  1. what would cause my 76 280z to overheat hile idleing? The radiator overflow is filled to the fill line and the radiator hoses are not clogged, but still if i leave the car at idle it will start to heat up i just push on the gas while idle to pull that heat off the motor and eventually the temp goes down. Thanks

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=2429937703 a 76 280z as seen by the title and the front bumper. But the seller has a 77/78 rear bumper on the car (bumper guards) Do the 77/78 bumpers bolt on to the 76 chassis, and if so will the front bumper work? Im trying to find a way I can replace the bumper guards for my 76 but they are hard to find and expensive.

  8. how much for the wheels? i can pick them up, im in houston and a pic please
  9. peterc- did you use the 240 bumpers with the 280 shocks? From what i have read you have to remove the bumper shocks to get the 240z bumper to fit, can you post some pics? I have a 76z and I want to take off those massive bumpers thanks
  10. ive seen some conversion kit that converts the 4bolt to a 5bolt but it was on ebay a while back, MSA might have something (not sure), I think the adapter kit went for somewhere around 200 on ebay

seems like a great idea, but i have a few suggestions: 1) have a form for users to post either outside the specific sections or as a fix/contribution 2) seperate by year, or by general specs ie 240z, 260z, early 280z late 280z ... thats about all for now, but i can help with coding if you need it
  12. first the connector on the efi was loose and then tightened, but now i dont know, i think the starter or the coil might be bad because sometimes it takes me a few turns of the key to get the engine to crank (any noise) and then it starts i think that might be some of the problem
  13. it shuts off as if i turned off the key, im going to mess around with it some more with ZBabe's suggesstions thanks
  14. when im driving around sometimes the car will just turn off, and it wont start back up. I took it to my mechanic and the connector on the computer for my 76 280z was loose and then the car started right back up. after 1 day of driving around the car has the "emergency brake" indicator light always on and the car continues to turn off at certain times, both in stop and go and on the freeway. But this time the car will start right back up again and i can continue driving until it shuts itself off. Anyone had this before? Thanks

I get up in the morning and my 76 280z starts right up, if I let it idle too long it will stall out. I will drive it for a little bit (under 5 minutes) and turn it off and when I try to start it up it wont start. The few times it does start it will idle at 500 rpm and with any pressure on the gas peddle lots of grey smoke comes puring out the back. But, if i let it sit for a while (7 hours today and yesterday) it will start up again no problem. Any one seen anything like this?

  19. just keep in mind that you have to have that splice (a green wire for me) in with the power connector for the blower motor, that spliced wire connects to the air compressor and turns it on. my z hasn't felt better inside since i got it! (but then again i have only had it for 6 months now)
  20. Went and got my new blower motor today from a junkyard nearby. Pulled it from a 88 civic crx, cost me $25. Took it home and got to work. The easiest way to gain access to your blower motor is to remove the glovebox and the lower trim piece of the passenger side. The blower motor is fastened by 3 screws and the housing is fastened by 4 10mm hex/phillips screws, 2 are at the front of the cabin and 2 are above (they are pretty easy to find). The best way to change out the blower is to drop the housing and all, then remove the motor. AS it so happens the squirrel fan from the crx was a little too big for the housing, nothing a jig saw wouldn't fix quick. I had to take off a few mm around the hole. The fan fit in and and bolts were perfect. Even the power connector to the new motor was the same as the Datsun one! After putting everything back together (make sure the blower housing still fits up to the vents) and testing the system I was impressed. The Honda blower fan was much more powerful than the Datsun one. With the driver seat all the way back I could actually feel the air hitting me, before it was about 8 inches shy of that mark. So now I can say I have a A/C system that runs powerful, quiet, and cold!
  21. just got my system retrofitted today, its blows pretty cold but its is using a Sand (?) compressor, its is the one found in volvos, mazdas and some other cars. the blower fan in the z is absolute crap and im going on a hunt tomorrow for a 88 civic fan. i'll get back when my project is done
  22. i've got a 76 280 with an after market compressor that im getting refilled this week. I just got a new fitting and I'm re-routing the hose and then getting the system retrofitted with the new r134 (not sure on the number) freon. I'm going to have it completed by the end of the week and i can get back to you on how cold, how long it takes to cool the cabin and what type of compressor it is. I like in houston, tx and its not much cooler down here, especially with the black interior...
  23. in texas there is a grandfather clause that says if your car is over 25 years old you only have to have a safety check for your inspection. They check the horn, lights, blinkers, wipers, and some other small stuff. It normally costs $12.50.
  24. I was wondering how hard it would be and what I would need to add turbo to my 280z. Do i just need new headers and manifold? And has anyone done this or know of a website that offers a guide of some sort? Thanks
