Big Shock !
That's in the vicinity of the mileage that my old 64 L320 Pickup had. Near as we could determine from what records I could find and discussions with a couple of previous owners, we determined that the truck had over 500,000 and it actually could have been 600,000mi.!

How are you #2 with only have 892 posts? And Mike has a little under 4100 so he can't be #1.

Which OIL is Best?
The viscosity would be important. Especially in the case of a rebuilt engine as Nigel mentioned in post 18. Diesel engine oil has more polymers and detergent additives allowing it to keep more combustion residue in suspension for a longer period before being changed. Seems to me that would create a sludge problem especially if your engine is rebuilt with tighter than stock tolerances. It's been debated many times but in my opinion, I'd stay away for diesel oil in a gasoline engine.

i want a z as my first car
That 'input' will differ depending on who you talk to. I owned a 1978 280Z for 12 years and a 1979 810 for 6 years. Both are EFI and both were pretty much trouble free for the entire time I owned them. I can (and have) deal with carbs or EFI. I don't think that EFI is easier or better than carbs or vice versa. Like they say, it is what it is. My take is if it has carbs, leave them on it and if it has EFI, leave that on it. Rather than doing a conversion from one to the other.

GRID: 240z Concept
Nah, doesn't work for me. It's front wheel drive.

F54 Turbo block
Everyone may not share this opinion but, personally, I wouldn't touch it.

GRID: 240z Concept
You're thinking like a car guy. If that were true they'd never sell Prius's or Focuses, etc. The general public obviously isn't looking for 'cool'. Look at some of the crap you see on the road. It's the rule rather than the exception......

Looks like he's only talking about 240Z tail lights.

280zx rb swap questions!
Might be a moot point. The OP hasn't been here for about 7 months.......

GRID: 240z Concept
Remember, they're not looking to build a car for a niche market or just for car guys. They're looking to build one with broad scope appeal. We like the design of the 240Z but there are many people who don't even know what it is or even what a Datsun is (was?). That's not really the kind of stuff auto makers would want to base a design on.

GRID: 240z Concept
That shows up here every now and then. It's just a design concept that hasn't seen and likely will not ever see the light of day.

I'm right there with you on that one, Grant (and Dennis)...........

240z starts but dies as soon key released
That is a possibility also since, as I recall, that fusible link completes the 'run' circuit. You must be 'Reverend' on that site. But how does a guy from Finland end up on a Connecticut web site? I guess the same way a guy from San Bernardino, California would......

Charcol Canister
You mean this one?:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=322215#post322215 IIRC, I've reposted your url's before, webdawg1, you must not have the "Automatically parse links in text" feature turned on in your user cp. Notice how it shows up when I quote you but not in your original post?

What would you expect? The reviews are on Eastwoods site.......

Are Sport mirrors from old Mustang II?
If you've got the plastic mirrors that adjust by moving the housing, then you don't have the ones that esprist is referring to. Just the cheap aftermarket/dealer installed ones that were put on so many 280Zs (and other cars) 'back in the day'. My car had them. Furthemore, I doubt that would be any connection between the 'real' Datsun sport mirrors and ones used on the Mustang II. The designs are'nt really that close especially when you consider the cable adjustment on the Ford mirror.

Eastwood Flaring Tool - Do you have it?
I have a Craftsman that I've had for years. Does what it's supposed to do and it's cost was way less.......

How come my battery frame doesn't look like yall's?
Most of the time when I hear it, it's shortened to all y'all. Maybe that's the west coast version......

Engine timing
The manual says 24 degrees BTDC@700 RPM for the 82-83 Turbo and 20 degrees BTDC@650 RPM for the 81 Turbo.

76 280z starts but dies after 30 seconds
Before you do any of that, check your fuel pressure. Place a guage between the fuel filter and the fuel rail. If the pressure is normal at first and then drops gradually until the engine dies. That will indicate sediment/crud in the fuel system caused by sitting as I stated earlier. If not, with that ruled out, we can move on to the next step. Or, you could just keep throwing parts at it......

76 280z starts but dies after 30 seconds
No problem. 1st gen Supras were just a little more advanced than 280Zs.

76 280z starts but dies after 30 seconds
This might come in handy if you don't already have or have access to a Factory Service Manual: http://www.xenons30.com/files/FSM/76_datsun_280z.zip

76 280z starts but dies after 30 seconds
No MAF sensor in a 280z. Check your fuel pressure. If the car has sat for a long period of time there will be sediment in the fuel system which prevents the system from achieving/maintining the proper pressure to run correctly.
