus home!

    I don't know about removing the bumpers if it's going to be a daily driver. I have been tapped from behind a couple of times in my 78. Those bumpers may be big and ugly but they can prevent body damage in a low speed bump.
  25. Well, to confuse things even more, I went to the junkyard and this is what I found: Four 280s-11/76, 1/77, 8/77 and 11/77 all had the ones mdbrandy pictured. One 260-5/74 had the same ones as mine which is 5/78. They were all coupes no 2+2s.
