It's not that at all. It's just that the wrong point was being argued.

E- maybe you should lock this thread. My initial comment had nothing to do with the logic or fairness of the law. Only that it does exist, it has existed for a long time, and Sparx was aware of it. He could have avoided the consequences and he needs to point the finger of blame in the proper direction (the mirror) and not come here looking for sympathy. That's all.....

I'm not talking about making sense. I'm talking about what the law is and had been for many years at least in California long before any mention of bankrupcy.

It's simple. In California, a vehicle must be currently registered to be driven, parked or otherwise on the public streets, roads etc. Evidence of that current registration must be visible on the vehicle. They don't just instantly tow it. It is date marked, attempts are made to notify the owner, warnings, etc. When your car is towed for this reason it's no surprise to the owner. I had it happen to me once and it was just my freakin' youthful laziness. I was 24 or 25 at the time. I learned my lesson and Sparks likely just learned his. This is pretty cut and dried and if people are going to start taking sides here, the mods need to take this thread down because there really is only one side......
  6. That's such a great location. There has to be at least a half a dozen, maybe more seafood places int Half Moon Bay that have a view of the ocean especially up toward the airport.

8 oz. of friction modifier might be a bit much. Most LSD's I have experience with call for 1-2 oz.

Not so. If you don't have anything on the outside of the car, i.e. plates with a current sticker, valid temporary sticker, etc. it can't be legally on the street. It's not up to them to look in the glovebox. Sure, she could have and she's an arse for not doing so but unless what you had in the glovebox was one of the above mentioned things, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I agree it sucks. I've been through it myself. If only you'd picked up the temporary window sticker when you were at the DMV, you'd still have your car. It isn't the city or the rent-a-cop's fault.
  9. Do you mean a mechanics lien or something along those lines? It would still have to be complete before he could legally sell it.
  10. I haven't had the need to do that since this was an active thread......
  11. You can't sell it if you don't own it...legally.
  12. That was back before the Xenon site existed.
  13. Fair enough, I was just trying to understand why it's so important to you to prove this point. I would have just moved on if it bothered me that much. Since it's the internet, however, there's no way it could have. You must be fairly young?
  14. OLD THREAD!!!! The OP hasn't even been on the site in over 4 years so he's not likely to see your advice.......

Okay, so you didn't have anything showing on the the car to indicate it was legally registered or in the process of being registered and you had it parked on the street? How does that make it the city's or the rent-a cop's fault?
  16. I'm not sure what you mean when you use the term 'flat' which you described as 'under 7 volts', or the term 'COMPLETELY flat' but the BT instructions indicate that if the battery is under 3 volts that the safety circuit will prevent it from generating any output voltage. So you're bragging about bypassing the safety circuit in order to charge a dead ('flat' as you put it) battery?? I guess that's you're call.
  17. You're missing the point. If you want to charge batteries with it, charge batteries with it. Your batteries, your vehicles, your workshop. E went a little beyond my feelings on the subject (which by the was is somewhat off topic) but I would prefer to use a charger to charge and a maintainer to maintain.
  18. Duralast Gold 24DLG? I ran that in my 78 280Z for about 5 years w/no problems.

Many of the same items that MSA sells can be purchased for less elsewhere. That's one of the reasons that I've never been as enthusiastic about them as others.
  20. A somehow preserved Black Pearl would be interesting but one that needs paint, stripes that as far as I know you can't get, and interior work, plus doesn't run well is just another 78 280Z that needs work.
  21. He would have done that if that's all it took to make it a running vehicle. After about 1-2 inactive years the tank is toast and would need to be dropped and cleaned as well as the rest of the fuel system. This falls under the heading of 'ask me how I know'.....
  22. It would have the letter 'J' following the S130 in the model description such as, HLGS130JAVBC. I don't know where you'd look for that because that's not the VIN. The VIN won't show the options since it repaces those 5 letters with the sequential number.
  23. I have a battery charger if I need charge a battery. The battery tender is simply to maintain an inactive battery. Even if you get the Junior to charge how long would it take at 3/4 of an amp?
  24. Good point. He's talking about the 'Junior' (.75A) and that may be the problem. I have the 'Plus' (1.25A) and have never been throught that with an Optima or any other batteries I've used it on.

Hell, the Corvette costs more than that. At least, the good one (ZR1) does.
