Found a 240z in junkyard, what to grab off?
Are the carbs on the 240z reasonably valuable, hoping that they're still on there (they probably aren't)

The engine bay inspection light is worth money? Is a 280z version worth money? I still have mine and i don't plan to be using it

Found a 240z in junkyard, what to grab off?
I had a friend tip me off that he found a 240z in the junkyard with bumpers still on it. He saw 240z badges so I know it's the skinny bumpers. I plan to grab the bumpers, maybe the blinkers and tail light panels and the steering wheel. What else should I get? I have a 280z, wondering if I should get the hood or any other parts, I don't need much for my car as it's pretty complete.

Just got a 280z for free
Well it's been a long time since i've updated. I did get it running but unfortunately I think we are parting ways. Employment is a bit shakey and I'd like to stack as much cash so I am posting it up for sale. I do love these cars but sadly it doesn't work at this point in life.

yeah there's some front end damage, but nothing toooo crazy. I'm going to focus on getting it running first, that's my #1 priority. I'll go from there.

What do you think about the floor boards?

Just got a 280z for free
Got some more pics taken this weekend and a tad bit more work done. Pulled valve cover and it had oil on camshaft from turning it over. Still poured directly on the cam but didn't turn it over this time. Other than that I got the flat tires fixed and pulled the front bumper mounts off.

Definately interesting discussion. I've really don't want to give up on this car. I printed a bunch of manuals out last night and tried to get in contact with the previous owner. If I can get the engine working, I'm definately in on this car. Right now it's the only thing going for it but I've seen worse cars! I won't have an opportunity to look at it until the weekend but I'll update you guys then! Out of curiosity what parts are expensive to find for these cars?

Actually can't find a picture, thought it was a universal thing. It's smaller turnoffs on gravel roads or highways. Like turnoffs to fields. Basically the ditch comes up to meet the level of the road. So, say you're going way too fast and end up in the ditch. if you hit an approach at speed you're going to have a bad day. Pic related kind of, hard to make out with the grass. Interior is completely shot on the car however. The floor pans are almost completely rusted out, seats are busted, dash is ruined, etc.

front bumper was just sitting on the mounts and seems like there's some damage to the steel unerneath the rad. didn't get it on a lift to see if there's any frame damage, I hope to talk to the PO tonight and find the story of this car.

Yeah I'll do that. Since it already turned over, do i need to worry about getting ATF in the cylinders?

Good read! So i probably shouldn't have cranked the engine over. Well... that ship has definately sailed. I'm not even sure if this car is worth saving, I might just sell it for parts but I really don't want to!

Just got a 280z for free
Just got a 280z for free as the title states. Man, it's hammered!! Quite a bit of rust on the floorboards but the frame seems in decent shape. According to what I could find out it was last running in '06 when it hit an approach so i'll have to take alook but initially crawiling under doesn't seem that bad. Also it seems to have had the key snapped off in the ignition and subsequently hotwired. Why they decided to hotwire i'm not sure because I was able to just use a screwdriver to turn the ignition as the key blade was still in it haha! The starter has wired on it and I was able to turn it over by connecting those two so the engine is free. I can't figure out their wiring situation so I wasn't able to turn the fuel pump on or get power to the coil but I plan to contact him tonight and try to figure it out. Does anyone have experience with steering column wire? There's three wires hanging down, a Red/white, a Red/yellow, and a Black. Black i assume is ground and is called out in pictures. No fuses seem blown. There are two red wires farther back but those run directly to the starter so I know what those are for. Also when turning it over I was hearing a "squeaking/squealing". I disconnected the acc. belt but it still persisted. Is that a bad main bearing? If it got parked because of hitting an approach wouldn't that mean it ran when it was parked? It hasn't run in 10 years so maybe the main bearings are super duper dry from sitting? I cranked it over for quite a bit trying to build some oil pressure but kept hearing the squeak. I could do a compresion test but that won't tell me anything about the mains. Pics are the car itself and the hotwire job. Would this be better moved to the electrical forum?
