I'm going to be swapping a running engine into my 76 280z tomorrow and was wondering if there were any tips from you guys and also how long it should take for someone with the right tools and a good deal of know how. Thanks and with me luck with getting my z running again

its got some slight rust on the driver floor pan and some bubbles (not very many) on the quarters, but the car has been problamatic from the start, i think im better off using it as a parts car and an interior stripper

as i was cruising on the freeway last night i heard a pop and smoke started coming out in all directions. after pulling over to a nearby parking lot and letting the smoke stop i had a tow truck take my car to my z mechanic. after a quick diagnosis, i blew a hole in the engine. so in order to get back on the road i need a new block. having dropped too much money into this car over the short year and 1 month that i have had it, i am going to retire this car to parts. a new head gasket, transmission seal, throw out bearing, and pressure plate, fuel pump, wiring harness, battery, starter, alternator and mayn other things have seen my z car recently. as a poor high school student i don't know what to do. its not worth the money (that i don't have) to fix a problamatic car so i guess im looking for another z car that is cheap, a daily driver, and has very little rust (that was the only good things about that z) but if anyone out there wants to help let me know, i need all that i can get.

the site seems to be unaviable, can i get some pictures and some more details on the car please? Thanks
  9. how is the rust on the car? are there any problems that may com ein the future that you can already see starting? and is $2500 still what you're looking for?
  10. I need to get a new exhaust system as my pipes decided to rust through over the years. I'm on a pretty tight budget and am looking for something that will help out my z. I have a 76 280z with the cat converter. I can get a Nissan exhaust system for $160 but MSA has the "turbo" system for $125 and some guy has been selling Monza exhaust systems on ebay for $137. I only need the pipes past the cat converter and the muffler. Is there anywhere I can find some decent stuff cheaper? And of those and others what do you suggest for a poor kid trying to get his z quiet

ive got a set of triple webers and intake manifold ready to bolt in (might need some tuning, they have been sitting for 15 years or so), how much are you looking to spend?
  13. i am looking to see what a set of triple webers with intake manifold would sell for and a NOS turbo blower would sell for. A friend of mine has both and wants to see what he can get for them before he decides to sell.

I need to get new weather stripping for my Z and I want to know the best options. There is that guy on ebay you sells the kit for $185, but that seems pretty cheap for good weather stripping. Anyone used that before or have a better way of going at it?

this problem comes in and out but I keep losing constant current through my car. The volt gauge shows zero with the car in off or the accessories position and my stereo wont turn on without the car on. Anybody have some suggestions? I have recently changed the alternator (2 weeks ago) so I don't think that is the problem. Thanks

as far as that manga mod you want to do you can do it on any model z 70-78 but only the 240z is going to have the slim bumpers. I have a 76 280z and its pretty nice, i use it as a daily driver and havent seen any problems from that, but with the 280z you get fuel injection which is a better delivery system than through carbs. The 5 speed tranny was available in 77 (i think as an option) and 78 but no earlier years. But it is also a fairly easy swap. Exhaust upgrades and other engine mods are pretty standare across all zs, just have to check to see what kind of header ports you have. Wheels are standard across all zs, 4x4 bolt pattern, kind of hard to find, but you can get an adapter to fit honday wheels but i think they need the 280z axles (there's another reason to get the 280z) Hope this helps, im still new to the Z scene and Im pulling this out of memory from what I have read, but im sure someone else will check my words
  19. not really pictures of me, just what i do when my car isn't broken
  20. blew out the head gasket, thats the first problem, after thats fixed then we'll see if the car has any more problems
  21. from what happened I'm pretty sure i flooded the engine of my z today, or badly damaged it. So here marks the end of a good thing, my 76 280z that I have only had for 11 months. Water came rushing in through the driver side floor and I knew i was in trouble and then it died and I still had to get it up my driveway and the only way was to crank the starter with the car in 1st gear and the clutch out, smoke was everywhere. So really what I'm wondering is if there is something I can do with a flooded z (at least thats what I think it is, I'm going to make sure when this damn rain stops). Or am I better off stripping the parts and trying to find another z? all i can really say is *UCK

this problem seems to come and go but my battery isn't keeping a constant current running through the car, when I have the car off and the key off, the battery gauge shows no current, the car will start up and the gauge will work but nothing will work if the car isn't on, anyone seen something like this before? btw the battery and alternator have been replaced recently

what you can do to increase the mpg will also decrease your acceleration, on the driver side of the engine there is a little black box off the FI block a few inches from the front of the motor, pop of the cap and you will see 3 metal strips \|| kind of like that, the middle one moves as you press the accelerator and it rests on the metal strip on the right, the closer the left strip is to the moving one (make sure they don't touch) the faster you will accelerate. The further (make sure the moving piece can still get there) the better mpg you will get. Set it where ever you like. Play around with it and then test your results.

im down here in houston and use my z as a daily driver, it has its occassional problems but you quickly get the hang of what i call 30 second fixes, and the problems that are more than that are rare if you find a car in decent shape, just take it to a mechanic that knows his zs to get checked over and make sure ypu're not getting ripped off
